When did you start watching wrestling and was there a moment that got you hooked?

I first found out about wrestling when a friend brought to school a Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake and Jake “The Snake” Roberts figure. I asked what they were, he told me and I asked my folks to get me a video. My first tape was SummerSlam ’88. And seeing the video leading up to the Mega Powers vs Mega Bucks hooked me instantly. Macho Man’s voice, Hulks overall look and charisma, DiBiase being a sneak, Andre this mountain of a human…it was all there in one place. That was the very first moment I fell in love with it.

What made you decide to start training to be a wrestler and where did you start?

I guess it was through watching it and going to the gym that made me want to get involved somehow. I saw ads in magazines for the Hammerlock Training school, but could never afford to travel to them. Then I saw an ad for BCW in East Kilbride. I made enquiries then went down from Aberdeenshire for training in August 2002. I met the trainer, joined up with other trainees such as Kid Fite, Red Lightning and Drew Galloway and the training went from there. Had my first in ring match, an 8-man tag, in Nottingham in Sept 2002. My brother Ross was one of my partners, Jamie Impact. We went on to form a team, in BCW, CSF, WILD and W3L. Where we teamed for the better part of 7 years.

Who are your biggest influences in professional wrestling?

I’ve always been a fan of technical wrestling so guys like Mr Perfect (who I patterned my ring name Stu Pendous after), Bret Hart and Macho Man Randy Savage were the ones I loved to watch. Guys who could tell a fast paced story and draw the crowd in with their selling. It was all so believable and with Hart being the same height as me, I figured his style would be something I could realistically achieve. I’ve never been confident with high flying, preferring to use explosive suplexes and holds to wear someone down, with the odd high impact move from the ropes.

Do you have any favourite matches or opponents that you have worked with?

My very first singles match was with Carl Conroy in Braintree, Essex in 2003. That was massive for me, and the crowd gave me a great reaction and responded well to what I was doing. So that spurred me on to keep going.

I’ve also shared the ring with Drew Galloway (who has never pinned me in singles competition!) and those matches were always great.

My favourite opponent would have to be my own brother, Jamie Impact. The fact we are legit brothers who followed wrestling since we were kids meant we knew each other inside out. Whilst I wouldn’t exactly compare our talents to Owen and Bret Hart, we had the same chemistry they did. And we could go full on without getting angry if we went too stiff at times or messed up. We had some great matches, with wins fairly evenly split.

And finally, who would be your dream opponent, past or present?

Bret Hart, in his 1997 heel phase. He was amazing at this time. His character, performances, promos…everything was “executed excellently”. I’d love to be the fiery babyface against THAT Hitman.
