Hello, and welcome to this week’s edition of Adam’s Top 10. This week I will be taking a look at my top 10 favourite rivalries from around Scotland.
10. “Tenacious” Johnny Lions vs “The Revolutionary” Damien
In one of the most heated rivalries going in WrestleZone, former tag team partners have been going at it for the past few months with Johnny Lions and Damien on a warpath. Ever since Summerhill Showdown when Johnny Lions cost Damien his shot at the Undisputed championship, the two have been fighting across the North-East of Scotland. Damien has gotten some assistance in the form of fellow Sterling Oil members William Sterling and Alan Sterling as of late, causing Lions to call in the WrestleZone Tag Team champions Kaden Garrick and Mr P. An all out war has broken out with these six men.
9. Chris Renfrew vs Grado
Although it may not have lasted too long, I quite enjoyed this rivalry. Following Grado finally the ICW World Heavyweight title back at Fear and Loathing VIII, we got to see the build towards Renfrew becoming champion. To be fair, Chris shouldn’t have even been in this position considering it was originally Dickie Divers that won the 2015 Square Go. Renfrew won the briefcase from his former NAK brother and kept teasing a cash in until he announced it for this year’s Square Go. Overall, a fantastic rivalry that ended with a great match that you can watch on ICW’s OnDemand service or their YouTube channel.
8. Crusher Craib vs Jack Jester
When the first match between these two was announced, I knew it would be a collision for the ages. It certainly lived up to the hype. One of the biggest faces in WrestleZone against one of the biggest faces in ICW was sure to be good. After having three matches against each other, I would gladly watch another. I could watch them fighting all day. My favourite match of their’s was definitely from Aberdeen Anarchy 2014. With the addition of a steel chair and Jester using WrestleZone’s Thea Mainprize as a distraction just pulled it all together. I think Crusher would make a great in ICW to fight Jester again.
7. “The King of Catch” Aspen Faith vs “The Best Young Wrestler in the World” Lewis Girvan
Every match between these two has been fantastic. If you add Sammii Jayne and Debbie Sharpe to the mix then that’s a whole different story. Imagine Daniel Bryan vs Zack Sabre Jr, that’s how good the technical wrestling is. Before I seen these two face each other, I wasn’t a big fan of that style of wrestling but now I can’t get enough of it. These two have great talents that have a hell of a future. With both in their early 20s, the future of Scottish wrestling is in good hands.
6. Drew Galloway vs Jack Jester
Before coming together as part of The Black Label, these two had a great rivalry over the ICW World Heavyweight title. Galloway returned to the company after being released from WWE and looked to save Jester from a Square Go cash-in at the hands of Chris Renfrew, before tossing him off the stage onto some tables. They went on to main event Fear and Loathing VII before joining forces with Red Lightning just one year later to form The Black Label. It’s just a matter of time before the ICW World Title comes to The Black Label.
5. Shawn Johnson vs Bryan Tucker
Number 5 is a battle between former tag team partners. Although they haven’t been fueding for long, it’s already shown to be quite personal. Following Shawn turning on Bryan last November, Tucker decided to leave professional wrestling behind him. That was until March’s Regal Rumble when Bryan emerged through the crowd to prevent Shawn, now a member of Sterling Oil, from winning the Rumble match. Security have been on alert ever since incase he tries to get involved again, which he did in Westhill. A very personal rivalry has came about between the former Granite City Hotshots.
4. The New Age Kliq (Chris Renfrew and “The Oddity” BT Gunn) vs The Black Label (Wolfgang, “The War Boy” Stevie Boy and Kay Lee Ray)
One of the greatest rivalries from recent memory is between former New Age Kliq partners. Following Chris Renfrew being forced to defend his ICW World title in February against BT Gunn, Stevie Boy and Wolfgang in a TLC match, Renfrew and Gunn were attacked by Stevie, Wolfgang and Ray, who joined The Black Label. This caused a two on three rivalry, leading to a tag team match at BarraMania II. The rivalry between the five will go down as one of the best in history.
3. Crusher Craib vs “The Revolutionary” Damien
Both men come back to this list for a second time in my favourite rivalry in WrestleZone history. Damien cost Craib his Undisputed title at the Regal Rumble 2015, causing the Creator of Carnage to go on a rampage. He destroyed everything in his path from Aspen Faith to Big Damo to poor Jeeves Winchester. Damien evaded the monster at every cost, until they met at last year’s Aberdeen Anarchy in the first ever Revolution Rules match. Chairs, kendo sticks, trash cans, everything was used. Craib came out victorious but ended up heading to hospital with a concussion. I’d love to see these two go at it once again.
2. Mark Dallas vs Red Lightning
In recent months, ICW Chairman Mark Dallas and Majority Owner Red Lightning have both declared they should be in charge of the promotion. People like Polo Promotions, Grado and Noam Dar sided with Dallas while Lightning had help from The Black Label, The New Age Kliq and The 55. The NAK eventually sided with Mark before members turned on other members (see number 4). Both entered this year’s Square Go but neither came out with the briefcase. Red Lightning has been in charge as of late but Dallas has sent in Kenny Williams as the General Bollocks. Anything can happen with those two in charge.
1. The New Age Kliq (Chris Renfrew, Wolfgang and “The Oddity” BT Gunn) vs Legion (“The Deity of Deviance” Mikey Whiplash, “The Anti-Hero” Tommy End and Michael Dante)
When you think of gang warfare, this certainly comes to mind. The NAK and Legion had one of the most violent rivalries in ICW history. Kendo stick lashes, people being cost title matches, distractions. This rivalry had it all. The conclusion was a Steel Cage at November’s Fear and Loathing VIII. That was one of the greatest matches in history and was even voted the Match of the Year in the Bammy Awards. I wouldn’t mind seeing another rivalry between these guys.
So ends another edition of the Top 10. Apologies that they’re all from WZ and ICW but I feel they’re the best. Next week, I’ll take a look at my Top 10 moments from Aberdeen Anarchy, WrestleZone’s biggest show of the year.
