Friday 30 th September would be the tenth year in a row W3L has hosted its annual ‘Wrestlution’ event, which is the biggest show of W3L’s year and is always well-received. This year’s Wrestlution took place at The Brunton in Musselburgh, a tremendous venue that would be hosting Wrestlution for the third year in a row.

For me personally, this would be my fourth Wrestlution, with me competing in the annual ‘Golden Ticket Ladder Match’ two years in a row before myself and Rory Steel were unsuccessful in our conquest to defeat The Coffey Brothers for the W3L Tag Team titles. This year would see me challenge The Coffey Brothers for the tag titles again, but with ‘Tenacious’ Johnny Lions as my tag team partner.

Lions is a man I have known since I started training in 2009. I can recall him being on the receiving end of a wicked clothesline from former WWE wrestler Rory McAllister at SWE Hell For Lycra VI and being the opponent of a debuting Ian Ambrose in 2010. He has also been an opponent of former WWE superstars such as Hardcore Holly and X-Pac and recent signee Noam Dar. Ever since my 2010 debut, we have been opponents and occasional tag team partners and Wrestlution X would see us teaming up once again.

Wrestling in front of a sold out Musselburgh crowd was a great experience and I feel like I was on point opening the show with my pre-match promo, explaining how me and Lions were two men of an English heritage looking to make the thriving Scottish wrestling scene their own. Some assistance from Joe E Legend helped us beat The Coffey Brothers for the titles. Many thanks Mister Legend.

The rest of the bill saw Sara defeat Leah Owens to become the new W3L Women’s Champion, Taylor Bryden win the Golden Ticket (which gives him the opportunity to have a match for any W3L Championship at any opportunity he deems fit), Mike Musso defeating Nathan Reynolds and Joe Coffey defeating Joe E Legend to become the new W3L Champion, where the match originally ended in a double count-out, but MC Stevie The Wizard enforced his referee’s license and restarted the match after referee Thomas Kearins was knocked out during proceedings.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding this incident. Joe E Legend was seething at Stevie The Wizard for interfering in the match and expected to remain W3L Champion after the initial double count-out decision. Due to Wizard’s interference, Legend was seeking legal advice and myself and Lions managed to source him a very ruthless and reputable UK-based attorney that could potentially rinse The World Wide Wrestling League of every penny they had.

The next day proved to be eventful, with W3L management being locked in negotiations with the attorney we provided Legend. The end result was W3L management reversing Stevie The Wizard’s decision of declaring Joe Coffey the new W3L Champion and declaring the main event contest to be a draw, meaning that Joe E Legend was still the W3L Champion. You can view a snippet of these events at this YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/7vBZM-Xsra8.

Later on in the day was W3L’s live event in Dunfermline, which would essentially be a ‘Wrestlution Revenge’ show, which involved myself and Johnny Lions making our first W3L Tag Team title defence against the duo of Tapaqu and Dave Jeremi. We were subject to some Tapaqu shenanigans, as well as the power of Jeremi, but the end result was myself and Lions retaining our titles. Sadly, the event would also include Joe E Legend losing the W3L Championship to Nathan Reynolds in a triple threat match that also featured Mike Musso (which can be viewed at www.youtube.com/an4QlBHCfvQ).

All in all, the events were well attended and well-received. The Brunton is always a great venue to wrestle in and Dunfermline has witnessed many W3L shows over the years. Next week’s article will see me take a step back from covering live events (the W3L and SSW shows that have just passed will be covered in due course though), as I detail my experiences at a weekend training camp hosted by British wrestling veterans Johnny Moss and Marty Jones. Until then though, that is the life of Smith. Good day.
