WrestleZone’s current tag team rivalry sees The Rejected as the champions with former champs The Sterling Brothers continuing to chase the gold, a rivalry that’s been going on since January. Aside from those two teams, the only other real team on the roster is Los Cystos unless you include other duos from Sterling Oil. So, who else could join the tag team division in The Granite City?
Honourable mentions;
The New Age Kliq (Chris Renfrew & BT Gunn)
Johnny Moss & Liam Slater
SuperCharged (Scotty Riccio & Spike Tierney)
The South-Coast Connection (Ashley Dunn & Kelly Sixx)
10. Polo Promotions (Jackie Polo & Mark Coffey)
Kicking off the list is quite possibly the most popular tandem in Scottish wrestling, Polo Promotions. Jackie Polo hasn’t been seen in a WrestleZone ring since 2014 while Mark Coffey hasn’t came this far north in his career. The two have been tearing it up all over the UK and winning every set of tag gold they can, whether it be from ICW, PWE or Target Wrestling. I see no problem as to why they can’t add the WrestleZone Tag Team Titles to their trophy cabinet.
9. Fight Club (Kid Fite & Liam Thomson)
With Kid Fite recently returning to WrestleZone this past May, it makes this one more likely to happen. Both Fite and Liam Thomson are two of the UK’s best wrestlers and cause destruction to their opponents, no matter who it is. Liam is one of the most underrated talents in Scotland. After appearing for WrestleZone back in 2012, could we see Fight Club coming to the north-east?
8. Pure Gangster (Prince Asad, Saqib Ali & Donnie T)
You know what would be pure gangster? If these three came to WrestleZone. All three graduates of the PBW Academy so that makes them have a stronger bond since they’ll be familiar with each other’s work. Since coming to ICW, Prince Asad, Saqib Ali and Donnie T have been nothing but gold. I could imagine them getting quite the reaction from the WrestleZone fans with their comedic approach.
7. The Scum Bucks (Ian Ambrose & JD Wilde)
Perhaps the most over duo in SWE, The Scum Bucks have come together to form sort of a veteran and student pairing with Ambrose being around since 2010 and Wilde only debuting in 2015. Along with Eddie Devine, the pair have solidified their status as the two most loved members of the SWE roster. But that’s the problem. Currently, they only wrestle as a team for SWE and UPW. They need to get their work shown in more companies. Ambrose has appeared for SWE previously in 2014 as a singles wrestler, so how about he comes back alongside JD?
6. Michael Chase & Theo Doros
Michael Chase and Theo Doros have really gelled as a team since forming and competing for the likes of UPW and ICW. Chase and Doros are two fantastic singles wrestlers and sometimes that makes it harder for people to be a team. Chase and Doros through that theory out the window with their incredible ability together. These two vs The Rejected or The Sterling Brothers? Sign me up!
5. The Headbanders (Jackie Grady & Rob Mills)
The Headbanders are two men that I don’t know too much about but I’ve seen enough to enjoy their work. Jackie Grady and Rob Mills currently work extensively for Reckless Intent Wrestling, with a recent trip to Discovery Wrestling earlier this year. Sometimes joined by WWE Mae Young Classic entrant Ayesha Raymond, Jackie and Rob could certainly use the Londoner to their advantage in matches if the likes of Sammii Jayne or Richard R. Russell happened to get involved.
4. The Purge (Stevie James & Krobar)
GPWA’s premier tag team team are two dangerous individuals. Stevie James and Krobar haven’t called themselves The Purge just for the sake of having a name, it’s because they don’t end their matches until they’ve done a hefty amount of damage to their opponents. Ruthless and calculated in their assaults, I think they could do wonders up north. Mixing it up with talent like Aspen Faith, Shawn Johnson and Scotty Swift would be fantastic to see. These two are certainly the future of tag team wrestling in Scotland.
3. The Upstarts (Logan Smith & Owen Jakks)
Two faces that some people may not be too familiar with. The Upstarts are two graduates of the PBW Academy and have been proving their worth in companies like Rock N Wrestle. Owen Jakks made his WrestleZone debut earlier this year at Union Square, and it looks as if Chris McDonald and the rest of management are keen to use the talents created at PBW with Aaron Echo, Krieger, Prince Asad and Lucy Cole all making their debuts over the past 12 months. Owen and Logan may not have the experience that other teams on this list do, but if they keep going the way they’re going then they’ll be there in no time. Also, a match with them against The Rejected would be quite good.
2. The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith & Lewis Girvan)
I’m never going to stop mentioning this until it happens. Separatley, Aspen and Lewis are two of the most technically gifted athletes in the country so of course they’re going to be a tremendous team. Forming in early 2016 after several back and forth battles against each other, The Kings of Catch have been proving why they’re called just that with a win over Polo Promotions earlier this year showing they can go the full distance. Aspen is currently enjoying a reign as Tri-Counties Champion, while Lewis hasn’t been seen in WrestleZone since Aberdeen Anarchy 2016. If they do end up bringing their talents as a team to Aberdeen, the fans will be in for a treat.
1. Lou King Sharp & Krieger
The team of Your Mother’s Favourite Wrestler and Scudmaster Sexy have been sexy dancing their way through the tag teams over in PBW to hold on to their PBW Tag Team Championships. After making his debut in January 2015, Lou King Sharp has made frequent appearances in the north-east while Krieger made his WrestleZone debut last month at Proving Grounds. The duo would make for an exciting addition to the WrestleZone tag team roster, perhaps using their dance moves to distract other teams to add the WrestleZone Tag Team Titles to their collection. A team that could really get on the fans’ nerves would make for great challengers for The Rejected, should they retain at Battle of the Nations of course.
All ten of these teams would make a worthy addition to the WrestleZone tag team division. What teams would you like to see in WrestleZone?
