Damien delighted fans earlier this month at Battle of the Nations, superkicking Undisputed Champion Shawn Johnson in the jaw to officially part ways with Sterling Oil. Clearly, this doesn’t bode well with the other members. After defeating former ally William Sterling this past Saturday in Keith and saving Chris Archer from a post-match beatdown by Johnson at the end of the show, The Revolutionary has begun life on his own. Stating his war with Sterling Oil won’t end until Shawn Johnson is no longer champion, how long do we have to wait until that happens? Read on to see what I think!
At WrestleZone’s show in Brechin this coming Saturday, I’d have Damien defeat Alan Sterling by disqualification due to interference from Alan’s brother William. The Tag Team Champions end their assault with an Oil Crash to their former colleague. A video is uploaded to WrestleZone’s social media channels following the show, with Damien challenging Alan to a rematch in Balmedie on October 7th with an added stipulation; if he’s able to pick up the win, he can have a shot at the Tag Team Titles with a partner of his choosing at Halloween Hijinx. Alan accepts and is defeated following Damien’s trademark Codebreaker finisher. The Revolutionary then reveals his partner will be a man he’s fought tooth and nail with; his former partner in Revolution, “Tenacious” Johnny Lions. The fans are delighted as Revolution reform to fight Sterling Oil. Come October 28th in Kincorth, The Sterling Brothers are able to retain their tag titles thanks to a Richard R. Russell distraction, a low blow from William to Damien behind the referee’s back and an Alan Sterling DDT for the three count. The fans argue to the referee that the brothers cheated to retain, but the decision stands.
At WrestleZone’s live event in Huntly on November 11th, Damien defeats Nathan North (which would be a fantastic match) before being blindsided from behind by Shawn Johnson and The Sterling Brothers. Luckily for Damien, he’s saved by Johnny Lions and Chris Archer (Mikkey Vago would replace Johnny if he’s cleared to return by this stage). Seeing this, Chris McDonald schedules a six man tag team match for the following show in Arbroath a week later with two unique stipulations for each side. If Sterling Oil are victorious, Damien will be forced to rejoin them. However if Damien’s team are victorious, he’ll earn a shot at Shawn’s Undisputed Championship at Christmas Chaos on December 2nd while The Rejected (or Archer and Lions) will get their tag title rematch against Alan and William. Of course, Damien’s team pick up the win when he delivers a superkick to Alan Sterling so the two title matches are made official for the last show of the year.
Elsewhere on Christmas Chaos, Crusher Craib manages to defeat Scotty Swift in the annual Christmas Chaos following a Big Boot while Scotty’s holding a steel chair, again assuming he’s cleared to return by this stage. This would put Scotty back on the shelf with a rehash of is concussion. In the main event, Damien is unsuccessful in his quest to become a two-time Undisputed Champion when the referee is taken out. This allows Crusher Craib to interfere and perform two Big Boots to the jaw of Damien followed by a Diving Double Foot Stomp by Johnson for the three count. This sets up Damien vs Crusher Craib for Summerhill Showdown in January 2018 (for the purpose of having a date, we’ll say January 20th). After Crusher relentlessly pounds away at Damien in the corner, the referee calls for the bell and disqualifies him. After the bell, The Creator of Carnage continues his path of destruction and powerbombs Damien in the centre of the ring. Crusher finally leaves the ringside area as Damien is tended to.
Following the show, Damien challenges Crusher to a rematch, this time under Revolution Rules in a rematch from the 2015 Aberdeen Anarchy. At WrestleZone’s next few live events in Montrose, Peterhead and Newtonhill throughout February and March, Damien defeats the likes of Andy Wild, The Super Executioner and Lou King Sharp (again, this would be another fantastic match) before being confronted by Crusher in Newtonhill. Crusher accepts the challenge, with the match being scheduled for the Regal Rumble (for a date, let’s say March 17th or March 24th), with both men also entering the 9th annual Regal Rumble Match. Just to note, Shawn Johnson is still champion at this point.
Come the Regal Rumble, Damien and Crusher go all over the Northern Hotel and use anything in their sight to pick up the win including chairs, kendo sticks and a table. In the end, Damien drives Crusher through the table with a huge elbow drop off the top rope for the win. Now, both men can focus on heading to the main event of Aberdeen Anarchy (with next year’s Anarchy taking place later in the year, does this mean the Rumble will also be later on? Hmm…). In the Rumble Match, Damien enters at number 5 and lasts all the way to the final four alongside Alan Sterling, William Sterling and Crusher Craib. Being the resilient wrestler that he is, Damien eliminates all three of them to earn the Regal Rumble trophy for the first time in his career. Damien and Shawn Johnson have a staredown to end the show. Just to note, if the Rumble does take place later on, move the date to be two or three months before Anarchy (if it’s in September, have the Rumble in June/July time etc.)
Leading in to the big title match, Damien defeats the likes of Nathan North, Aspen Faith and Kid Fite while Shawn defeats names such as Johnny Lions, Zach Dynamite and Aaron Echo. As we arrive at the show, there’s a big fight feel in the air as Damien has the chance to take the title from Shawn Johnson. To ensure it’s a fair fight, WrestleZone management representative Chris McDonald bans the rest of Sterling Oil from ringside. Both men exchange high-impact moves, with Damien coming in with the strong strikes and Shawn focusing on the more technical side of things. Eventually, there’s a ref bump and Sterling Oil run out to interfere but there chased off by Johnny Lions and Scotty Swift (who makes his surprise return from injury here when Johnny and Damien struggle to keep up with the numbers game). In the end, Damien performs two superkicks and his Codebreaker to become the fourth two-time Undisputed Champion in WrestleZone history.
I think we’re all pretty certain that Damien’s war against Sterling Oil is ending with him lifting the Undisputed Championship again. It’s just a matter of when and how. So, how do you see this rivalry playing out?
