For the last couple years I’ve been sitting patiently awaiting who is taking part in the tryouts when WWE comes to the UK. This week may’ve been my favourite class yet with plenty of really great names and a good few surprises. So for this ‘Five Picks’ I’m taking a look at my ‘Fave 5’ (as Booker T would say) and how I could see them fit into the WWE enviroment in the future.
Sammii Jayne
Top name for me personally is Sammii Jayne, Sammii has had a fantastic 2017 with winning the Pro Wrestling:EVE Championship and Discovery Wrestling Woman’s Championship. I’ve had my eye on Sammii since seeing her way back in 2012 and, since she moved to Source Wrestling School, she’s evolved into one of the best in the country. I’ve had the pleasure to interview her a few times on her way up the ladder and she just wants to be a wrestler. She has the wonderful chemistry with the likes of Viper, Kay Lee Ray and Debbie Sharpe that just makes for great viewing. Could easily see her rekindle a feud with Nikki Cross. Another strong year and the WWE will be battering down her door with a contract in hand.
Andy Wild
Andy Wild, for me, was a surprise inclusion but more than welcomed. Wild has had a transformation in body type in the last few years and looks to have a renewed motivation for wrestling. His last year or so in WrestleZone has rejuventated Wild and has helped him really become this towering monster throwing folk about like they’re nothing. He could follow the likes of Killian Dain who transformed himself into an animal, a fresh showdown between those two would be a hoss battle that would take a whole new level of ferociousness.
Polo Promotions
Polo Promotions seems like a no brainer to me, Mark Coffey and Jackie Polo are just so good whether as a team or individually. Bundles of charisma, a very smooth team that can really fit into the WWE NXT tag team scene that is in a state of flux since The Revival moved up and DIY split. Could imagine some really fun matches with SAnitY and Fish & O’Reilly with some battles with The Authors of Pain thrown in for good measure.
Kenny Williams
Then we have Kenny Williams, so young and agile, he would be a popular addition to the cruiserweight division any day. If he was really given the time he could be a very big name with his likable personality and his in ring capabilities. He’s looked to put on a fair amount of muscle lately and wouldn’t look out of place with a Tyler Bate or Mark Andrews in the ring.
Michael Chase
Michael Chase was another surprise, very technically sound and very good in the ring, I think he needs to find a character to really push him further up the ranks in British wrestling. He’ll get it and a stand out 2018 would surely have him back on that in that position. Perhaps an overhaul and a run as a bad guy will pull out that killer character.
With many others involved like Kasey, Iestyn Rees, Ashton Smith, Chris Ridgeway and others who have been working so hard this year, it was a very strong line up with plenty of prospects that could excel in NXT and beyond.
Who, from those that attended the tryout, would you like to see be snapped up by WWE?
