ICW returned to Glasgow’s O2 ABC this past weekend for a double header, kicking off with The 7th Annual Square Go! on Sunday. On a night where all the titles would be defended, we left the event with the seeds planted for some interesting matches down the line.
Billy Kirkwood and William Grange hyped up the show as usual, before sending it down to Simon Cassidy for the first match of the evening.
#1 Contenders Falls Count Anywhere Match
James Storm def. Jack Jester by Pinfall
Kicking things off was the Falls Count Anywhere Match between The Kinky Party’s Jack Jester and ICW debutant James Storm to determine a #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. The two shared a handshake before getting things underway, brawling through the crowd early in the match. As they made their way over beside the bar, they stopped fighting and drank some beer before continuing their brawl throughout the audience. As they came back to ringside, Storm delivered a kick to the head of Jester before he reversed a Plunge to the Dungeon into a Last Call superkick for a near fall. The Cowboy retrieved a table from under the ring and set it up in the centre of the ring, with Jack grabbing a steel chair from ringside without Storm noticing. As Storm finished setting up the table, Jester smacked him across the head with the chair for a near fall of his own. Storm fought back into it and delivered two more Last Call’s before driving Jester through the table with an Eye of the Storm for the three count to earn a shot at the ICW World Heavyweight Championship the following night. Jester praised Storm after the match before heading back up the ramp. His Kinky Party partner Sha Samuels came through the curtain, but he was shoved down by Jester who didn’t realise who it was. We’ll have more on these two later on. Meanwhile, Storm said he would sure as hell be back in an ICW ring down the line as he thanked the fans.
A fine hardcore brawl to kick off the show, with the right winner. If you’re going to have a man like James Storm in a #1 contenders match and have him lose, then what are you doing? The Kinky Party appear to be having a bit of miscommunication, so what will the future hold for them?
ICW Women’s Championship
Special Guest Commentator – Red Lightning
Martina def. Kasey (c) by Pinfall
Up next was the first of three title matches, as Kasey put her Women’s Championship on the line against Martina with the CEO of RUDO Sports and Entertainment Brand Red Lightning providing commentary alongside Kirkwood and Grange. Martina took the early lead, showing more skill in the ring as opposed to her usual shenanigans we’re used to seeing. The champion soon took over as she utilised a headstand to escape a neckscissors, before taking The Session Moth down with a headscissors. Martina found herself tangled in the ropes thanks to a hanging armbar, before having Kasey’s knee driven into her head in the corner. The challenger showcased some power throughout the contest, including delivering a brutal brainbuster in an attempt to become the new champion. As Kasey went to pin Martina later in the match, Red Lightning pulled referee Sean McLaughlin from the ring. This allowed RUDO’s newest acquisition Iestyn Rees to run in from the crowd and run through Kasey with an Alpha Wave spear. From that, there was no escaping for Kasey as Martina finally captured the ICW Women’s Championship. The new champion planted Kasey into the title belt with a Wombstone before leaving with her newly won title.
This was a fun title match with, in my opinion, the correct winner once again. Both of Kasey’s title reigns haven’t been that long, but there’s still time in her career to win the gold for a third time and have a longer title reign. Iestyn’s spear to Kasey was like a car crash, with The Clown Princess of Carnage falling to the mat in a heap. The first of three matches involving a client of RUDO and already a title won. How would Bram and Iestyn Rees do in their respective matches?
ICW Tag Team Championships
Rampage Brown & Ashton Smith (c) w/The Wee Man def. The Purge (Stevie James & Krobar) by Pinfall
The third contest saw the new ICW Tag Team Champions put their titles on the line for the first time as Rampage Brown and Ashton Smith defended their newly won gold against The Purge, or as The Wee Man called them, Mad Max Furry Toad and Roman Reigns’ Junkie Cousin. With the champions at ringside, Stevie James dove on to them with a suicide dive before the challengers drove Rampage head first in to a ring post. The Purge isolated Ashton Smith in the ring but it wasn’t long before Rampage made his way to the ring apron. After being tagged in, the monster from Leeds was let loose on the challengers. The champions destroyed Stevie James, nailing a vicious superkick/side slam combo for a near fall. The Purge regained control and attempted The MDK, but Krobar was knocked to the floor. Rampage and Ashton drilled Stevie in to the mat with a brutal aided powerslam off the ropes for the three count to remain the Tag Team Champions.
When I first saw Rampage and Ashton team up, I thought ‘oh, it’s just two powerhouses being put together randomly’. I’m not wrong in thinking that considering that’s what it was at first, but these two have proper chemistry with one another. While The Purge did get some offence in, Stevie James found himself being dismantled by Rampage and Ashton throughout the match. I don’t see how any team could possibly take the titles from around their waists, at least not for several months to come.
Undisputed ICW Championship
Special Guest Commentator – Red Lightning
BT Gunn (c) def. Bram by Pinfall
The penultimate match of the show saw “The Oddity” BT Gunn put his Undisputed Championship on the line against RUDO Sports and Entertainment Brand client Bram, with Red Lightning again joining the commentary booth. Bram attempted a piledriver right off the bat, but Gunn reversed with a victory roll for a two count. In a scene we don’t usually see from Bram, he dove off the top rope with a huge somersault dive to Gunn before they brawled through the crowd, where Bram tossed several chairs at the champion before setting up a ladder. Before he could do anything however, Gunn pulled him off the ladder with a powerbomb through the merch table. The Oddity then set Bram on a second table, before climbing to a balcony. As he was about to dive off, Bram moved, causing Gunn to instead leap off with a huge dive, wiping out Bram and a team of security. As they made their way back down to ringside, Gunn delivered a Techno Drome in the ring but Red Lightning pulled referee Thomas Kearins from the ring during the pinfall. The distraction allowed Iestyn Rees to run in from behind and knock down Gunn with an Alpha Wave, but it was only enough for a two count. Sean McLaughlin appeared and ordered both Lightning and Rees to head backstage. Bram continued the attack in the ring, delivering a piledriver through a steel chair. As he went for a cocky pin with only one foot on Gunn’s chest, The Oddity countered it with a schoolboy rollup for the three count to remain the Undisputed Champion. Bram was livid after the match before finally heading back through the curtain.
Match of the night for sure. There were several moments where Bram could’ve became the new champion, but his cockiness got the better of him in the end with BT Gunn picking up the win from out of nowhere. As we seen later on, it looks like Bram still has some business to finish with someone else…
7th Annual Square Go! Match
Stevie Boy last eliminated Mark Coffey to win
Main event time as we had the 2018 Square Go! Match. After Simon Cassidy ran down the rules, we had the first two entrants revealed as Chris Renfrew and Mikey Whiplash entered, with Whiplash coming out with a kendo stick. These two wasted no time getting started as they started brawling through the crowd. Lewis Girvan and Aspen Faith were the next entrants, sharing a hug in the centre of the ring before Whiplash and Renfrew finally entered the ring and teamed up on The Kings of Catch. Kay Lee Ray with leather straps and Sha Samuels with Jack Jester’s dildo were the next ones in before GPWA’s Kez Evans entered at number 7. Kez tried making friends with the other entrants but was instead nailed with a Stoner, a Zombie Maker and a triple superkick, before Sha Samuels tossed him out for the first elimination of the match. The ring soon started filling up, with the likes of Kid Fite, Kenny Williams, Wolfgang and Impact Wrestling’s Moose entering the fray. Fite entered with Lou King Sharp and Krieger, who weren’t official entrants in the match, but they were tossed out upon the arrival of Wolfgang, with The Purge coming to ringside to take them away. Former Tag Team Champions Mike Bird and Wild Boar made their debuts in the Square Go! Match, soon joined by their former partner Iestyn Rees. Despite no longer being aligned, the three teamed up, which resulted in the elimination of Sha Samuels. Sha was met by Jack Jester on the ramp after, but stormed to the back as Jester tried talking to him. Iestyn caught Kay Lee Ray in mid-air and tossed her in to Aspen Faith and Lewis Girvan, eliminating both members of The Kings of Catch, before he then dumped out Bird and Boar. The monstrous Tor Atterhagen entered at 16 and immediately tossed Kid Fite over the ropes, with a knee strike knocking Moose off the apron later on. Wolfgang used his brass knuckles to fight off the Swedish monster and managed to eliminate him, but Atterhagen reentered the ring and chokeslammed The Regulator in to the mat, leading to his eventual elimination at the hands of Jordan Devlin. Jackie Polo entered as the 19th man in, wearing his old King of Chat gear may I add, and tossed out both The Sam Barbour Experience and Jordan Devlin, before coming face to face with number 20 Lionheart. Polo decided to take a breather, while Lionheart got two eliminations in the form of Kay Lee Ray and Big Grizzly. Ravie Davie was in next, but after being distracted by Bram and the new Women’s Champion Martina on stage, he was quickly dumped over the ropes by Iestyn Rees. The Fresh Prince of Drumoyne Square charged at Bram, however a distraction from former fiancée Martina allowed Bram to smack him with a chair. Aaron Echo came in with a crate of lager which was finished by the time he made it to the ring. The Author of The Echo Bible hoisted Kenny Williams on to his shoulders and started spinning him round, with Kenny’s feet knocking down everyone else in the match. The ring again filled up, with the likes of Mark Coffey, Viper and Jody Fleisch putting their name in the hat to win it all. Coffey and Jackie Polo, despite not wearing the team colours of Polo Promotions, still teamed up and managed to eliminate Iestyn Rees before Lionheart planted The Power Forward with a superkick and again came face to face with Polo. Meanwhile, Fleisch managed to finally toss out the second entrant Mikey Whiplash. Joseph Conners at 26, armed with the last weapon of the match in the form of a steel chair which he attempted to use on Viper before she was saved by her husband DCT. DCT wasn’t in there for long though, soon being tossed out by Conners, who himself was then eliminated by Viper. The music of “The Prestigious One” Joe Hendry sounded throughout The O2 ABC, but it was his intern Leyton Buzzard who made his way down the ramp. He missed a Coast to Coast before being on the receiving end of a Stoner and tossed out by Chris Renfrew. The last of four Filthy Generation members came in as the second-to-last entrant, with the arrival of Stevie Boy, who knocked Viper off the top rope to eliminate her from the contest. The King of Insanity soon found himself on the verge of elimination, but a sidestepped a charging Aaron Echo, causing Echo to eliminate himself. The final entrant came out as Joe Hendry appeared on stage with a steel chair, taking a seat instead of joining in on the action. Leyton Buzzard ran down to ringside and distracted Jody Fleisch, allowing Hendry to sneak in and low blow The Phoenix and toss him out the ring. What followed was a Freak of Nature for all the remaining competitors, except for Lionheart, who managed to land on his feet and toss out The Prestigious One, leaving us with a final 6. After Jackie Polo eliminated the first entrant Chris Renfrew, he and Lionheart started brawling before they both tossed over the top by Stevie Boy and Mark Coffey respectively. Kenny Williams avoided elimination by nailing Stevie Boy with a slingshot spear but was tossed out not long after, as we had the final two. Stevie Boy and Mark Coffey waged war for several minutes but in the end, Stevie clobbered Mark over the head with a steel chair which knocked him off the apron, resulting in a filthy victory for the 2018 Square Go! Match. The Icon Killer was soon joined by Kay Lee Ray and The Kings of Catch, before coming face to face with Undisputed Champion BT Gunn. After Gunn headed back through the curtain, Stevie Boy continued his celebration as the show came to an end.
Was there really anyone else that should’ve won? Stevie Boy has proven himself time and time again to be one of the best workers in the UK, and this victory was the icing on the cake for him in ICW. With The Filthy Generation by his side, is there any chance he’ll fail in his cash-in attempt?
