The 2018 WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament is in the history books and seeing as they don’t air until next Monday and Tuesday on the WWE Network (so it’ll be free to watch if you’re a new subscriber, as Michael Cole will let you know), there will be spoilers.
Night 1 of the tournament saw Joe Coffey compete in the quarterfinals, having defeated Tucker in the first round. The Iron King saw off another big brute in Dave Mastiff during the quarterfinal round before he fell at the hands of current PROGRESS World Champion Travis Banks in the semifinals. That wouldn’t be the only time we saw Coffey during the shows as he and brother Mark, after teaming together against NXT’s Heavy Machinery at the Download Festival, assaulted Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster at the end of a Fatal Four Way Match on night 2. Looks like we’ve found the first team for NXT UK’s tag team division.
Speaking of that Fatal Four Way Match, it was between Andrews, Webster, Travis Banks, and the returning Noam Dar with the winner earning a future opportunity at Pete Dune’s United Kingdom Championship. In the end, it would be Noam that walked away with the victory as he now has a chance to win the UK Championship from The Bruiserweight.
Wolfgang also had an unsuccessful attempt to take the NXT North American Championship away from The Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole on night 2, while Source Wrestling School graduate Isla Dawn lost to Toni Storm in a Triple Threat Match also including Killer Kelly. As a result, Toni earned a shot at Shayna Baszler’s NXT Women’s Championship the following night.
WWE’s expansion to the United Kingdom is now in full swing, especially after the announcement of the new NXT UK brand. An exciting time for British wrestling!
