The second instalment of World of Sport Wrestling premiered on ITV earlier tonight, and it was another cracking show. Another four contests showcased the future of British wrestling, including the crowning of the first ever Women’s Champion in WOS history. What did our Scots get up to this week though?

Joe Hendry

Joe Hendry interrupted Rampage’s championship celebration at the start of the show, demanding an opportunity at the WOS Championship which Stu Bennett granted him. The Prestigious looked to be set on a championship victory, connecting with a Freak of Nature and locking in a Hendry Lock. To be completely honest, he was in control for the majority of the match. A distraction from Sha Samuels and CJ Banks put an end to that however, allowing Rampage to spike Joe with an implant DDT to retain the gold.

I really enjoyed this match but when it’s Rampage vs Joe Hendry, how could you not enjoy it? Rampage continues on from last week’s showing of being an obnoxious champion, once again using the lifting DDT that he makes look even more brutal than it already is. The star of the match was however Joe Hendry. He’s the complete package in wrestlers; the look, the charisma, the ability to back it up in the ring, he’s great on the mic. I’m 100% sure that there isn’t a thing he’s unable to do. Joe Hendry makes things better for everyone on WOS!

Lionheart

Lionheart debuted this week in a Fatal Four Way Ladder Match against Gabriel Kidd, Liam Slater, and Robbie X. He had a few short exchanges with the incredible high-flyer that is Robbie X, a man I look forward to seeing a whole lot more. The highlight of the match for Lionheart was giving Slater a Rock Bottom off one of the ladders, absolutely brutal spot. He came inches to the briefcase until being knocked off at the hands of eventual winner, Gabriel Kidd.

Fast-paced, hard-hitting action, just what a Ladder Match should be. We didn’t really learn too much about each of the competitors in the match but we certainly got to see what they’re capable of. There some moments, such as Lionheart being catapulted in to a ladder, where the camera cut away on the impact due to it airing before the 9pm watershed that took away from the match a bit but there’s nothing you can do about that I guess. Little side note, but Robbie X is someone I’ll need to check out a bit more. Such a talent.

Kay Lee Ray and Viper

Kay Lee Ray and Viper, alongside New Zealand’s Bea Priestley, created quite the buzz on social media for being the first set of females to main event a World of Sport show, which includes both the modern and older versions. Each woman looked like the stars they are during the whole match, with pin attempts coming left, right, and centre. Viper dominated KLR and Priestley, which included giving the latter a nasty powerbomb on the outside. Determined to be crowned the first WOS Women’s Champion, Kay Lee found the power and strength to hoist up Viper for a Gory Bomb and gain the three count.

An outstanding way to round off the show. Kay Lee Ray, Viper, and Bea Priestley are arguably in the top five women’s wrestlers in the UK just now, and the World of Sport executives obviously seen the star power they all had by giving them the main event slot. Any of them would’ve made for a great first champion, but congratulations do of course go to Kay Lee Ray!

Next week’s episode will see Joe Hendry take on Martin Kirby, Gabriel Kidd receiving a huge opportunity as a result of his Ladder Match victory (which appears to be a Stretcher Match with Crater judging by the trailer), plus Rampage making the second defence of his WOS Championship!
