With Aberdeen Anarchy X coming up in a few weeks, we’ll have a few interviews up on the site with some of the stars featured on the show.

First up, we chat to “Vintage” Nathan North, who challenges for the Tri-Counties Championship on September 1st!

You’re one of the newer faces on the Scottish wrestling scene, having debuted in October 2016. How has it felt coming in at a time when the wrestling scene in the UK is at an all-time high?

Starting when I did was intimidating because of how far along the professional wrestling scene was and still is in the UK. It’s as big and jam packed with amazing talent as ever, but that’s what drives me to never be complacent or comfortable, I’m always pushing myself to get better and learn as much as I can from the best in Britain.

What made you decide that wrestling was something you wanted to do in your life?

I always wanted to be a professional wrestler, my brothers were my biggest influences when I was younger. They introduced me and I was instantly hooked!

Obviously you’ve become known for being vintage. How did this character develop if you don’t mind me asking? Any influences from others?

Vintage was something I had in mind for a while. You would hear people say it and everybody thinks they know what it means but in actual fact nobody’s wrong but nobody’s right either. Jeeves had his vision on what he thought I should look like or how I should conduct myself out in the ring and although I didn’t agree with him I listened to him because of how much experience he had within WrestleZone.

Just under a year in to your time on WrestleZone, you were paired with Jeeves Winchester until you turned on him in Turriff. How much of an impact do you feel Jeeves had on your matches?

This kind of links in with Q. 3 but Jeeves was the reason ‘Vintage’ looked the way it looked and everything behind the appearance whether it be the man bun or wine… that’s not me. At Inverurie and any future events you and everybody else will see the true Nathan North… the real meaning of Vintage!

Many people have classed yourself as one of the fastest rising stars to come from WrestleZone, which says a lot when you see some of the other names that have come through the academy. What sort of feeling does that give you knowing you have the support of so many people, both fans and wrestlers alike?

It’s humbling… whether it be public or private messages from fans or fellow wrestlers showing support. I came into wrestling knowing I wanted to do it but also thinking I couldn’t. So to be where I’m at now and for you to say “one of the fastest rising stars from WrestleZone” it’s humbling and I appreciate it all never to take an opportunity for granted.

I hear you’ve recently started training at the Source Wrestling School down in Glasgow. Is there anyone/anything that made you want to start training there on top of what you had learned at WrestleZone?

Yes I have started training at Source Wrestling School this year. Both schools have helped me improve so much. I wanted to train at Source to learn from a completely different perspective because as I said earlier i don’t want to become complacent I’m always looking for new ways to improve.

You’ve only just recently debuted for Discovery Wrestling at their beach party event against The Kings of Catch. How do you feel this match went?

Discovery vs Kings of Catch… we lost yes but we were given a fantastic opportunity to go head to head with one of the BEST tag teams in wrestling today. Me and Zach have never teamed before that match and we took the Kings closer to defeat than ANYBODY expected us to. We earned the respect of the fans AND the locker room. So even in defeat we both left that match proud of what we had accomplished out there and thankful of the opportunity to perform on such a big stage with such a decorated tag team.

On the subject of matches, who would you say have been your favourites opponents and/or matches so far? Any dream matches you’d like to have?

Favourite opponents would be Damien and The Kings of Catch. I just explained why for the Kings but Damien is a different story. I was Damien’s first title defense of last year and this was a HUGE opportunity for me as I was going head to head with someone a lot of people deemed the best in WrestleZone. I learned more from that match than any other in my career so far and I came so close. Again, even though I lost that match, I left the ring with respect from the fans and the back stage talent. Dream opponent will forever be Shawn Michaels.

You’ve got a Tri-Counties Championship Fatal Four Way Match coming up at Aberdeen Anarchy X. What can we expect to see from Nathan North in this sort of environment?

Being involved in the Tri Counties Title Match is another monumental moment in my career. Last year I was on the pre-show and this year I’m in there going after the Tri Counties Title. As for what you can expect to see from Nathan North… buy a ticket and I will happily show you the absolute BEST Nathan North there is.

What do you hope to have achieved in 5 years time?

In 5 years time… I don’t know. Hopefully still wrestling, still humble, still fighting, scratching and clawing for any and every opportunity to get better. Wrestling is so tough today that it can be taken away in a heartbeat if you don’t strive to get better.
