WrestleZone kicked off their 2019 in style with Summerhill Showdown last night from Aberdeen’s Summerhill Hotel. The night was jam-packed with fantastic wrestling as well as some huge announcements. I won’t waste any more of your time – here are the talking points coming away from Summerhill Showdown 2019!

Championships Retained

All three of WrestleZone’s championships were up for grabs at the Summerhill Hotel, and all three remained with their respective champions. We’ll get on to the Tag Team Championships in a moment, but both the Undisputed and Tri-Counties Championships were defended in Triple Threat Matches. Mr P made the first successful defence of his newly won Tri-Counties Championship against Bradley Evans and former two-time champ Zach Dynamite, while Damien made another defence of his Undisputed Championship against the returning Jack Jester and Krieger. Fantastic stuff all around, although it’s best not to talk about Damien’s dancing skills…

Statement Made

As mentioned, The Kings of Catch’s Tag Team Championships were challenged for by the greatest tag team in WrestleZone history Scotty Swift and Johnny Lions. Just when it looked like Swift and Lions were on the cusp of establishing their position as a team within WrestleZone, Blue Thunder and William Sterling stormed the ring and delivered a beating to not just them, but also to Aspen Faith and Lewis Girvan. Claiming it was nothing personal, The Thunder Buddies (still no clue if they’re called that again) posed with the Tag Team Championship belts, making their intentions crystal clear. They want to become two-time WrestleZone Tag Team Champions.

Academy Graduates Impress

Some of the more recent graduates of the WrestleZone Training Academy graduates competed on the show, with Ryan Riley scoring the win over Kaden Garrick on the pre-show while The Outfit pairing of Dino Del Monte and Ted O’Keefe were successful with another victory over The Rejected after targeting Mikkey Vago’s leg for the duration of the bout. While those names had their first matches last year, there was one man making his WrestleZone debut out of the academy in the form of Connor Inglis. He was the one to answer Crusher Craib’s open challenge after being dared to by The Creator of Carnage and although he came so close to beating the monster, he was put down with a Black Hole Slam. He may not have won (or walked away on his own two feet), but he left an impression on the WrestleZone faithful.

Reed And Sterling Succeed

Jason Reed and Alan Sterling are two men who I just can’t get bored of right now. Everything they’re doing is entertaining. Reed overcame a returning Shawn Johnson in the opening match of the main card after a distraction from Agent W, whereas Sterling narrowly defeated Irving Garrett after Caleb Valhalla reversed a rollup into Sterling’s favour. It was the only way Alan would be walking away victorious, seeing as Irving tied him up in knot after knot after knot. There wasn’t much breathing space for the multi-time Tag Team Champion in this one. It still stands that he was victorious though, and that’s what matters most.

ERROR – Gravity Lost

WrestleZone promised an announcement regarding Aberdeen Anarchy 2019, and boy did they deliver! Making his WrestleZone debut is former WWE Cruiserweight Champion PAC (fka Neville). Due to his hectic schedule, this year’s Aberdeen Anarchy will now take place on Saturday April 13th as opposed to June 1st, but it will still be at Aberdeen’s Beach Leisure Centre. Tickets already purchased will still be valid. No word yet on how this will affect the rest of WrestleZone’s early 2019 schedule (specifically, the Regal Rumble) but keep your eyes peeled on WrestleZone’s social media pages as I’m sure they’ll let us know in due time!

So, those were the main things to talk about coming away from a cold night at the Summerhill Hotel. For those there, what was your favourite moment?
