After the year five anniversary show at the beginning of October, it was difficult to see how Discovery could top that but with the ‘Jam House of Horrors’ event they just about managed it. With former WWE superstar MVP announced along with the likes of Michael Chase (in his last ever professional match), Joe Coffey, Kings of Catch, Sugar Dunkerton and, of course, The Munndertaker it promised to be a great days wrestling.
Pre-Show – There was a well organised meet a greet where you could have your photo taken with MVP for £20, this proved really popular and many fans arrived early for the privilege. MVP took the mic before the show and praised Discovery Wrestling for their handling of the previous event in March 2018 where he was due to appear but was cancelled due to the ‘Beast from the East’ and also said it was a privilege to be wrestling Michael Chase in his last match.
It was also announced that BT Gunn would not be able to compete due to injury, we wish him a speedy recovery. A new opponent would be revealed for Joe Coffey later.
MC – Jam O’Malley
Referee – Chris Quinn
Isla Dawn defeated Raven Creed
First off here well done on opening with a woman’s match. It’s still a rare done thing at Scottish wrestling shows but when you have two ladies as popular and able to hold a crowd like this why shouldn’t they open the show. I have followed Isla’s career since some of her first matches in SWA and Source, and she is truly deserving of her place on the NXT UK roster. I must make an effort to see more of Raven’s work and if anyone can recommend some great matches of hers I’m all ears. Anyway, an enjoyable opener with a number of great moves from both. Not sure what Isla winning means in terms of future matches but I’d like to see her versus Session Moth at some point soon. With Kasey versus Nina Samuels already announced for the next show the woman’s division really is hotting up, they are doing a great job of building up several legit challengers.
Jason Reed defeated Alexander Dean
Another solid outing for Reed here, he is definitely in for a huge push in Discovery. The ‘All About The Wrestling’ approach Discovery takes has really allowed him to show what he can do in the ring to add to his already proven character work. The former Sean South, Alexander Dean, seems to have reinvented himself in his new character. I’d love to see these two in a two out of three falls or something like that to give both of them a chance to shine for longer as I thought they didn’t have long enough here. Once again Reed quite rightly took the win here, where they go with him now is anyone’s guess but the possibilities are definitely there.
Fierce Females Championship – Submission Match – Sammii Jayne defeated Angel Hayze
In March of this year Discovery held their first ever woman’s Disco Derby show where fifteen woman competed in an over the top rope match. While not absolutely everything in the match came off all fifteen women done themselves proud in a first in Scottish wrestling. The biggest shock was Angel Hayze eliminating Sammii Jayne meaning a new champion would be crowned. The two woman have clashed since then so would settled their rivalry in this match. I praised Angel after last month’s fatal four way along with three more experienced workers and she gave another standout performance here matching Sammii move for move and nearly making her tap out countless times. Ultimately Sammii would get the victory though. Jayne needed to go over here if she is getting her one on one rematch for the title. Next show perhaps?
Four Corners Tag Team Match – The Anti-Fun Police (Chief Deputy Dunne & Los Federales Santos Jr) defeated Pure Dead Brilliant (Lou King Sharp & Krieger), The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith & Lewis Girvan) and Kid Fite & Sean McLaughlin
Chief Deputy Dunne had already made his mark in Discovery and this time he brought his big ally Los Federales with him. Referee Sean McLaughlin was making his in ring Disco debut in this and hilariously wrestled in half ref/half wrestling attire. All three teams were gunning for The Anti-Fun Police here and the crowd were really into this. All eight men played their part in a fun enjoyable little bout. Once again the right winners here, it drew some real heat from those in attendance and left the other three teams wondering how they lost. The Anti-Fun Police, for me, would make excellent first tag team champions for me with KOC and PDB chasing, I said it’s about time Disco had them after the last show and I haven’t changed my mind.
Discovery Wrestling Y Division Championship Number One Contendership – Joe Coffey defeated Kenny Williams
After BT Gunn’s withdrawal we all eagerly anticipated who Joe Coffey’s opponent was going to be and many were surprised when crowd favourite and NXT UK superstar Kenny Williams appeared. Joe was able to use his power to his advantage with Williams using his quickness to nearly pull off a surprise win on several occasions. That said I’d have been surprised if Coffey hadn’t have scored the pin here, he is the obvious candidate for a rematch just now for the Y Division title, the feud with Joe Hendry couldn’t just stop at one match. Joe demanded his rematch after the bout and Discovery Wrestling owner Alan Smith announced that Hendry and Coffey would fight it out in a steel cage match on Dec 1st. Woo! Just… woo! what an announcement, that caught me by surprise but a great surprise, a must see event now.
After that announcement we needed a break for halftime.
Damien defeated Fraser Thomas
Those of you familiar with Discovery shows will know that their cards are long, especially recently, usually about 8-10 matches. Sometimes it usually means that one match gets a bit lost and this was it. Probably didn’t help that both wrestlers aren’t as well known if you only attend Discovery. Two talented individuals here, both of whom have the potential to be around the Scottish wrestling scene for several years but it just appeared the crowd wasn’t into it despite both getting in some signature moves. Damien in particular has impressed me since I first saw him but I feel both would benefit from being given more time to show what they could do.
The Sensational Scenebirds (Christopher Saynt & Emily Hayden) defeated Theo Doros & Ayesha Raymond
Saynt and Doros have been at loggerheads with each other since the breakup of The House of Saynt a year ago. Back at the Disco Derby in March these two fought to a tremendous no contest where both legit could not continue. For this match both were told to find a partner for a mixed tag whereby the winner would choose the stipulation for a final showdown at ‘The Christmas Disco’ on Dec 1st. Saynt enlisted the help of his Scenebird teammate Emily Hayden and Theo brought back ‘The Amazon’ Ayesha Raymond. Theo continues to impress me and this has probably been the best year of his career so far, however it was Saynt who continues to outfox his rival with the win and the right to pick a match of his choosing. As of writing we haven’t heard from Saynt as to what type of match he is going to choose but I hope it is fitting for the end of their feud.
Loser Loses Their Soul – The Munndertaker defeated Sugar Dunkerton
I find it hard to imagine a Discovery Wrestling show without either one or both of these wrestlers on the card. When Gene Munny first appeared as The Munndertaker I don’t think there was anyone that could keep a straight face in the crowd. I thoroughly enjoyed this match. While it wasn’t a wrestling clinic it was never likely to be. It kept the fans entertained and that’s part of putting on a good show. The was only over going to be one winner here, after Sugar’s victory in the Zombie match last November the ‘Immortal Munndertaker’ was always likely to take revenge.
The raffle was next and Alan Smith went over what was announced for the next show, a special mention was also given to Reckless Intent and the two promotions close relationship.
Main Event – MVP defeated Michael Chase
And so we came to an emotional main event, the last match of the professional wrestling career of Michael Chase. I have followed Chase’s career with interest since 2015 when I started attending Reckless Intent shows, however he started wrestling for a now defunct promotion back in 2007. When he left that promotion in 2009 he thought he was done with wrestling however he made the best decision he could have starting Reckless Intent Wrestling a couple of years later and getting back into wrestling rising to as high as a WWE tryout in fall 2017. He is being forced to retire due to a persistent knee problem which is never an easy decision to take. Before then however there was one last match and against one of the men Chase credits with getting him into wrestling again in 2007, former WWE superstar MVP. Discovery promised MVP would return after a cancelled event last year and they were true to their word. Both men got a huge ovation from the crowd. MVP would win via tap out but it was all about the tributes to Chase after the match. Several people including Jam O’Malley, on announcing, and Alan Smith were visibly moved. Good luck at whatever you get up to in the future Michael, we all wish you well.
What a way to end a big show. There is always something for everyone at a Discovery show and there certainly was at this one. From mixed tags, to four corner, to singles matches, to a retirement the whole show seemed to flow as it should. While the occasional match suffers from the length of the cards I wouldn’t want them any other way. A very enjoyable day out as usual.
I have went over a few matches for the next show, there is already five announced with the potential for a lot more. All the details about what’s announced and ticket information can be found here. Remember you might not see another cage match for a while.

Just one final thing, if anyone would like to hear more about Michael Chase’s career and how Reckless Intent got started, I can recommend this podcast recorded last year.
