Less than a week remains before Pro2 Wrestling runs amok once again in their equivalent to Madison Square Garden as the Ayrshire promotion returns to the Annbank Village Hall to present Mayday Mayhem 2 on the 11th of May. As the venue plays host to the event for a second time, the seven-bout card will no doubt garner noise complaints from volume-conscious community members due to how loud the Annbank faithful will be. This article will discuss the show in detail.
Scottish Interpromotional Championship – Davey Blaze w/Charles Boddington vs Lucha DS w/Soldato
“The Glasgow Gladiator” has been on a wrecking spree ever since his debut in Annbank last year, and captured the Scottish Interpromotional Championship due to his vicious in-ring style and the wicked deeds of his manager, Charles Boddington. Pro2 management has had enough of the unmitigated hell that Boddington and his cronies have been causing, and “the Kingpin” Cameron Findlay has called upon “Scotland’s Favourite Luchador” to defend the honour of the fans and the company.
Lucha DS never backs down from a fight and has always stood up to Pro2’s biggest fiends, and he must now go toe-to-toe with the gold-clad juggernaut and is going for his jugular: the Scottish Interpromotional Championship. Not only that but Soldato has been summoned to be in Lucha’s corner to even the odds and prevent “the Manager of Champions” from getting away with his usual shenanigans. The luchadores are hoping that this will be enough to neutralise their opponents’ cheating, but you can never be too careful, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Boddington and his cronies have a Plan B.
Triple Threat – Soldato vs Silas Everett vs Marc Munro
Marc Munro has had a turbulent year in Pro2, having lost every single match – and, subsequently, every single tag title match – he has been involved in. After losing the double tag team championship match at Homecoming, where he was pinned by Target Wrestling Tag Team Champion Lucha DS to lose the Collective’s Big Massive Wrestling Tag Team Championships, tag partner and stablemate Scott Valentine stormed out of the venue in anger at the loss. Upon realising the weight of the impending consequences, “the Young Maniac” has concluded that the Collective has left a toxic imprint on him and he needs to make some changes. And, to make those changes, he has decided that he must do this triple threat match alone and approach it with a healthier mindset – a match that features his former tag team partner, as well as one of the men who took the Big Massive Wrestling Tag Team Championships away from him.
Silas Everett debuted in Pro2 as Munro’s impromptu tag team partner at King of the Bing after Collective members Dean Ford – who was Munro’s originally scheduled partner – and Scott Valentine – who was Ford’s replacement – both fell to injury. After eating the pin from the then-BMW Tag Team Champions Ace Anderson and Hugo Harris, Everett was subjected to a brutal attack from Munro before being saved by the champions. Everett hasn’t forgotten what Munro did to him nearly a year ago and not only does he not believe that Munro has changed, but he also doesn’t believe that Munro should be forgiven for his previous malfeasance, and plans on delivering some revenge. Everett showed a lot of promise in his appearance at King of the Bing and has built himself up steadily in other promotions, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in this triple threat.
This will be the first solo venture in Pro2 for “the High Flying Death Defying Infanteria” since his loss to Xero in the tournament semi-finals of 2022’s Joker’s Wild show. Soldato is a formidable tag team competitor, but he will have to prove his mettle as a singles competitor here in Pro2, and he has his work cut out for him against two young lions in the company’s first three-way contest in nearly a year and a half.
Blood Money Mercs (Dick Naylor & Vinnie Van Driver) vs Meat Factory (John Kerr & Craig Berry)
No matter how hard they try or how devious their antics, the Mercs’ plans for Pro2 always seem to backfire, getting so caught up in trying to get one over on Arcade Violence and Big Bad John that it cost them the Target Wrestling Tag Team Championships at BattleLines 2023 against Lucha Scotland. As usual, Naylor has been running his mouth on social media with all sorts of trolling and demanding, whilst Driver lurks silently behind him. Now, they have a brand new challenge.
John Kerr and Craig Berry have been a mainstay of Pro Wrestling Ready and Valor Wrestling for some time, but have only recently decided to band together as the Meat Factory. The pair are keen to build themselves up as a strong team and they now have the opportunity to tenderise the Pro2 tag team division. Pro2 management wants to kill multiple birds with one stone by giving the plucky upstarts a chance to prove themselves if it means satisfying the egos of Naylor and Driver as well as putting the Mercs in their place. The Mercs need to enter the match with a clear mindset and no distractions if they wish to beat the Meat Factory.
And if there’s one thing Dick Naylor knows, it’s beating meat.
Rosie Nyte vs Daisy Jenkins
The Belles Division Commissioner turned some heads upon her in-person return to the company at Homecoming. Not only did she declare Angel Hayze’s successful title defence against Daisy Jenkins as null and void, but she also stated that Nyte was the only legitimate Belles’ Champion after reemerging with her own version of the belt. This led to an ugly brawl in the ring before “the Feisty Fifer” made the save for Hayze. Unhappy at being upstaged and put down upon her Pro2 return, Nyte now has plans to rip the Belles’ Championship from the hands of fan favourite Hayze to become the undisputed champion and solidify her status as Belles’ Champion. However, she has to go through Daisy Jenkins first.
Jenkins came mere inches away from not only dethroning Angel Hayze on her maiden title defence but gaining her first career win here in Pro2. After exhibiting a rare display of sportsmanship in defeat and making the save for Hazye after being attacked by Nyte, we are now seeing a different side of Jenkins and she plans on being a roadblock in Nyte’s plans to become the Undisputed Belles’ Champion.
Nyte relinquished the championship in late 2022 due to injury, resulting in Emily Hayden winning the vacant championship at BattleLines less than a week later. At Brawl at the Hall II less than a month later, Nyte was introduced as the Belles’ Division Commissioner during her shelf time. Now, the inaugural Belles’ Champion wishes to dust off the cobwebs and get back into ruling the roost, having never legitimately lost the title. But first, she must go through Daisy Jenkins and prevent her from gaining her first Pro2 career victory.
Pro2 Why So Serious? Championship – Logan Smith (c) vs Ray Berani
“The Leader of the Revolution” has shaken up the Joker’s Division ever since his scandalously victorious debut at the inaugural Mayday Mayhem show against Krieger. After losing the return grudge match against “Big Daddy Kill” at Homecoming, Berani is moving on and has decided that he needs some gold to boost his cause, meaning he is now gunning for the top prize of the Jokers. However, a valiant and dominant champion stands in his way from taking his Revolution of the Joker’s Division full tilt.
Logan Smith has been on a spree of dominance ever since unifying the belts at Bruisestation 2023, and is hoping to make 2024 another fantastic year for the Undisputed Why So Serious? Championship. Berani is a familiar opponent outside of Pro2 for the fan favourite Smith, but this is their first one-on-one encounter within Pro2. Given that there is gold on the line, Berani’s game will need to be drastically adapted if he wishes to dethrone Smith and solidify his Revolution of the Joker’s Division as a force to be reckoned with.
Hammerhead Smith vs Hunter Samson
The 6’7” goliath of Fife was screwed out of becoming the Ayrshire Heavyweight Champion after the nefarious deeds of Charles Boddington allowed TJ Rage to retain at Homecoming. Not only that, he was dealt a duff hand in the Scottish Interpromotinal Championship gauntlet match at BattleLines 2023 due to Boddington’s secret chicanery, and Samson has had enough. Seeing that Blaze and Rage are already pencilled in for bouts at Mayday Mayhem 2, he is going gung-ho for the only remaining member of Boddington’s wrecking crew at BattleLines: Hammerhead Smith.
“The Bristol Brawler” may have come up short in the gauntlet match, but it was all part of a grander scheme and Smith seems keen to keep up his part in the trophy cabinet, hoping to give the group a clean sweep over the giant and derail any future potential that Samson may have.
However, given Samson’s current anger and his sinister warning at Homecoming, Smith is in severe danger of being taken out of the game for good. Hammerhead is a heavy hitter and utilises his dirty tactics well, so it will be interesting to see how he can combat Samson and bring the big man down, as well as evade his wrath.
Pro2 Ayrshire Heavyweight Championship – TJ Rage (c) w/Charles Boddington vs Andy Roberts
TJ Rage and Charles Boddington have turned Pro2 on its head for the past year and the shocking revelation of their alliance at BattleLines 2023 has left many scarred. Having derailed the championship aspirations of the colossal Hunter Samson at Homecoming, Rage is satisfied that if he can beat a monster like Samson, he can beat anyone. And, as we approach the anniversary of TJ Rage’s violent turn against Cameron Findlay and his son Logan, the boss has pulled some strings to make the anniversary one to remember and drafted in an old friend to challenge TJ Rage for the Ayrshire Heavyweight Championship: a friend in the form of Andy Roberts.
Roberts was last seen in Pro2 at the 2022 Joker’s Wild event, where he successfully defended his UEWA European Heavyweight Championship against Stone Malone – a title he held under his former ring name Andy Wild, which makes this coming Saturday the Pro2 debut of the Andy Roberts name. After a brief stint in NXT UK back in 2021, the “Dad Bod God” has been making moves in his mainstay promotion of ICW and is finally making his long-awaited return to the Ayrshire promotion.
Rage, Findlay, and Roberts have a long history together, all holding gold in the former SSW promotion – a history that “the Kingpin” holds close to his heart. Having seen Rage’s reign of valour turn into a reign of terror, Roberts was more than happy to step in and try to stop Rage in his tracks. This personal fight will be a fantastic main event, but we must acknowledge the inevitable interference that will come at the hands of Charles Boddington.
Ever since “the Manager of Champions” made his dubious return to the promotion at BattleLines 2023, he has interfered in every championship match involving his trophy cabinet and is the main reason why Davey Blaze and TJ Rage are current Pro2 champions. He will no doubt leave his mark in the match, but the only question remains is to what extent? Unlike the contest between Blaze and Lucha DS, Roberts will not have anyone in his corner to even the odds against Boddington, so it must be queried as to what Roberts’ game plan is, knowing that he is essentially entering a handicap match.
