Episode 6 returned VALOR to it’s original timeline after the detour to ‘Back Clash’. Episode 6 took up from June’s ‘Most Wanted’ event that took place at the Venue in Paisley. The aesthetic of the wood frame and white walls gave it a renaissance fair vibe to go see the wrasslin’.
God’s Country (Tim Strange & Frank X. Cross) w/Sister Veronica & Stone Malone defeated Legends Never Die (Fulton King & Sami Sparx) by pinfall.
Tim Strange and Fulton King traded off to start the match, the hosses of their respective teams weren’t giving an inch. Slaps, shoulder blocks, and a couple three point stance tackles didn’t have either budge as the stalemate continued.
King dodged the third tackle attempt and used the momentum to send Strange to the mat and rolling out of the ring to a roar from the VALOR crowd.
Sami Sparx turned up the speed, knocking down Frank of the Cross with dropkicks, but some divine intervention from Sister Veronica gave Cross the opening to give Sparx a big sidewalk slam and cut the ring in half with the masked man in no man’s land. The quick tags followed, Sparx felt the full weight of Tim Strange on his neck during a bit of rodeo time, with Cross putting the boots to the chaotic luchador.
Some dipping, diving, and dodging allowed Fulton King to return to the action as the juggernaut started slamming, a timely distraction from Veronica allowed Stone Malone to spear King in front of the referee, King then stumbled into a Lariat from Tim Strange for a God’s Country win.
We’ll talk about the relaxed rules, Stone Malone used a referee distraction earlier in the match to choke and get a dig into Sami Sparx… but was blatantly attacking Fulton King in the conclusion to no disqualification. That confusion aside it was a nice match, the interactions between Fulton King and Tim Strange were good fun.
We got a quick introduction to Tommy Lockhart who is due to be in action on the next episode of This Is VALOR, quick, simple, and effective.
Seb Silvers defeated RABU by pinfall.
A rare singles match from Casino Brutale’s RABU who got a heroes welcome, especially with his second take entrance that got a very loud “one more time” chant.
Silvers tried to pick up the pace early but RABU was quick as a cat to grab Seb for a headlock. The Swedish Supernova made a hasty exit, goading RABU to the outside which ultimately gained Seb Silvers the upper hand.
The momentum swung back and forth as both tried to string some manoeuvres together. RABU got a close near fall following a lovely top rope crossbody. The two fought over a waistlock, but Silvers managed to land a springboard stunner that could only get a two count. A Blue Thunder Bomb in response had Seb Silvers reeling.
They battled to the top rope, Silvers electing to bite the head of RABU to send The House crashing down, a high flying elbow drop from the top turnbuckle was enough for Seb Silvers to pick up the victory.
A great match. RABU and Silvers were fairly even with Silvers having to go underhanded to get the win. The moves were slick, the increase in desperation from Seb Silvers to start the questionable biting tactics was a fantastic thread throughout.
Daisy Jenkins defeated Rubi Roberts by pinfall.
Daisy Jenkins immediately went to the agility well, giving Rubi Roberts no peace. Roberts dodged a 619 but found herself looking at the boots of a flying Jenkins as they flew through the ropes.
Once on the outside it was Rubi Roberts country, slamming Daisy’s head off the apron before throwing forearms back in the ring. Rubi leathered Jenkins with chops, but a quick ducking gave her space to land a hand right hand chop of her own.
Just as Daisy Jenkins was building the momentum, it stopped effectively with a clothesline from Rubi Roberts. Daisy fought back to hit a flying European Uppercut, sending Roberts scrambling to the ropes but in prime position for a 619.
Roberts still showed signs of life, kicking out of a knee to the face followed by a basement flatliner. A second rope twisting senton finally put down The Basic Bitch Slayer once and for all.
Another quality match, the difference in fight styles moulded well together. We had Daisy trying to keep moving, building up that speed to put Rubi off balance whereas Roberts was there to just grab and pound when possible. These two worked well together. It was noted that the crowd started to sway more towards Rubi Roberts as she was trying to get a hold of the slippery Jenkins, almost treating Rubi like the underdog against a more flashy Daisy.
Before the main event we got a video package for Eastern Bloc that was dubbed over by Jan Islav as he was being taught the Bear Claw by Krobar. Fantastic, go check it out.
W3L Heavyweight Championship – Buffa Aayooo defeated Lou Nixon by pinfall to retain the W3L Heavyweight Championship.
Buffa voiced his displeasure of having his music cut off, his whining saw him received several chants including “shitebag” and “shut the f*ck up”. Nixon, despite forgetting his gear, challenged Buffa to put the W3L title on the line, challenge accepted.
After a short grappling exchange, Buffa took a walk around ringside to reset. The strikes were traded, Nixon with some big kicks but he couldn’t avoid a hurricanrana to send him to the outside. Buffa tried to follow up with a dive to the outside but ended up flying into a Lou Nixon kick.
A brawl ensued on the outside but an errant kick from Nixon collided with the ring post which gave Buffa all he needed to find his target for attack. A Dragon Screw to the leg before putting his weight onto the joint grounded Lou Nixon.
Nixon fought back but the work to his leg made everything a little slower which gave Buffa moments to recover. A spinning crane kick and Full Nelson Slam wasn’t enough, Nixon managed a GTS and Ripcord punch to the face but it couldn’t keep Buffa down.
Lou Nixon tried for a Rear Naked Choke but Buffa rolled Nixon through for a pinning combination to retain the W3L Heavyweight Championship.
The foresight to have Buffa be more antagonistic and playing off the crowd with Jan Islav building a groundswell of support on VALOR events has been a stroke of genius. Jan put the challenge out to Buffa on one of the previous episodes so there’s a showdown coming between the two. On paper you would think it would be Buffa, the world travelled veteran getting the crowd on side but the VALOR audience have taken to Eastern Bloc and are all in on Jan and Krobar.
It was a good main event. The crowd were hot against Buffa, and in turn heavily supporting Lou Nixon.
I’ve got no notes on the production, there was some story progression, some teases for upcoming episodes, a bit more personality shown from the characters between matches with the spliced in promotional content. All good stuff.
