It’s been one week since Attitude Pro Wrestling held their first event of 2025, the annual ‘Ruggy Rumble’ hailed once against from the Glencairn Venue in Rutherglen, and the team have already uploaded the full event including the bonus pre-show matches onto YouTube. It would be rude not to have a looky.
VIP Bonus Match – Cowboy Dave Conrad defeated Nick Justice by pinfall.
To the very important people in Rutherglen they got two bonus bouts, kicking off with a policeman and a sheriff having a scrap. The crowd were not a fan of Nick Justice and let him know it by loudly requesting Cowboy Conrad to kick his arse.
Conrad overpowered Justice early on, sending him out of the ring with a clothesline over the top rope. The reset was enough for Justice to hang the Cowboy over the rope by the next as The Big Strong Man offered support from the front row.
The fists were flying, chops exchanged, as the two guys swung wildly. Cowboy Conrad absorbed the punches to launch Justice for a Snake Eyes and bicycle kick but couldn’t land the Polish Hammer which was countered into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count.
A frustrated Nick Justice tried to get Conrad onto his shoulders but found himself on the receiving end of a Spinebuster for another near fall. The punches were once again exchanged with a Sparta kick from Conrad causing a rebounding Nick Justice to run into a Polish Hammer from Cowboy Conrad to end the match.
It wasn’t too fancy, with the match boiling down to a lot of punches back and forth between some of the bigger moves, but the crowd reaction (especially the one guy wanting Conrad to kill Nick Justice) reacted accordingly to the story being laid out.
VIP Bonus Match – CPW Jay Bee Dub Hardcore Championship – Two On One Handicap Match – Jay Bee Dub defeated Legends Never Die (Fulton King & Sami Sparx) by pinfall to retain the CPW Jay Bee Dub Hardcore Championship.
The Jay Bee Dub entrance was interrupted with a Fulton King delivered chair shot to the back as JBD posed on the apron. Legends Never Die went to work battering the CPW Jay Bee Dub Hardcore Champion, battering him at ringside before leathering him with a kendo stick.
A malfunction in the junction lead to JBD getting a hold of a chair which he put to great use, smashing both members of LND with the steel. The brief reprieve didn’t last long with the numbers advantage quickly swinging the momentum back to Legends Never Die.
Jay Bee Dub once again was able to fight back, swinging his leg to low blow Fulton King before planting a charging Sparx with a spinebuster. A seemingly indestructible JBD showed no effects from landing a top rope frog splash onto a prone Sami Sparx who was covered with a chair.
The chair offense continued with a Coast To Coast but the follow up pinfall was interrupted by a cane swinging Sami Sparx, who brought a baggie of Lego and poured onto the mat. A Full Nelson Slam from Fulton King and frog splash from Sparx wasn’t their lot as an attempted Punk Tactics was interrupted by Daro who knocked Sami out of the ring which allowed JBD to throw a chair at King and set up a close quarters senton to pin the juggernaut.
A plunder filled brawl.
The Music Man arrived to open the main show for a sing song, it went a little bit long and it started to feel like an Aunty Donna sketch. Saqib Ali stormed out as he had enough, wanting The Music Man to get in the kiln clearly.
Kayden X defeated Saqib Ali by pinfall.
Ali failed to overpower Kayden in the early going, running into a brick wall before being sent into the ropes to receive a hard lariat, throwing the veteran around. It took a cheeky eye rake for Saqib to gain control, and a high knee to knock down the youngster.
Saqib continued the attack, targeting the knees, and wearing down Kayden. A Figure Four Leglock attempt was countered which allowed Kayden X to fire up with some big clotheslines but the slam attempt was stopped by his knee giving out. Ali countered with a DDT but ran into a Black Hole Slam to give Kayden the victory.
His celebrations were short lived with Saqib chopping the knee again, only to be stopped by a couple showstopping chokeslams from The Music Man.
A solid match, the crowd loved Kayden X, and he showed a lot of character, charisma, and most importantly was in the match. Having to use Saqib’s own running momentum to carry through into the Black Hole Slam was coupled with him being unable to do it moments earlier on his own steam due to the punishment his left knee suffered during the match was a great story beat.
Renzo Rose defeated E-Town by pinfall.
Rose took his sweet time to begin, antagonising the fans while E-Town was getting them all amped up with some dancing. We eventually got going with E-Town busting out a nice monkey flip and sending Renzo Rose all over the place with some agility.
Renzo put a stop to it by slamming E-Town’s neck onto his knee to ground the cruiserweight, then using his power to bully his opponent around the ring. E-Town dodged a corner rush, and built up some offense, including a blatant low blow. Rose’s low blow was less obvious as he was sandwiched in the corner between the referee and E-Town. A knee to the skull was all for Renzo Rose to get the three count.
A short match with a sudden end. The Seventh Circle arrived to surround the ring before attacking Rose, sending him into the ring post. Mr Wanderer arrived to get Renzo checked on. Mr Wanderer announced that The Big Strong Man sitting front row, after some back and forth, would be the big strong replacement in the Ruggy Rumble but would go in at number one.
The match was fine, just brisk and felt like it was just a set up for the post-match attack and getting The Big Strong Man to be entered into the Ruggy Rumble match.
Manky Frankie Richards defeated Nathan Black by pinfall.
Nathan Black shrieked at the crowd, the cliff notes being that he didn’t care and that everyone was ugly. Enough to have them blowing the roof off the venue when Manky Frankie made his way out as Black’s opponent.
Richards used his raw power to throw Black around as he hilariously shouted that he was sorry and that he loved Scotland before being slammed to the mat. The brawl went to the outside as Frankie took sips of beer and smacked about Nathan Black.
It took a gouge to the eyes from Black to gain the advantage, who showed his own power by muscling Frankie over with a suplex, keeping on top of the action with another rake of the eyes to keep Richards on the back foot. Richards was able to get some space, throwin Black over his shoulder to escape a rear chinlock, planting him with a spinebuster for a near fall.
The fight continued, a draping stump piledriver could only get Nathan Black another two count, but Richards fought out of a fireman’s carry to hoist Black up for a Manky Bomb for the win.
This was a bit chaotic but in a good way, Nathan Black was a great villain whether it was begging for mercy, wanting help from the crowd he just spent the time calling ugly, or cockily badmouthing everyone when he was in the driving seat. Coupled by the love that Manky Frankie was getting in the Glencairn Venue it made for a brilliant combination. No shades of grey here, everyone wanted Nathan Black to get battered. Great match.
APW Scottish Championship – Triple Threat – Ravie Davie defeated Eric Young, and Mr Wanderer by pinfall to retain the APW Scottish Championship.
Mr Wanderer ran his mouth before Eric Young had enough, joining up with Davie to knock the specky hotdog to the outside.
Davie got the better of Young in the early going, while also sending Wanderer flying out of the ring for a second time. Following a reset Young got rocking and rolling but a returning Wanderer played spoiler, rushing Davie into Young and immediately taking it to his long time rival.
A desperation backbreaker gave Davie the space to recover, landing a punch-chop-kick combo, before driving Wanderer to the mat with a Blockbuster. It was only good for a near fall as Wanderer dodged a springboard moonsault.
Eric Young returned Burberry hat adorned, but his flurry ended with Wanderer hitting the ropes to crotch a top turnbuckled Young. Davie broke up the pin, Wanderer low blowed Davie but the count was stopped due to Wanderer trying to use the ropes to leverage the fall.
Davie gave a low blow of his own and a springboard moonsault later had him retaining the APW Scottish Championship.
A fast paced match with plenty happening. Eric Young was almost an afterthought as he didn’t add anything extra for being Eric Young as he was in the background of the pre-existing Wanderer-Davie situation. That being said though, Eric looked to be having a blast getting involved in the specky hotdog banter and was silky smooth in whatever he was involved in including a graceful standing dropkick that saw him float on air.
An enraged Mr Wanderer then announced that Davie would now defend the APW Scottish Championship in the Ruggy Rumble. Davie faked out smashing Wanderer with the belt as he wandered into an Eric Young piledriver.
APW Scottish Women’s Championship – Rubi Roberts defeated Alfiee w/DeeDee by pinfall to retain the APW Scottish Women’s Championship.
Roberts used her power early on to move Alfiee around to her will, with Alfiee having to out manoeuvre Rubi to send her to the outside.
Rubi switched her tactics to mind games, grabbing DeeDee at ringside to distract and breakdown Alfiee mentally. Which worked, as Rubi went back to using her strength to punish Alfiee with clubbing blows and suplexes.
Grabbing DeeDee a second time, and stamping on their neck, was a mistake as Alfiee fired up, landing kicks and going feral in her attack on Roberts. Alfiee kicked out of a trio of suplexes but couldn’t finish the job with a shining wizard.
The Seventh Circle arrived again, grabbing DeeDee which caused enough of a distraction for Rubi to grab Alfiee for a spinning neckbreaker to keep a hold of the APW Scottish Women’s Championship.
The masked group presented Roberts with a mask, which was accepted.
It was a fine match. Some moments were a little stop-start but nothing too egregious.
APW Scottish Championship – Ruggy Rumble – The Big Strong Man WINS the APW Scottish Championship.
Ravie Davie and The Big Strong Man kicked off as already revealed from Mr Wanderer’s rantings earlier in the show for a split crowd reaction. Davie wrestled the opening few minutes while live streaming on TikTok… which was different.
Chip Watson was the first to go by way of Nathan Black interrupting a Salt N Vinegar Elbow and sending him over the top rope to the floor. Let the flags go half mast for such a tragedy. The Music Man shook, rattled, and rolled out but was quickly bundled out after a low blow from Saqib Ali who was next to be dispatched by Kayden X as the eliminations came fast with Kayden and Nathan Black sent to the back in quick succession.
Fulton King awkwardly chokeslammed Jay Bee Dub out as he became the resident big man but he was cut down to size in the middle of a domino effect (and award winning) Itchy Bum Diver from Cousin Zander.
As Legends Never Die made their exit, the entrants got bigger with Big Ross Hauser making his way out for a Termination Z and Govan Team stare down. The collision ultimately saw all four eliminated which included the APW Scottish Champion Ravie Davie. The two teams brawled to the back.
After the shock of Davie being eliminated the ring began to fill up once more, with The Big Strong Man being the only man left from the first half of the field.
Vanity harnessed the pure explosive power of Robb Stow, picking up the scraps on his destruction to throw out Bryan Mojo and Steg, but were more than happy to send Robb into the rampaging path of Cowboy Dave Conrad.
As entrants started to run out the unlikely alliances formed with Vanity assisting Nick Justice to eliminate Conrad, and The Big Strong Man striking a friendship with E-Town for some shenanigans.
Magic Dave pulling off a card trick in a rumble match might just be the greatest thing I’ve ever seen, throwing the deck at Nick Justice with the three of hearts coming out of Nick’s mouth. True wizardry. His next trick, with some assistance from Thatcher Wright, was to disappear out of the Ruggy Rumble over the top rope.
The ever popular Manky Frankie dispatched Vanity to an almighty roar as the crowd were fully behind Richards. The Seventh Circle returned and didn’t take too kindly to Thatcher Wright trying to call the shots as they quickly ganged up on Maggie’s forgotten son.
Despite getting rid of The Seventh Circle, Eric Young’s rumble visit was over in a matter of seconds thanks to Nick Justice as Mr Wanderer entered at number 30 to complete the field. Five men were left all vying to become the new APW Scottish Champion. Wanderer chucked out E-Town to make it four.
Wanderer thought he won it after dumping Manky Frankie Richards shortly after Frankie removed Nick Justice from the running, but he forgot about one man, one Big Strong Man who dragged his big strong body back into the ring.
The Big Strong Man kept fighting but a cutter laid him out. Mr Wanderer went for a chair but was stopped by Manky Frankie who drove the chair into the back of Wanderer. Wanderer ran into a Big Strong Spear and thrown out by The Big Strong Man to crown a new APW Scottish Champion.
A hell of a fun rumble match with a popular winner. As far as fan favourite winners the only other guy that may have got an even bigger reaction would have been Manky Frankie but his role in finally standing up to Mr Wanderer was his moment to shine. The Big Strong Man went coast to coast like butter on toast to lift the gold.
One guy that I really enjoyed throughout his tenure in the bout was Nick Justice, who had a great presence. Nathan Black also stood out in the early portion with his sheer charisma.
Overall a good show, the Ruggy Rumble match provided plenty entertaining parts and a feel good winner. The undercard matches were a bit short with sharp endings on the most part but that can be an issue when fitting in a 30 man rumble match onto the show. Nathan Black against Manky Frankie was the highlight of the first half though as the two big characters had the audience in the palm of their hands.
