A new upload hit the Community Pro Wrestling Patreon channel this week with their recent debut in Holytown being released. It was a stripped back event, allowing the main roster and Scottish wrestlers to shine in front of a loud and captive audience.
Ravie Davie defeated Ronan King by pinfall.
Davie encouraged everyone to shout “dafty” at King who stormed off, dragging out the referees 10 count to an 8 before deciding to step back in. It was the Ravie Davie show with laughs, wet willys, count alongs, and all sorts of shenanigans to rattle Ronan.
It looked to be over quite quickly with a release vertical suplex and a Lisbon Lionsault but King wisely made his escape to stop the momentum from Ravie Davie in its tracks, goading The Fresh Prince of Drumoyne Square to the ropes to be hung up and booted at ringside.
An inflatable hammer gave Davie some space but his re-entry to the ring was cut off by another boot to the side of the head and then was levelled by a hard lariat for a near fall. Davie fought out of a pumphandle position, throwing punches and a Pele Kick to turn the tide.
Ronan kicked out of a Blockbuster, dodging another Lisbon Lionsault attempt to land that pumphandle Samoan Drop but Davie got his shoulder up at the last millisecond. King hoisted Davie up into a Fireman’s Carry but it was wriggled out of and countered with a backbreaker. A running headbutt to the chest left Ronan down long enough for the Lionsault to finally connect to give Ravie Davie the win.
A crowd pleasing opening match, they were along for the chants and the pantomime aspect of everything from loudly booing the villain and putting their hearts and souls into cheering for the hero of the piece. In-ring it was simple, nothing needed to be complicated because the fan reaction was there in spades.
I love the explosive fire that Ronan King has, he seems to thrive off being an absolute bastard, stoking the flames at any opportunity as he maximises his moments especially when he comes up against a big fan favourite.
Mr Wanderer defeated Cowboy Dave Conrad by pinfall.
In the battle of the catchy entrance themes, it was The Wanderer versus The Gambler. Conrad overpowered the initial lock ups, throwing Wanderer around like a sack of tatties. After being clotheslined to the outside, Wanderer tried to take the brawl to the outside but found himself chopping the metal ring post.
A swift kick to the second rope while Conrad tried to get back into the ring had the momentum wander over, with Wanderer targeting the back of the cowboy with big Irish Whips into the corners. After exposing the turnbuckle, there was some jaw jacking with the referee that allowed Conrad to recover, striking hard but his Polish Hammer swing was dodged for the Cowboy to be twisted with a Fisherman’s Neckbreaker that got a two count.
Conrad slammed Wanderer down with an Arn Anderson style spinebuster but couldn’t keep Wanderer down who came back with a cutter. A powerslam from Conrad only got a two when Wanderer writhed around before Dave could hook the leg which got a foot on the rope. As Dave plead his case it allowed for Wanderer to run him into the exposed turnbuckle for a School Boy roll up, using the ropes for leverage as insult to injury.
A good callback to return to the exposed turnbuckle, and with the foot on the ropes thwarting Conrad still fresh on the mind for Wanderer to then do the same with no repercussion was effective in causing the desired outrage when the three count was made. Of the match itself, the big cartoonish reactions from Wanderer heightened parts, his shrill skirling put more jeopardy into what Conrad was doing. I feel like Dave Conrad still struggles with getting that emotional connection with the audience past his entrance music but being in with outlandish characters makes it less noticable.
Mr Wanderer tried to knock Cowboy Conrad out with the Ticket To The Top briefcase after the match but missed and felt a Polish Hammer before being thrown out to be sent wandering to the back.
CPW Tag Team Championships – The Big Strong Kings (The Big Strong Man & Nick Justice) defeated The Govan Team (Cousin Zander & Steg) by pinfall to win the CPW Tag Team Championships.
The first half main event featured the odd couple pairing of The Big Strong Man and Nick Justice against the CPW Tag Team Champions, the very popular Cousin Zander and Steg, The Govan Team.
There was a big strong reaction for The Big Strong Man, with Nick Justice trying to piggyback off the cheers to no avail. Justice refused to tag in The Big Strong Man as the bell sounded which lead to him to be sent flying by Steg which had him reconsider his choices.
Much like their fellow Govan Team member Ravie Davie, Steg and Zander brought the tomfoolery to put Nick Justice on the back foot with a barrage of double team moves. Justice managed to weather the storm to bring back The Big Strong Man for some tandem offense of their own.
A leapfrog suddenly saw Steg crumple to the ground clutching his ankle and, despite being goaded to attack the injury, The Big Strong Man refused with Justice gladly taking a whiff of the blood in the water to isolate his injured opponent.
Steg finally got some separation to bring Cousin Zander in to rampage but an eye rake lead to him planting the referee with a Michinoku Driver in the ruckus. Justice took advantage to piledrive Zander on the apron but The Big Strong Man wasn’t happy with this which gave Steg a lifeline to dive through the ropes to take out The Big Strong Kings.
Justice didn’t hesitate to grab the ankle to neutralise Steg, wrapping a chair over his back before placing it around the injured ankle. The Big Strong Man protested, taking a second chair away but Justice had a third to hand and smashed the steel over the ankle for a con-chair-to.
Medical staff and crew helped Steg to the back with Cousin Zander returning enraged, blasting through The Big Strong Kings and sending The Big Strong Man flying with a spear through Justice. A Michinoku Driver to The Big Strong Man finally had the referee regain conscious, but in the time it took for him to drag himself over to make the count, The Big Strong Man got his big strong shoulder up.
The Big Strong Man managed to hit a spear to Zander but Justice tagged himself in for a Death Valley Driver but couldn’t keep The People’s Cousin down. Some miscommunication saw a big strong forearm planted across the face of Nick Justice, who left the ringside area in a huff.
Zander picked up The Big Strong Man, but a big strong roll up counter gave The Big Strong Kings the big strong title win.
Nick Justice quickly returned to claim his prize, but as The Big Strong Man celebrated he turned around into a double arm DDT from Justice and an emerging Monstrum, with James Erdos in tow, crushed The Big Strong Man with a chokeslam.
Justice handed Monstrum one of the tag team titles, but Magic Dave stormed from the timekeepers area and declared the titles vacant. Ravie Davie entered to announce that The Big Strong Man would challenge for the GSOW Championship against Nick Justice at their next event.
The pacing got chaotic with a lot of ideas flying around, the Steg injury, an eternal ref bump, partner walk out, post match attack, a lot was happening. The dynamic of Nick Justice and The Big Strong Man was good but it got murky when paired against a fan favourite juggernaut like The Govan Team. The naivety of The Big Strong Man got pushed to the limits between him being on board with The Big Strong Kings, to then being conflicted about how Nick Justice was operating, then back on board. It was a lot to take in. The wrestling was solid, but the psychology got too busy for me.
What I will say though, kids love The Big Strong Man, they roared in support for everything and detested Nick Justice from the get go so purely from an entertainment stand point it all worked.
Abbie w/Ellie Armstrong, Kev.i.n, & Martin MacAlistair defeated Nicole Jasmin by pinfall.
Abbie went low to start off with, a kick to the stomach looked to have the early advantage but she was soon in the corner awaiting a handspring back elbow. Martin MacAlistair jumped onto the apron to cause a distraction which allowed Ellie Armstrong to push Abbie, who had been caught from a crossbody by Nicole, to land on top for the pin.
Armstrong immediately rained punches down on on Jasmin which brought out E-Town to make the save, The Renegade Wrex arrived to overwhelm E-Town and Nicole Jasmin with the numbers only for Big Ross Hauser to make his way out to smash some folk and settle things down into a tag team match.
Nicole Jasmin, Big Ross Hauser, & E-Town defeated Planet A (Martin MacAlistair & Abbie), & The Renegade Wrex w/Ellie Armstrong & Kev.i.n by pinfall.
Big Ross started off strong, overpowering MacAlistair who quickly brought in The Renegade Wrex who suffered the same fate. Ross tagged in E-Town, but thanks to some timely interference from Armstrong, he was on the wrong side of town with Planet A and Wrex entering him into the isolation station.
E-Town finally got the tag to Hauser who ran roughshod, sending MacAlistair colliding into Ellie Armstrong on the apron, throwing Martin overhead with a Fallaway Slam, and inside out with a lariat. Abbie tried to get involved but Ross tagged in Jasmin to drive Abbie face first to the canvas with an X-Factor to pick up the victory.
The opening match/segment felt really awkward with some logic lacking. When it moved onto the six person tag it became more of a party bout where stuff and things happened with the good guys winning in the end. Nothing too wild, just a bit of feel good vibes.
Danny Miller defeated Kayden Cross by pinfall.
A rabid Danny Miller went straight after Kayden Cross from the opening bell. Not intimidated by the height or weight disadvantage the lad was feral in not giving Cross a second to catch his breath. Kayden fought off the onslaught by being able to knock Miller down but Danny just kept coming back.
From a collision in the corner, Miller got Cross down to the ground and targeted the knee. Cross powered through to cannonball into Danny as he was prone in the corner, with Miller coming back with a sunset flip from the opposite corner for a near fall.
Miller kept going for a running knee with Cross managing to dodge a couple times. Danny grabbed the referee to stop being thrown for a German Suplex and in the fracas hit a low blow to finally finish the job with that running knee.
Danny Miller showed incredible intensity, after the match he slowly tore apart a fans sign while making direct eye contact just to cement how deplorable this guy is. The confidence level in him is off the charts with his in-ring quality being high. He was not deterred in the slightest by the loud positive fan reception for Kayden Cross, if anything it looked like it just increased his energy levels as he kept throwing hands, nipping away viciously, and made every attempt at offense from Cross a struggle. Excellent work. It was a quick match but everything that needed to be put forward was done so effectively.
HWFG Jay Bee Dub Hardcore Championship – Thorin defeated Caleb Valhalla by pinfall to win the HWFG Jay Bee Dub Hardcore Championship.
It was a strange turn of events to see Caleb Valhalla booed, but the crowd were all in on Thorin who took the fight to Valhalla from the opening bell.
Thorin tried to pick up the pace with Caleb doing what he could to put a stop to any momentum quickly. A run into the ring post gave Valhalla the opening to have his way with Thorin, smashing him around ringside methodically.
Back in the ring, Caleb continued the onslaught, throwing Thorin around and splashing him in the corner before slamming him hard onto the mat for a near fall. A quick kick and second rope moonsault swung the axe of momentum back to Thorin who managed to get out of the way of a corner splash, sending Valhalla off the apron and crashing to the floor with a dropkick.
The groundswell of support continued for Thorin as he managed to get out of a Helride attempt and muscled Valhalla up and over for a back suplex. Caleb returned with a release Fireman’s Carry to send Thorin violently ricocheting off the canvas.
A battle on the second rope saw a back suplex attempt from Caleb Valhalla countered into a crossbody to leave both laid out while the referee started to administer a ten count. When both returned to their feet it was a dog fight of punches back and forth, Thorin jumped up for a enziguri to send Caleb looking for safety on the second rope, a 619 attempt saw Valhalla fire back, catching the legs of Thorin and hoisting up with White Noise for another two count.
Caleb went to end the match with a Jackhammer but Thorin kicked the knee out to drop Valhalla down to one leg, landing a further superkick to put Caleb back in position for a 619 which connected. A final running knee kept the mighty Caleb Valhalla down for three.
A fun main event that sent the audience home happy. There was a good bit of back and forth with Thorin certainly managing to engage the fans to support his quest to defeat the muscle bound god. Though he wasn’t out and out a bad guy, it was great to see a different side of Caleb Valhalla with him primarily being a fun loving warrior when I’ve had a chance to see him wrestle but this time he spent a good percentage of the match as a predator playing with his prey.
For a first run out to Holytown this was an enjoyable event. Once again, for me, Danny Miller stood out and I’m looking forward to seeing that progression as his wrestling journey continues. The opening and closing matches were really good with some wobbly moments in the middle but overall an easy watch.
