In the process of writing up my recent ‘Havoc In Holytown’ review, Community Pro Wrestling only went and uploaded their most recent event ‘Belfast And Furious’ to their Patreon channel. Taking place in Pollock, the events of Holytown were still fresh in mind, the CPW Tag Team Championships were vacant, the new attitude of Danny Miller was unleashed, The Big Strong Man finally saw the light when it came to his big strong friendship with Nick Justice, and all that was mixed in with a visit from wrestlers from Ireland’s Titanic Wrestling for some cross-brand promotion.

Pre-show – Danny Miller defeated Bryan Mojo by pinfall.

It was a sparse crowd in the pre-show for a bonus bout between two of the hotly tipped standouts from the Glasgow School of Wrestling. The two had a quick back and forth exchange, with Bryan Mojo getting the better of Danny Miller as the pace sped up.

Miller rolled out to avoid a standing moonsault and used the interruption to the gathering momentum to catch Bryan as he made his way over to the apron. Danny swept the leg and took control, landing punches to the ribs. Somewhere along the way, Mojo started bleeding from the mouth.

A missed flying headbutt gave Bryan Mojo a lifeline, trading forearms before Mojo cracked Miller with an enziguri to unlock a second wind with a flurry of offense, scoring a near fall following a standing shooting star press.

Just it looked like Bryan was on his way to win with a dive from the top turnbuckle, Miller pushed the referee into the ropes to cause Mojo to lose balance with Danny taking advantage for a pin with two feet on the ropes for good measure.

This was a really good match, there were some wobbles but the base of something to build upon was definitely there. Despite being in front of a smaller audience on the pre-show, Bryan Mojo managed to get an atmosphere going with the chicanery from Danny Miller garnering a resounding negative reaction. These two are ones to keep an eye on.

I can see this being a match revisited more than once in the future with the quality ramping up with each and every battle.

CPW Tag Team Championship Tournament – Semi Final – The Govan Team (Ravie Davie & Cousin Zander) defeated The Stars Aligned (CJ Mohan & Stu Parker) by pinfall to advance.

Mohan and Parker didn’t waste any time, jumping The Govan Team as they made their way out. Beating down Davie and Zander while The Govan Team’s music still played.

Once it got into the ring Davie managed to get a string of moves together to knock down The Stars Aligned but with Zander still groggily making his way back to the apron, the numbers took over with Davie being isolated with quick tags by the Irishmen.

The Pollock crowd loudly offered support for The Govan Team, energising Ravie Davie but a float over DDT by CJ Mohan stopped the momentum. The Stars Aligned continued the tandem offense while Zander could only look on. Eventually Davie managed to make his way to The People’s Cousin who ran wild through Mohan and Parker.

The Govan Team attempted a double team but Zander was sent crashing into Davie while on the top turnbuckle to send his head skelping off the mat. A double Russian leg sweep-lariat combo was broken up by Zander, Davie then dispatched Parker with Mohan suffering an Itchy Bum Diver followed by a Lisbon Lionsault to send The Govan Team into the final.

A highly entertaining opener with the crowd loving The Govan Team which is the norm for Community Pro Wrestling events. The Stars Aligned jumping Davie and Zander at the start made them so easily hated, the array of tag team offense that Parker and Mohan showcased was great, and these two teams worked well together.

Team Titanic (Rocky Starr, Gary Gibson, JDP, & Madame Director) defeated Team CPW (Martin MacAlistair, Nicole Jasmin, CJ West, & Kayden Cross) by pinfall.

Martin MacAlistair bravely stepped in for an injured Kev.i.n, but that was after a humiliating dressing down of Kev for coming out despite not being cleared or checking in with the head of Planet A, Ellie Armstrong, and he was escorted out of the ring by fellow Planet A member Abbie.

Kayden Cross started off taking it to Team Titanic, throwing Gary Gibson and Rocky Starr around before tagging Nicole Jasmin in to deal with Madame Director. A back and forth left no clear winner with both tagging out to set up Kayden standing across from JDP for a battle of the big lads.

Thanks to some timely interference from Rocky Starr, JDP got the jump that kept Kayden in the corner of Team Titanic for the quartet to take turns laying in the boots and forearms to Cross. A spirited comeback from Kayden lead him to just about slam JDP and get CJ West tagged in.

A fresh West ran rings around Starr, Gibson, and JDP but a little too much celebrating from a double axe handle allowed Gibson to lay West out with an Uranage. Nicole Jasmin and Madame Director went after each other again as brawls broke out around ringside between the two teams.

The referee’s counts were for naught as the bodies flew around. As it started to settle CJ was surrounded by Team Titanic, he valiantly fought them off to extend an arm out to Martin MacAlistair… who dropped from the apron and left West to the wolves. A splash from JDP began West’s night heading South with a twisting DDT from Rocky Starr putting the finishing touches onto Team Titanic’s victory.

It was a little bit of chaos, the match kept moving and Rocky Starr stood out from the pack, everything he did came with an extra slice of control and finesse. The nice, albeit expected, twist of Martin walking away was met with visceral booing was timed to perfection. It is so weird seeing the Planet A version of Martin MacAlistair, but he looks very relaxed in the role of the villain.

A dejected CJ West sat in the ring and watched the combatants leave but neglected to spot Martin MacAlistair stalking him, MacAlistair jumped West and with the assistance of Abbie, wrapped a chair around the ankle of CJ to stomp on but not before punching a protesting Kev.i.n in the injured shoulder just to add an extra level of bastardry to his actions.

CPW Tag Team Championship Tournament – Semi Final – Vanity (Judas Grey & Ronan King) defeated Thorin & E-Town by pinfall to advance.

Vanity riled up the Pollock crowd but their postulating lead Judas Grey to walk into a barrage of attacks from Thorin, sending him flying with arm drags. E-Town got in on the action with the thrown together duo getting the better of their opponents early on.

An eye rake from Grey allowed him to muscle Thorin into the Vanity corner for them to take advantage. They bullied Thorin around but an enziguri to Ronan King allowed for E-Town to be brought back into the fold, hoisting Ronan over for a Fisherman’s suplex for a two count.

Judas returned to turn the tide back to Vanity, as he and King planted Thorin with a wheelbarrow facebuster-springboard elbow drop combo. A follow up was stopped by E-Town which gave the team some hope with a rattling off of offense, an enziguri followed by a Codebreaker to Ronan should have been the end, but The Renegade Wrex pulled the referee out to stopped a pinfall attempt that lead to Thorin chasing off his former tag team partner.

Grey and King didn’t waste time, Judas kicked E-Town into the ropes to set up a back cracking senton with Ronan putting the finishing touches to the contest, landing a dunking big splash from the top to seal Vanity’s place in the finals.

A fine match, with the tag team dynamic favouring Vanity but Thorin and E-Town managed to put forward some combinations of their moveset to be effective. The in-ring was solid, Vanity continue to be a top quality tag team with little flourishes to undermine their opponents like Judas sarcastically counting with the referee’s five count as he digged into Thorin.

There wasn’t too much by way of jeopardy though, and with The Govan Team winning earlier it felt more like a foregone conclusion. Again the crowd were well into it with a good number of fans emulating the E-Town dance scattered around.

Steven Carvel defeated Mr Wanderer by disqualification.

Mr Wanderer strode out with his Ticket To The Top briefcase but his cool demeanour was undone with a loud “specky hotdog” chant, a chant that tickled Steven Carvel.

The stocky Carvel threw Wanderer around early on, sending him flying with judo throws and hip tosses. Wanderer escaped to the outside and attempted to bring Carvel with him, an eye rake almost gave Wanderer a shot of offense but a missed chop that saw his hand clash with the metal ring post had him screaming.

Wanderer bided his time, shoving the referee out of the way and kicking the second rope while Carvel re-entered out of sight of the official to begin his campaign. Carvel was on the backfoot, fighting back as a demented Wanderer tried to finish his opponent off.

Carvel returned with a couple lariats but it was no dice on the three count, Wanderer fired back with a Fisherman’s neckbreaker for another near fall to his shock. A gutbuster from Steven Carvel had the match going his way, with a second rope lariat landing, it was a foot on the rope that broke the follow up pin attempt.

‘The View’ aimed to make Mr Wanderer’s view the lights with a uranage style sitout spinebuster but Wanderer got out of dodge and hit a low blow in front of the referee to cause the disqualification.

Much like in Holytown, Wanderer tried to swing the briefcase post match but after another evasion of the spinebuster, Kayden Cross arrived to throw Wanderer back into the ring and get his just desserts, with that dessert being his spine busted off the mat.

A decent match, Steven Carvel looked impressive with a proper old school Harley Race vibe but throwing in some modern twists that was digested by the CPW fans quickly. I’d love to see him come up against a Robb Stow for example as a proper hoss fight. It did help that Mr Wanderer is so easily disliked with his cretinous antics and specky hotdog status.

CPW Heavyweight Championship – Big Ross Hauser defeated Umar Mohammed by pinfall to retain the CPW Heavyweight Championship.

It was duck and move for Umar Mohammed as he aimed to rattle Big Ross early on, a hard slap to the face was responded with a Hauser big boot to lay out The Asian Sensation. Mohammed managed to get Big Ross down with a headscissor but once Hauser was back on his feet he chopped and swiped away the offense of Umar Mohammed with relative ease.

Ross went to finish the match with a chokeslam but Umar countered with a DDT which could only muster a two count. Mohammed tried to bring his clapper board into the fray and, with the referee distracted in disposing of the board, Umar kicked Hauser between the legs with a low blow and a knee to the side of the head that once again had the champion kick out.

Big Ross had had enough at this point, throttling Umar and raising him up then quickly descending him down with a chokeslam, finishing the match with a momentum built running lariat to keep the title in his possession.

A quick yet heated match. Big Ross Hauser continues to be well loved by the Community Pro Wrestling fans and Umar Mohammed thrived in that environment where he could unleash the over the top villainy that he is very good at. It wasn’t anything fancy but it was well received, proof positive that you could put Umar Mohammed in any position and he makes the scenes sensational. Big Ross continues a dominant reign with no signs of the audience wavering in their support.

GSOW Championship – Nick Justice defeated The Big Strong Man by submission to retain the GSOW Championship.

Nick Justice riled up the crowd before the emergence of his opponent, who responded by stamping their feet and clapping their hands demanding The Big Strong Man to come out and batter the police. The Big Strong Man looked apprehensive as he tried to soak in the adulation from the people of Pollock.

The match opened with Justice grounding The Big Strong Man with a front headlock in an attempt to stop the shenanigans. A wrist lock exchange had Nick Justice fall for the oldest trick in the book as he looked up upon the request of The Big Strong Man to be distracted long enough for a big strong counter into a big strong hip toss.

Justice played on the good nature of The Big Strong Man with a feigned request for a handshake, jumping The Big Strong Man, who came back to administer a big strong ten punch in the corner. Nick Justice wasn’t for playing along, sending The Big Strong Man into the corner sternum first and swinging his big strong knee into the ring post to acquire the target for punishment.

Knee breakers, boots to the joint, figure four leglocks around the ring post, Nick Justice picked apart the limb at ringside to try and gain a count out victory. The Big Strong Man dragged himself into the ring but was slammed with a Death Valley Driver but somehow he got his big strong shoulder up.

The Big Strong Man fired up and, running on pure adrenaline, laid in forearms, before launching Justice up with a Samoan Drop. In all the madness Nick Justice ended up tied up in the ropes to be prone for an absolute skelping.

A spear was interrupted by The Big Strong Man’s knee giving out, allowing Justice to strike with a double arm impaler DDT and fetch a chair to wrap around the ankle of The Big Strong Man, with the intention to swing a second over the contraption. The referee put a stop to it, giving time for The Big Strong Man to recover and drive the chair into the stomach of Justice and land a spear for the nearest of two counts.

Monstrum and James Erdos arrived at ringside, with Erdos sharply receiving a big strong punch in the mouth to send him off the apron into the waiting arms of the monster, which was enough time for Justice to double leg The Big Strong Man to the canvas to put on the Figure Four Leglock. The Big Strong Man managed to grab the bottom rope but Justice didn’t waste a second, and dragged The Big Strong Man back to the middle of the ring and reapplied the hold for the tap out.

The crowd investment was incredible. They were feral for The Big Strong Man and with every near fall they bit so much their teeth went right through. Nick Justice was an unforgiving demon as he went about torturing The Big Strong Man. If that was the latest chapter, the finale will be wild.

CPW Tag Team Championship Tournament – Final – The Govan Team (Ravie Davie & Cousin Zander) defeated Vanity (Judas Grey & Ronan King) by pinfall to win the CPW Tag Team Championships.

Ravie Davie learned from the opening match to not have a mic and kept his eyes open for any pre-match assaults. Vanity offered a handshake but quickly jumped The Govan Team to kick off the main event.

The Govan Team turned the tide with a couple Atomic Drops with a step up swanton dive from the top of the corner ring post that had Ravie Davie crashing down on Grey and King below. The testicular torsion to Ronan continued with a Cousin Zander headbutt, but a timely distraction from Judas Grey allowed for Vanity to regain some momentum.

Zander managed to step out the way of a King-sized big boot that landed across the face of Judas in error, as a consequence to his early interference, which brought Ravie Davie back in to run through Vanity. The action went back and forth with both teams managing to get offense in.

Ronan landed a splash from the top rope but Cousin Zander dragged King off Davie, sending Grey out of the ring and setting up an Itchy Bum Diver-Lisbon Lionsault, which connected even if Davie had to make an adjustment into a standing version of the move. As the count was being made Judas Grey landed a hard senton onto the referee to turn the match into an all out brawl around the hall.

Vanity brought the belts into play, first by knocking out Davie outside the ring then smashing Zander to leave him laying for a big splash-Swanton Bomb combination but The People’s Cousin still managed to kick out which blew the roof off the venue. Ronan lifted Zander up for a waiting Judas Grey perched on the top rope but Davie grabbed the leg of Grey to trap him as Zander rolled through to pin King and win the CPW Tag Team Championships.

Vanity rejected a handshake as The Govan Team celebrated in front of a jubilant Community Pro Wrestling crowd.

A hot main event, The Govan Team were always going to have a big reaction but the level just increased to eleven when they step in against a team that is so arrogant and bullyish in Vanity. Both teams knew what worked to maximise the reaction which was evident when Zander kicked out after the belt shots, it helped that coming off the back of a heartbreaking loss for The Big Strong Man, the vocal young audience needed something to believe in with Zander and Davie being the big loud superheroes coming in to save the day.

You can’t deny that Community Pro Wrestling have built up a loud and invested audience. They were ready for ALL the wrestling and they got a lot of big characters to latch onto and support or jeer with all their souls.

For a slight negative though, there was too much of the referee losing authority or being pushed around. Every match had him lose control or being shoved around or taken out. It puts the rules into question if it happens so frequently and there’s very little by way of comeuppance if every bad guy is so brazen in not listening to the official.

The show itself had some great moments and matches with that character work being the forefront is what makes professional wrestling such a great artform. Even if there were some shaky instances it didn’t matter to most who were wide eyed and glued on the action. I enjoyed seeing some different sides to wrestlers I really enjoy like Umar Mohammed, while discovering new faces to my eyes that I want to see more of like Rocky Starr and Steven Carvel. Whilst also seeing new faces in pro wrestling develop like Danny Miller.

The Community Pro Wrestling events encapsulates that community spirit by allowing fans that might not get a chance to see some of the best wrestlers in Europe in their town whether it’s England, France, or, like on this night, Ireland. A loud night was had in Pollock for another entertaining event.
