West Kintyre Promotions’ annual wrestling event in Tarbert has been uploaded to the the Community Pro Wrestling Patreon, Tarbert has played host to Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum and Clyde Valley Wrestling in the past with Community Pro Wrestling taking their brand of pro wrestling to the Village Hall.
Six matches were confirmed to take place but things didn’t quite go as announced…
The Big Strong Man defeated Jack Bizarre by pinfall.
In what was originally set to be The Big Strong Man against Danny Miller, England’s Jack Bizarre arrived to be on the wrong end of a Scotland-England chant to get the crowd hyped and patriotic. The Big Strong Man held onto a big strong wrist lock with Bizarre’s counter attempts being thwarted early on.
Bizarre took a break on the outside to sucker The Big Strong Man out for a sneaky boot to the stomach but an errant chop collided with the ring post to give Jack more woes. Bizarre took advantage of the referee checking on his hand to hang The Big Strong Man onto the top rope and gain some control, choking The Big Strong Man manically while the Scotland chants rained down.
A big strong comeback was on with a big strong German suplex setting up a big strong spear but Jack Bizarre managed to dodge to send The Big Strong Man into the turnbuckle and prone for a standing senton.
The Big Strong Man fired up again, throwing Jack Bizarre around with T-Bone suplexes. A feral Bizarre threw himself with a headbutt and drove his knee into the skull of The Big Strong Man for a near fall but his quest to finish the job saw Bizarre run into a big strong spear to give The Big Strong Man a hard fought victory.
From what I gather Jack Bizarre is another young product from the Glasgow School of Wrestling. He came in with a lot of confidence, a little rough around the edges, and his presentation was very first day on the job with the black shirt and shorts combo but there is a tremendous amount of potential. Bizarre showed a lot of great character instincts and reactions that were spot on for the situation. His in-ring will tighten up as he fleshes out that side of things, along with his moveset etc., but there was a lot of promise on display.
The Big Strong Man continues to garner great reactions when he hits a Community Pro Wrestling ring, on paper it was a dominant performance but Bizarre managed to make The Big Strong Man work for the win.
Mikey Devine & Hannah Grande defeated Nicole Jasmin & Fabio by pinfall.
The sheer charisma of Fabio had the whole hall erupt into a baldy chant against Mikey Devine who sought refuge with another bald fella in the front row. Devine tried to get some shenanigans going but was Fabio was quick to get the referee looking the other way for a cockshot and dropkick that allowed for Nicole Jasmin to be tagged in for a double team hiptoss.
Hannah Grande got involved for an exchange with Nicole, getting the upper hand with a scurling Thesz Press to put herself and Mikey in charge to isolate Jasmin who fought through to bring Fabio back in to run wild, with giving Mikey a taste of his own medicine with a Six-De-Vine courtesy of Fabio.
Fabio looked to have it all going his tandems way but some divine intervention from Grande distracted Fabio long enough to get crotched on the top turnbuckle, a superkick from Devine allowed Hannah to put the finishing touch to the match with a wheelbarrow bulldog for the pinfall.
A quick match with the opening being high-key pantomime with the over the top antics which I enjoy. Fabio continues to absolutely shine in singles competition. Another relatively new face from the Glasgow School of Wrestling, Hannah Grande, showed some spark but was very reserved in her offense and character, the latter was expressed more once the match actually ended like she managed to breathe out all the pre-match stresses and relax to actually be Hannah Grande, there’s a diamond in there that will be unearthed as she puts the pieces together.
I liked that early on Fabio tapped Devine in the groin to get the upper hand and the roles were reversed to give Mikey’s team the win. Nicole Jasmin and Devine had a solid exchange, I’d not be against seeing that as a one on one down the line.
Ronan King defeated Kayden Cross by pinfall.
King tried to mock Cross early on but a test of strength was his undoing with Kayden overpowering Ronan in the opening exchanges, throwing his weight around to send King flying. Ronan bided his time to push the referee into the corner while Kayden was perched on the second rope to bring him to the canvas and onto his back with a hard lariat.
Ronan tried to bully around a weakened Kayden Cross, who grabbed an attempted punch to lay in chops but King returned the offense, stamping Cross to the ground with a Curb Stomp for a two count. Kayden once again fired back with a lariat of his own, but Ronan hit a running elbow and scaled the rope only to be stopped with a turnbuckle trap superkick then was laid out with a powerbomb that could only muster a near fall.
Cross went back to the second rope but managed to stop King using the referee again and kicked King to the ground. Ronan popped up to gouge his thumbs into the eyes of Kayden then slammed him over head to pick up the victory.
A decent back and forth match before Ronan ultimately took a shortcut to snatch the W. The layer of King going for the same plan twice to use the referee, it being stopped, only for him to have another trick up his sleeve was a nice touch.
CPW Tag Team Championships x APW Tag Team Championships – Tarbert Street Fight – Ravie Davie & Bryan Mojo defeated Mr Wanderer & Danny Miller by pinfall to retain the CPW Tag Team Championships and APW Tag Team Championships.
Due to a very serious finger injury, Cousin Zander found a suitable replacement in Bryan Mojo. After some cajoling from Mr Wanderer, Ravie Davie agreed to defend the CPW and APW Tag Team Championships but under one condition, it was a Tarbert Street Fight.
The chaos started with all four brawling all over the hall, with Davie slamming Miller on the apron with a Uranage as Wanderer and Mojo chopped at each other around ringside. Miller managed to show some great athleticism with a flip out counter before he and Mr Wanderer managed to throw Davie out of a fire escape to leave Bryan Mojo facing a two on one assault.
Not to be deterred, Bryan took it to Wanderer and Miller with a handspring back elbow and dive to the outside but it wasn’t long before the numbers caught up with him. The crowd offered their support as Mojo hung on, an untimely slip from the second rope had Mr Wanderer reeling but his embarrassment just made the resulting punishment to Bryan even more ferocious.
Just as Wanderer was about to knock Mojo’s head off with the Ticket To The Top briefcase, Ravie Davie emerged from the stage and ran through the treacherous duo. Wanderer dodged a missile dropkick, that connected with Miller, to low blow Davie but his cutter attempt to Mojo was countered with a handstand and running shooting star press. Bryan wriggled out of a powerslam from Danny Miller to hoist him onto his shoulders for a Samoan Drop/neckbreaker combo with Davie for The Govan Team to retain.
It was a slow start with the crowd not quite into the street fight off the bat. Once it returned to the ring though the action and atmosphere picked up with Bryan Mojo getting a chance to showcase himself more. There was plenty of character shown as Danny Miller and Bryan Mojo continue to impress.
E-Town & Iona Sky defeated Planet A (Martin MacAlistair & Ellie Armstrong) by submission.
Iona Sky overpowered Ellie Armstrong once the match got underway, sending her into the corner to tag in her fellow plant based warrior Martin MacAlistair to tangle with E-Town who got the better of the Cruiserweight Champion until Ellie inserted herself back in with a distraction.
E-Town managed to return the control to his team with some quick thinking and agility but Armstrong once again made her influence known for Planet A to regain the momentum with MacAlistair methodically stomping away at the joints of E-Town. A missed stomp once again gave E-Town an opening to get a flurry of offense in by MacAlistair was quick to nip that in the bud with a knee to the stomach and suplex for a near fall.
The isolation of E-Town continued with MacAlistair and Armstrong tagging in and out to keep the pressure on the vicious lad, but E-Town finally escaped to tag in Sky who used all that pent up energy to run through Planet A, a modified stunner to Ellie might’ve finished it but she was saved only by Martin breaking up the fall.
A second stunner to Armstrong, and E-Town had one of his own for MacAlistair, left Planet A to be trapped into stereo crossfaces for the tap out. As she made her exit, Ellie got battered by non-recyclable plastic inflatable hammers for an added insult.
A fine match, Iona Sky got a good reaction for the hot tag with the in-ring action being solid. I really enjoy the Planet A tandem of MacAlistair and Armstrong, they play off each other very well. I feel like there could be more with E-Town though, bar the little dance there isn’t too much by way of character shown that might have been hidden when Rocky Ross was on the go as part of The Vicious Lads. Some tweaks here and there perhaps. His wrestling is smooth, just need to get the charisma up with it.
HWFG JBD Hardcore Championship – Fatal Four Way – Thorin defeated Mikey Devine, Fabio, and Judas Grey by pinfall to retain the HWFG JBD Hardcore Championship.
Mikey Devine tried to get a measure of revenge against Fabio from the opening bell but was sent flying over the top rope, only to return to the ring and be superkicked by Thorin to send him back out to recuperate.
The remaining three went at it, which was a bit rough in moments before Mikey once again returned to the equation. Judas fell for the cockshot dropkick combination but Devine was wise to the move having suffered it earlier in the evening, catching the hand of Fabio and driving his head into the stomach to double over the champion. Grey tried to assist for a double team but Fabio countered, teasing another groin tap but Judas and Mikey turned around… only to get a double open hand smack to the arse for their troubles.
Devine and Grey formed a makeshift team, with moderate success, as they managed to catapult Fabio into the ropes and threw Thorin overhead from a crossbody counter as the match broke down with action going thick and fast inside and outside the ring.
Brutale Vanity eventually fell apart, as all tentative alliances go, with Mikey Devine taking an almost errant kick personally and launching a forearm into the face of Judas Grey with Fabio taking advantage with some beautiful cutters to send the duo crashing to the canvas.
The match continued, Mikey Devine bore the brunt of a tower of doom thanks to Thorin, who then sidestepped Judas into hurling himself through the ropes onto Mikey Devine, Thorin dove over the ropes to join the pile. And after flinging Mikey Devine off the stage, Fabio joined in with a crossbody onto the trio.
A second rope cutter to Grey got the closest of three counts for Fabio. Grey caught Fabio from a crossbody but his fireman’s carry was countered with Judas getting stung with a poisonrana at the conclusion of the back and forth. The bodies were flying with all four men laid out on the mat to reset.
Fabio and Judas were soon at it once again, with a Grey just about managing to send Fabio off the second rope into Mikey Devine while simultaneously dropkicking Thorin. It wasn’t the cleanest but got a round of applause from the Tarbert crowd.
Thorin eventually got the best of a dog pile with a swanton to pin Judas Grey to take home the HWFG Hardcore Championship.
An action packed fatal four way. It got messy in parts with some ideas not quite landing as flush as probably envisioned but still had a good amount of great stuff happening. The callback to the earlier tag match with Mikey Devine and Fabio was great, the Fabio and Judas Grey interactions were very good, give me that one on one, and the makeshift team of Judas and Mikey was a fun time. Despite winning, Thorin was a little bit lost in the shuffle and missing for a good chunk of the match. The sheer charisma and fire of Fabio throughout the match potentially overshadowed Thorin’s victory and it didn’t get as big as a reaction as maybe hoped.
CPW Heavyweight Championship – Big Ross Hauser defeated James Erdos by pinfall to retain the CPW Heavyweight Championship.
For a self proclaimed intelligent wrestler, James Erdos sure liked to be ran through by Big Ross, who brushed off punches, clotheslines, and headlocks with ease. A big swing left both a bit dizzy but Hauser shook it off to give Erdos the wet trackie treatment.
Erdos finally showed his cunning, seeking refuge under the ring to launch a sneak attack by chopping the knee of Big Ross, which became his point of attack. As the match returned to the ring Erdos jarred the joint off the mat, and was doing all he could to keep the champion grounded.
Which seemed to work for the most part, the sluggishness to move from Hauser allowed Erdos to pick apart the left knee, aiming pointed elbows, and wrenching away, adding additional pressure via an ankle lock. Ross rolled out of the hold and slowly fired back by throwing his own body with short bursts of energy, and slamming Erdos down with a back suplex.
A spin around Russian Leg Sweep, the second time of asking, netted Erdos a one count that he argued with the referee about. In the kerfuffle, he managed to low blow Hauser and marched over to swipe the CPW Heavyweight Championship. Iona Sky returned to grab the title, which left Erdos stumbling into a chokeslam to notch another successful title defence for Big Ross Hauser.
There were some disjointed moments and miscommunication but it was an okay match with the crowd gravitating towards Big Ross and happily threw their support behind him.
Overall it was a fine show, Danny Miller and Bryan Mojo keep showing why they are highly regarded prospects from the Glasgow School of Wrestling and the new faces, Hannah Grande and Jack Bizarre, showed some promise by being flung into the deep end. Fabio once again stole the show with two top quality performances. It was a fun opener, some decent matches with the fatal four way being really good, and we got a feel good end with Tarbert’s own Iona Sky saving the day. Not a bad night.
As far as standalone events go, this provided an entertaining event and that’s considering the sheer amount of changes to the announce card for one reason or another with only one match actually happening as announced (Big Ross Hauser versus James Erdos). It didn’t affect the crowd enjoyment who were raring to go from the off.
