Despite being a few shows behind in my Community Pro Wrestling Patreon watching and reviewing, here I am checking out their most recent upload which is out of cannon from the main CPW events. Ravie Davie’s Glasgow School of Wrestling went on the road to Drumchapel featuring students and main roster CPW favourites with the special guest being ‘The East End Butcher’ Sha Samuels.
The drawback of the venue at Drumpchapel is a third of the ring is under a lowered wall from the ceiling which restricts some space if anyone over 5’10” wants go on their tip toes.
The handful that opted for VIP tickets saw Big Ross Hauser open up a gauntlet for anyone that wanted to be terminated. First up, Jynxx skanked their way out to a ska remix of Welcome To The Black Parade.
Pre-show – Big Ross Gauntlet Invitational – Big Ross Hauser defeated Jynxx by pinfall.
Awkward chokeslam. Done.
Pre-show – Big Ross Gauntlet Invitational – Big Ross Hauser defeated Logan Monroe by pinfall.
Logan Monroe got some offense but Big Ross brushed it off, pressing Logan up for a military press and dropping him with a powerslam to end his night.
Pre-show – Big Ross Gauntlet Invitational – Big Ross Hauser defeated Chris Frazier by submission.
Chris almost got a move, but his tornado DDT was countered into a bearhug for the submission.
Pre-show – Big Ross Gauntlet Invitational – Big Ross Hauser defeated Jack Bizarre by pinfall.
Jack Bizarre at least had the forethought to sneak attack Hauser, doing better than everyone before him by getting Big Ross down to one knee with an enziguri. Ross tried to counter out of a guillotine choke with a suplex which saw Bizarre wriggle his way free but it wasn’t long before Big Ross Hauser was victorious via a hard clothesline.
It was a thing that happened. Big Ross murdered four of the students with relative ease. This would have been better if it was a bad guy doing it because I don’t think it did much for the opponents or for Ross.
The competitors didn’t even get their names announced. It was very slap dashed.
Ravie Davie & Hannah Grande defeated Planet A (Martin MacAlistair & Abbie) by pinfall.
Kicking off the main show, Ravie Davie started his shenanigans of wet willies and noogies which sent Martin all over the place. MacAlistair tagged out to Abbie for a strange misogynistic turn from Davie who told her that he wanted to get up the road so to just to let the men fight. Abbie rightly responded with a slap to the chops and sent Davie over with a headscissor to send him into his corner to tag in Hannah Grande to rush in.
A timely pratfall from Martin MacAlistair provided a long enough distraction to put Abbie in control, but Grande fought back with an enziguri. As she crawled for the tag, MacAlistair was once again on hand to trip Davie off the apron to stop that plan. Abbie tried to wrangle Hannah, who dove off the second rope with a crossbody for a two count.
Davie and Martin got their respective tags, Davie jabbed and chopped, bringing MacAlistair to the mat with a second rope Blockbuster. The pin was saved by Abbie, and while Davie considered whether he could/should lay a hand on a woman, Abbie had no issues to hit a step up stunner. While Abbie reset herself, Hannah returned with a scissor kick to put her down. Martin tried to get back involved but a wheelbarrow cutter from Grande was finished off with a Lisbon Lionsault from Ravie Davie to get the victory.
Hannah Grande continues to show more personality, she did have some shaky moments but the confidence to try is there with the commitment to throw herself in is evident. I felt like Abbie was super reserved both in charisma and in-ring, there will be a moment that she comes out of her shell but it hasn’t happened yet. Davie and Martin provided solid anchors and a structure to keep everything in line.
Monstrum defeated E-Town by pinfall.
E-Town started off with the bold plan of just annoying Monstrum by running away, dodging, and laughing at the monster. Unfortunately for him, Monstrum got a hold of the mullet and launched E-Town head first into that lower wall.
Wisely after being missiled into the concrete, E-Town did his best to stay out of the way of a stalking Monstrum who grabbed his victim by the leg to drag him back to the hellscape he had created. The crowd threw their support behind E-Town as he barraged Monstrum with forearms, swinging out of a Black Hole Slam attempt to rock the big man with a Codebreaker, getting Monstrum off his feet with a leg drop off the turnbuckle.
An angered Monstrum started ramping up the impact, a Vader Bomb somehow got a two count. Monstrum’s ripcord was countered for E-Town to hit a couple Codebreakers but it wasn’t enough to keep the shoulders down. A hyped up E-Town looked to hit a final blow but ran into a Black Hole Slam to end his night.
A nice match, crowd were heavily behind E-Town and Monstrum was a great horror movie villain. This will sound odd, but Monstrum almost showed too much personality. The visual of the scary mask, black boiler suit, and his towering frame are enough, he doesn’t need to cajole the referee after a two count, he just needs to get back to punishing his opponent.
Rock Star Steve arrived to play Wonderwall but was mercifully interrupted by The Big Strong Man.
The Big Strong Man defeated Rock Star Steve by pinfall.
After some yay-boo crowd interaction, Steve jumped The Big Strong Man and peppered him with strikes to the back. He tried a tackle but ran into a big strong shoulder. The Big Strong Man continued to make Rock Star Steve look the fool for laughs.
The Big Strong Man called for a big strong finish but his scoop slam was slid out of for Steve to take a breather on the outside. Once back in Steve dodged a corner rush to hang up BSM on the top rope to try and get something going, only to have his suplex countered into a big strong suplex.
A big strong clothesline and big strong slam had Rock Star Steve prone for a big strong spear but it was missed. Steve hit a front facelock DDT and tried to bring in his guitar that was stopped by the referee. A rush from the corner, I assume for some Sweet Chin Music, was cut off with a big strong spear for the big strong win.
The crowd made plenty of noise, firmly on board The Big Strong Man train. Though the in-ring wasn’t the best with limbs all over the place, Rock Star Steve wasn’t afraid to express himself and that confidence is an important factor when it comes to going out in front of an audience, especially when coming in against someone that is bursting with character like The Big Strong Man.
GSOW Rising Stars Championship – Six Man Scramble – Bryan Mojo defeated El Extrano, TMH, Gregg, Kayden Cross, and Oliver Prince by pinfall to win the GSOW Rising Stars Championship.
The battle lines were drawn to start off with, Mojo, TMH, and Prince against Cross, Gregg, and Extrano. TMH and Kayden Cross brawled on the outside, while Gregg and Bryan Mojo had a quickfire exchange in-ring. Mojo took a powder on the outside to happen upon the brawling, only for Gregg to throw his mascot out to distract the rabble long enough to dive through the ropes, taking out Kayden Cross, TMH, and El Extrano.
After missing the collision, Bryan, along with Oliver Prince jumped Gregg for a beat down with TMH rejoining to take his turn. A quick pin attempt from Mojo broke the alliance but it allowed for Kayden Cross to roll back in to have a scrap with TMH, who got the better of it with a rolling back elbow. El Extrano arrived to take out TMH, and spiked Bryan Mojo onto his head with a hurricanrana to counter a powerbomb.
The action continued, Oliver Prince snapped off a headscissor to Mojo that was a hairline away from a dangerous landing, Gregg reappeared to give a Stunner to Prince. Just as it looked like Gregg was about to get the title, Mr Wanderer arrived to cause the distraction which Bryan Mojo took advantage of, running Gregg into the corner then pasted his knee into the back of the bakery enthusiast’s skull to take the GSOW Rising Stars Champion to The Entourage.
It was a bit of chaos and mayhem, but showed plenty of positive signs. There was some slow motion spots, and some laboured moments, however, definitely something that can be build upon. It’s no surprise that Bryan Mojo, the most experienced in the match, stood out from the pack. TMH had a nice little back and forth with Kayden Cross that just needed a bit of speed and intensity added to it. We didn’t get enough El Extrano, Oliver Prince though small in frame had a big energy about him, and Gregg seemed to be the big fan favourite and that’s considering he entered to that awful Lad Baby parody. Kayden Cross wasn’t a factor for a lot of the match which was a bit of a surprise.
Cousin Zander defeated Kev.i.n by pinfall.
Kev tried to show why it wasn’t about the size of the dug in the fight but he couldn’t quite muscle over a lean Zander. A frustrated Kev didn’t take kindly to his hair being ruffled but continued to be bamboozled by The People’s Cousin, being sent to the outside to reevaluate things.
Unfortunately for Kev, Zander decided to tap the ropes upon re-entering to rattle it off his “Drumchapels”. An Atomic Drop didn’t help, with a string of shoulder blocks followed by another Atomic Drop but this time the inverted version also doing little to ease the pain.
The Wee Dug begged off but the guise of a pinky promise was a ruse because Kev wasn’t a dog at all, he was a possum(!), sending Zander head first into the middle turnbuckle to finally get a chance to do some damage of his own, targeting the back of Zander. His hubris was his own undoing when Kev went back to the scoop slam for another failed attempt to lift his opponent, Zander laid in the elbows to the back of the head with a clothesline being ducked and Kev regaining control with a clothesline of his own.
Zander missed a corner charge, with his staggering momentum giving Kev the change he was waiting for to inflict the slam heard around the scheme, who followed up with a lap of honour to celebrate. Kev partied so hard he bumped his head and wobbly legged his way to a trio of slams, a snake eyes into the corner, and ending the match with the award winning Itchy Bum Diver.
A great match to kick off the second half, a good bit of sports entertainment featuring two entertaining wrestlers. Kev has no qualms looking silly and Zander is naturally hilarious so as a combination it worked.
In a world where comparison is king, folk talk about “the next” whatever. Zander, for my money, is a what if prospect. Seems content with what he does, and that’s absolutely fine, but that natural comedic timing he has, plus being solid in the ring, he’s a guy that could be a good fit in any promotion with that everyman vibe akin to a Grado.
Jay Barker w/Max Milby defeated Thorin by pinfall.
Barker and Thorin went hammer and tong with the tie up and counters, with a high pace tempo of constant movement. After a series back and forth, a triangle dropkick sent Jay to the outside. Max Milby made his presence known to stop a suicide dive via a trip up to put Barker into the drivers seat.
Now with the upper hand, Barker slowed down the match to take his time to wear down Thorin, whose reprieves and turnarounds were quickly extinguished. A striking enziguri opened up the space for Thorin to start cooking, driving Barker into the corner.
Milby jumped onto the apron to try and swipe at Thorin, who ducked, as Max’s hand struck the referee to find himself being ejected from the venue. All that did was give Barker time to recover, give Thorin a low blow, then cap it with a Skull Crushing Finale.
It wasn’t on for a long time but plenty was crammed in. Jay Barker lost a little steam with Thorin going like the clappers in the middle so he became a little loose limbed but generally kept up, a solid match.
The tensions were high for the scheduled match between Sha Samuels and Manky Frankie, as someone (who will remain nameless but rhymes with Franky Mankie) didn’t bring The East End Butcher a drink but brought his own. Which was rude.
Because of this slight Sha and Frankie engaged in a drinking contest in lieu of a main event match, with the scores tied Mr Wanderer and Nick Justice jumped the intoxicated duo to declare the event shut down. Samuels and Richards returned the favour to start a brawl for an impromptu tag team match.
Sha and Frankie slapped about Wanderer and Justice, Samuels taking great joy deploying open hand chops to the chests. The tide turned in the favour of the spoilers, only for Wanderer to spray into the face of Nick Justice. Samuels rolled Justice into the ring to officially start the match.
Sha Samuels & Manky Frankie Richards defeated Nick Justice & Mr Wanderer by pinfall.
Thanks to a distraction from Mr Wanderer, Nick Justice landed a clothesline to knock Sha down. Samuels was isolated away from his corner as Wanderer and Justice kept Sha from catching a breath. A counter to a corner splash, and a uranage gave Samuels the time to get across the ring and tag in Manky Frankie.
Frankie was let loose, hoisting Wanderer up for a Manky Bomb but Nick Justice was on hand to allow for Wanderer to break free to try and lock in a crossface chicken wing. Richards fought back, a lariat to Nick Justice got Sha Samuels back in and throwing hands. Smashing Wanderer with a spinebuster, as the referee’s hand slapped the mat he suddenly found himself on the outside thanks to the appearance of Bryan Mojo. Sha dispatched Mojo but turned around for a cutter out of nowhere for two.
Mr Wanderer directed traffic by getting Mojo to hold Sha in position to have his head caved in with the CPW Heavyweight Championship. The referee stepped in and Frankie got a hold of the title. A spinebuster to Wanderer from Samuels, and a Manky Bomb to Nick Justice from Frankie Richards closed the night on a high.
It was very much a feel good closer featuring the big name from down south teaming with a fan favourite. It wasn’t anything fancy but sometimes it doesn’t need to be when you have four well formed personalities to the audience. There were no shades of grey, an easy watch main event.
It was a show of three halves, the pre-show was a bit odd, hindsight is wonderful but I would’ve had Jack Bizarre run a gauntlet with the last man being Big Ross Hauser to lay him out at the end but then again my armchair is mighty comfy. The first half of the main show was focused on those coming through the Glasgow School of Wrestling into the first half main of the GSOW Rising Stars Championship so the stutters and less-than-smooth moments get some level of forgiveness. Hannah Grande continues to show improvement, and there were some nice sequences in the title scramble. E-Town versus Monstrum stood out as something a little different.
The second (or third?) half was more your seasoned Community Pro Wrestling wrestlers, with three higher quality matches. It was a well paced show, and even if the wrestling wasn’t super clean the passion and personas presented were big and bold, which lead to the crowd investment and support.
