The 13th annual Square Go! event has come and gone with Insane Championship Wrestling producing a thrilling night of action from their spiritual home of wrestling, The Garage in Glasgow. A night with twists and turns, history was made, and the surprises came thick and fast.

Let’s take a look at some of the talking points coming out of Sunday night.

Ruse-o Lightning

The heavy buzz coming into this year’s ‘Square Go!’ event was surrounding the apparent parting of ways between Red Lightning and Insane Championship Wrestling. It put a question mark on the ICW World Heavyweight Championship match between Kenny Williams and Rampage Brown. Kenny also had some comments surrounding the situation before the match in a backstage interview.

However, it was a ruse, following referee Thomas Kearins being knocked down, Colton Davis arrived to chokeslam Rampage Brown to tee him up for a Headlock Driver from ‘The Scum of the Earth’ to retain the championship. Red Lightning revealed himself on the entrance way before declaring that he was going knowhere before confronting Scott Reid.

The crowd in The Garage were wholly behind Red Lightning’s cause and outspoken nature which creates a very awkward situation for ICW management to combat. It will be interesting to see how they answer back to this. Super Smokin’ Thunderbowl?

Championship Stalemate

Five championships were on the line but no champion could be budged which saw the aforementioned Kenny Williams retain the ICW World Heavyweight Championship against Rampage Brown, Landon Riley keeping the Zero-G Championship against Daz Black, Arcade Violence holding onto the Tag Team Championships against Victory Incorporated, and Lana Austin able to get passed a game Angel Hayze.

With a new batch of challengers vanquished, it’s time to find out who will step up to take on the defending champions Insane Championship Wrestling champions.

NWA Worlds Championship Defended

Along with the ICW championships not changing hands, Thom Latimer retained the NWA Worlds Championship in a match of the night contender against Aaron Echo that had fans on the edge of their seats.

This marks the third time the NWA Worlds Championship was, according to records, defended against a Scotsman following in the footsteps of George Scott against Gene Kiniski (1968) , and Irn Dru Marshall against EC3 (2024), but this was the first time that I could find that the title was defended on Scottish soil.

A history making night in more ways than one.

Fraser Girvan Is Alive!

At ‘Fear & Loathing XVI’, once the dust had settled after the TLC match for the ICW Tag Team Championships between Arcade Violence and The Girvans, Fraser Girvan barely survived after being given a Jay Driller onto a ladder by Brody Turnbull which fractured his skull.

Following a retirement post it looked like the young career of Fraser Girvan was over. Cue the countdown to entrant number 18 for the Square Go! match and Girvan marching out with a steel chair in hand to reunite with his brother Lewis to cause some insanity.

It wasn’t long before Brody Turnbull was out to get his hands on Fraser as the Arcade Violence and Girvans wound that was closed at the end of 2024 was ripped open.

Rhio Makes History

The 13th edition of the Square Go! match wasn’t without controversy and packed with plenty talking points in itself. Former NWA Women’s Worlds Champion Kamille made her ICW debut, Victory Incorporated returned to cost Kez Evans a chance to become a two-time winner, G.O.A.T House was revealed to be ADM and Taylor Vite, and Colton Davis racking up six eliminations including former ICW World Heavyweight Champions Big Damo and Aaron Echo. Simon Cassidy was eliminated by… Simon Cassidy but that wasn’t before he registered an elimination of his own when he knocked Lewis Girvan off the apron. All of that though, the night belonged to the longest reigning ICW Women’s World Champion, Rhio.

Entering at number 21, Rhio registered eliminations of rival Molly Spartan and the returning KOE, before finding herself in the final two standing up against the man who entered first, former ICW Zero G Champion Theo Doros.

It was a hard fought battle but a package piledriver left Doros reeling and prone to be thrown over the top rope to see Rhio become the first woman to win the Square Go! match.

We sit here less than 24 hours later but the big question is, what’s next for Rhio? The trope would be a potential showdown against the woman that took the ICW Women’s World Championship from her, Lana Austin, but Rhio is a barrier breaker and you have to imagine that the ICW World Heavyweight Championship or even the ICW Zero G Championship is on her mind.

Insane Championship Wrestling has provided platforms for mould breaking; Carmel Jacob, Kay Lee Ray (Alba Fyre), Viper (Piper Niven), more recently Molly Spartan, and Angel Hayze, they have achieved legacies through the Glasgow promotion for not only taking on all comers in the ring but by competing in steel cages, Queens of Insanity, and using the famed ICW Rules to their fullest.

Rhio now holds all the cards, and all the champions are on notice.

Scottish wrestling, especially in Glasgow, is going to get even wilder on the road to ‘We Run This Town’ on May 18th. Lines are being blurred, crossed, and drawn in the sand. All we can do is watch it unfold.

Replay of the event is available on Triller+, you can get a 7 day free trial for new subscribers.
