As I work through the backlog of pro wrestling reviews, Community Pro Wrestling dropped their four recent events on their Patreon. In front of a primarily non-wrestling crowd, it offered an interesting perspective on fan entertainment that pro wrestling provides in front of an audience that aren’t necessarily aware of the tropes or what is expected. There were a lot of bewildered looks, bemusement, and those having flashbacks to their youth as the event started.

APW Scottish Championship – The Big Strong Man defeated Mr Wanderer by pinfall to retain the APW Scottish Championship.

What better way to introduce an audience to the frolics of Community Pro Wrestling than two big characters squaring off. A grimacing Mr Wanderer marched out with his Ticket To The Top briefcase, while the APW Scottish Champion The Big Strong Man got folk up to swivel and get the party started.

It didn’t take long for the hero-villain dynamic to take shape, and the crowd were more than happy to take part. The Big Strong Man had the answers to what Mr Wanderer was trying to get going, countering a headlock takeover and knocking him down with a calf kick to send Mr Wanderer to the outside to reset.

A brief spell on the outside had Wanderer miss a chop to have his hand smack the ring post, but as the action returned to the ring Mr Wanderer kicked the second rope to rattle it off The Big Strong Groin to take charge.

The punishment continued but an overzealous Wanderer missed a charge into the corner that reinvigorated The Big Strong Man as he tossed his opponent coast to coast like butter on toast with suplexes but it could only score a two count.

Wanderer stopped a spear with a WandeRKO for a near fall but his second attempt was pushed out of with The Big Strong Man landing a Big Strong Spear to retain.

A fun opener that served well to provide plenty of entertainment. The audience was receptive, with the in-ring being solid.

Danny Miller defeated Thorin by submission.

Magic Dave announced a GSOW Championship match but Nick Justice declared that he would not be taking part with Danny Miller taking his place.

Thorin sent Miller all over the ring with hiptosses to start out, sending Danny flying. Miller hung up Thorin on the top rope to gain an advantage and put the boots to his opponent. Thorin swung a kick but it was grabbed by Miller, but Thorin managed to swing his leg around for an enziguri to swing the momentum back into his favour.

Several clothesline landed, with a Swanton Bomb connected but could only muster a two count. A second enziguri was attempted but Danny ducked, and put Thorin into an Ankle Lock with a grapevine to get the tap out.

This was a quick match, with Danny Miller continuing to show a lot of bulldog grit. Thorin had plenty fire in his offence. It may’ve been quick but it was a good time.

HWFG Jay Bee Dub Hardcore Championship – Fatal Four Way – Fabio defeated Ronan King, Kayden Cross, and Thatcher Wright by pinfall to win the HWFG Jay Bee Dub Hardcore Championship.

Thatcher tried to get a three man coalition going to against Kayden Cross but Fabio was quick to break ranks to jump Wright with the bodies flying thick and fast. Fabio formed an early alliance with Cross for some poetry in motion.

Fabio continued to bust out slick offense, cock-shotting Ronan King to break his guard before nailing him with a dropkick. Thatcher Wright returned to drop the top rope to send Fabio crashing to the outside. A wily Ronan used Thatcher for some double team offense before dumping him to the outside for a near fall on Kayden Cross.

The dissention continued between Wright and King which allowed Fabio to return to the action with a high flying top rope crossbody. He sent the treacherous duo around the houses, landing a 619 and a second rope moonsault. With Ronan and Thatcher down, Kayden Cross rejoined the fray, hip tossing Ronan King into giving Fabio a Canadian Destroyer that was gnarly.

Thatcher busted out the book of evilThatcher to clatter Kayden, but was sent out again by King after swinging wildy with the hardback. Cross rolled out the way of a Ronan 450 splash and struck a spear with the aim to wrap up the match. His running splash was stopped by Fabio planting Cross with a cutter that had Kayden land on King.

Fabio took out Thatcher with a dive to the outside and finished the match in style with a rope walk 450 splash to Ronan King to pick up the HWFG JBD Hardcore Championship.

It was fast and furious, with Fabio looking like a superstar and his brief interactions with Ronan King being the highlight of the match. The combination with the hip toss into the destroyer was really cool. I’d like to see Ronan and Fabio run it back as it could be something really special.

CPW Heavyweight Championship – Big Ross Hauser defeated Judas Grey by pinfall to retain the CPW Heavyweight Championship.

Judas tried his luck with a shoulder block to start the match but was sent hurtling to the mat. The match quickly went to the outside with hard chops being traded back and forth, mostly forth against the flesh of Grey. Judas requested a time out to take a sip of beer, but spat in the face of Hauser to try and gain the upper hand in the chopathon… which didn’t last long.

The match returned to between the ropes, with Judas countering a running powerslam with an eye rake to send Big Ross on the back foot and prone for his stunning headstand corner dropkick to impact the chest of the champion.

Big Ross fired back with forearms but a wild Judas found a novelty counter by biting at the arm of Hauser to catch Ross off guard. Grey repaid the earlier chop suey with some of his own but ran into another big hand from Hauser to send him wobbly legged.

Grey kept going with counters, a powerslam into a sunset flip that was stopped at the base. Big Ross launched Judas with a mighty chokeslam that somehow got a near fall. A lariat was countered with a dropkick as Grey continued to survive with superkicks. Judas landed a silky smooth standing moonsault that still couldn’t put Hauser away. Another superkick rocked Big Ross who came back with a sick lariat to finally keep Judas Grey down for three.

This was a highly competitive match. When it comes to these kind of shows you expect most matches to be on the more pantomime side of things and offering an experience but maybe not being as nitty gritty in the pro wrestling side of things. This is possibly the best defence, possibly the best match, I’ve seen from Big Ross Hauser in recent memory. Everything just worked, Ross could show off his power with Judas Grey able to ragdoll around to make it as impactful as possible. Grey manages to ooze cockiness that you want to see him get pummelled out of him which was a service that Hauser was happy to provide. The crowd investment continued to hold strong during this encounter.

CPW Cruiserweight Championship – Martin MacAlister w/Abbie, Ellie Armstrong, & Kev.i.n defeated E-Town by pinfall to retain the CPW Cruiserweight Championship.

Kev tried to distract E-Town with his disgust over the lack of vegan options on the menu but E-Town had the sneak attack scouted from Martin MacAlistair to get the match started at his pace. He didn’t account for Ellie Armstrong grabbing a foot while he was perched on the turnbuckles which allowed MacAlistair to sweep the leg of E-Town and rain punches to put Planet A in control.

MacAlistair continued to keep E-Town at bay by targeting the joints of his opponent with a methodical Garvin Stomp. E-Town nipped a couple roll ups but they weren’t enough to keep Martin down, who stung the vicious lad with a stalling vertical suplex for two.

E-Town fought back, knocking MacAlistair down with a second rope dropkick to get the momentum rolling. A flurry of offense, ending in a Boom Drop for the pin attempt but the champion manage to roll a shoulder up. E-Town tried a 619 but Kev jumped onto the apron to block, Armstrong pulled Martin out of the way of a charging E-Town to send him into the turnbuckle and prone to be rolled up, with MacAlistair using the ropes for leverage, to retain via questionable means.

Another quick match but had simple throughline to follow with the numbers always being against E-Town but it didn’t stop him coming back and trying to come out victorious with the shady tactics ultimately being the reason for his loss.

CPW Women’s Championship – Ellie Armstrong w/Abbie, Martin MacAlistair, & Kev.i.n defeated Nicole Jasmin by pinfall to retain the CPW Women’s Championship.

The audible groan when Planet A’s music hit a second time and subsequent boos when they entered proved a job well done in the previous match.

Armstrong quickly overpowered Jasmin, and she made no secret about being happy of her opening success but Nicole quickly came back while Ellie was gloating which sent Armstrong scurrying into the corner and pleading for the referee to intervene in separating Jasmin from her.

Jasmin dodged a corner charge to hit the handspring back elbow, and continued to be one step ahead of her opponent in the early going to send Ellie to the outside to regroup with Planet A. Nicole Jasmin was hot on Ellie’s trail, but after using Abbie as a human shield, Armstrong blasted Jasmin with a forearm to put herself into the driving seat.

Despite having the advantage, Armstrong still had Planet A do some work, distracting the referee to see MacAlistair wrench at the arm of Jasmin. Nicole made another comeback with an awkward looking sunset flip but Armstrong rolled out for multiple short armed clotheslines. Nicole once against weathered the storm, but MacAlistair got involved again by jumping up onto the apron. Jasmin knocked Martin down with a forearm but walked into a belly to belly to end her night and championship hopes.

There were a few missteps and noticeable stuttering but overall it was decent. The jaw jacking from Ellie, and the rest of Planet A about the lack of vegan options on the menu was a fun little bit that carried between the two matches.

CPW Tag Team Championships – The Govan Team (Ravie Davie & Bryan Mojo) defeated Casino Brutale (RABU & Mikey Devine) by pinfall to retain the CPW Tag Team Championships.

Bryan Mojo ran around with the CPW Tag Team Championships in place of Cousin Zander. Mikey Devine and RABU tried to formulate some opinions but tech issues meant that every microphone they picked up cut out.

After some trepidation, Casino Brutale finally got themselves into a position to get the match started and for the bell to ring with a feral Mikey Devine running into a headlock and wet willy situation. Davie and Mojo traded quick tags to cause confusion for Mikey Devine while RABU was trying to keep track on who the legal man was on Devine’s behalf.

Mikey managed to corner Bryan Mojo to bring in RABU, who had to fight off a scrapping Mojo to slam him down with a back suplex to isolate the lad from Ravie Davie. Casino Brutale took control, clubbing at Bryan with hard strikes to keep the high flyer grounded.

An incensed Ravie Davie watched on as RABU and Mikey took their time to dissect Bryan Mojo, taking aim at the back, liberally. After sending RABU to the outside, and a tornado DDT to Mikey Devine, Mojo finally got Davie into play and the fists and kicks were flying.

Davie ran wild, unleashing the fury on Casino Brutale at speed before sending them both down with a double blockbuster. A stereo Lisbon Lionsault from Mojo and Davie sealed the win.

A rapid main event once it got started, it wasn’t anything fancy but it capped off an entertaining night of wrestling.

It was a variety filled night from Community Pro Wrestling. A well paced show that managed to throw in some silliness along with some high quality wrestling. While the crowd were up for the show, there were some quieter moments, but considering that this wasn’t really a pro wrestling audience CPW managed to wrangle some investment throughout the event whether that was through the action on the night or the libations had during the dinner. In any event it was treated respectfully like an entertainment spectacle with plenty oohs, aahs, boos, and cheers.

From the in-ring action, the CPW Heavyweight Championship match featuring Big Ross Hauser and Judas Grey provided a really great bout with all the matches providing positive moments to look back on. Fabio really shone in the fatal four way, and the opener was a big strong kick off for what was to come.
