The following is a review of Insane Championship Wrestling’s ‘Get Your Rat Oot’ by Pixie (@RatedRPixie):
ICW: Get Your Rat Oot
7th April 2013 Glasgow Garage
The show opened with Dr Sean David and Billy Kirkwood. Billy was on fire as per usual but there was something about Sean that was to be revealed later that he was in fact working for William Grange. Grange joined Billy and Sean on commentary.
The first match was Wolfgang’s first title defense for his Zero-G championship. The contenders were Noam Dar, Solar, Grado and Wolfgang. The match was pretty solid with Dar pretty much dominating for the first 10 minutes before Grado took control of the match. Grado wasn’t in control for long before Joe Coffey came out and beat him down before dragging him to the back. The match continued and Wolfgang retained his championship all in all a fantastic opening match.
Next up was a fatal 4-way for the fierce females championship tournament.
The participants were Bete Noir, Sara, Carmel and Kay-Lee Ray
Again a solid match with plenty of high flying action to be seen. Kay-Lee, Carmel and Sara all ended up in the crowd while Bete Noir dominated in ring but ultimately there was always only going to be one winner and that was KayLee Ray!!
It was then time for the action to take a break as Jackie Polo hosted another edition of the Polo Lounge.
Usually the crowd face the bar during the Polo Lounge however that didn’t work this time as Polo entered via the bar singing his theme to a mixed reaction from the crowd.
His guest this month was Johnny Moss much to the surprise of the crowd and the powerhouse did not look to be in the best of moods.
Polo and Mossy had a back and forth chat until Mossy was tired of Polo and attacked him, destroying the set and using it as weapons before challenging Polo to a match May 5th at Reservoir Dogs.
Next up was the tag titles match. The Bucky boys’ first title defense and was a 3 way dance between them, Fight Club and The Bad Hangovers.
The Bucky Boys had a tough challenge as both Fight Club and The Bad Hangovers, who were making their ICW debut pushed the champions to really up their game although most in-ring action was seen to be between Fight Club and The Big Hangovers.
The champions retained after hitting the Triple-D on Jordan Devlin after he accidentally hit his partner Sean Maxer with a full beer can.
There was then some entertainment in the interval by Kayce-one before the show resumed.
The second half was then started by Grado coming out looking serious and calling out Joe Coffey. Again, Joe came out and tried to beat down Grado but his injured ankle gave Grado the opportunity to capitalize. Nikki Storm ran out to the aid of Coffey but was soon thwarted when the Owens Twins came to help Grado, Joe and Nikki were sent retreating backstage with their tails between their legs.
Next up, Mikey Whiplash went one-on-one with Robbie Dynamite. Whiplash is well known within ICW for his sadistic, terrifying demeanour, but his great respect for Dynamite seems to have remained. Sending Lolita and Jam to the backstage area, and removing his trademark make-up and outfit Whippy was going old-school to face his former tag-team partner. With their years of experience clear to see, both men dazzled the fans with a display of technical wrestling, which saw both men pushed to their limits. In the end, Whiplash reversed a Tombstone attempt by Dynamite, and then managed to roll up his opponent to pick up the win.
Jack Jester suffered an unfortunate back injury in March during his ICW Championship Match with Red Lightning, but that would not stop him coming to Get Your Rat Oot to give the crowd an update on his injury. He stated that he was aiming to return to ICW at Reservoir Dogs in May. The fans showed their appreciation and Jester left to huge applause and cheering, I’m sure there’s not one ICW fan who doesn’t want to see him back where he belongs as soon as possible.
Next up was James Scott vs. Jimmy Havoc in a 2 out of 3 falls match. After their match at last month’s Get To The Choppa these two men seem to have a bitter rivalry almost based around Scott’s hatred for Jimmy’s hardcore ways. James took the first fall after saying that Jimmy wouldn’t score a single fall against him and for a while that looked to be the case but it wasn’t long before Jimmy really upped his game and scored the second fall which then meant that the third fall would be contested under hardcore rules. Before long Jimmy had scored the third and final fall but James Scott refused to accept that he had lost and challenged Jimmy to one more match at Reservoir Dogs on May 5th which Jimmy accepted under on the condition that it was falls count anywhere.
Finally it was time for the main event! A loser leaves ICW match between former best friends and bitter rivals Chris Renfrew and BT Gunn. Both men were willing to put it all on the line to once and for all settle their differences. ICW owner Mark Dallas asked all of his officials before the match if they would referee to which they all declined due to the fact that at Get To The Choppa both Gunn and Renfrew knocked out several referees as they were trying to pull them apart, it was then decided that Dallas would be the special guest referee for this match. As soon as the bell rang both men looked hell-bent on permanently hurting and or scarring the other and what can only be described as a brutal brawl ensued before Gunn brought a chair to the ring and started beating down Renfrew but Chris wasn’t going to back down and quickly turned the offensive on Gunn by whacking him on the head with a chair-shot that could he heard throughout the venue, soon Renfrew handcuffed Gunn, mirroring his return at a previous show when he attacked Renfrew. Clutching a Singapore cane, Renfrew stood over his enemy who at this point was screaming at him to “look what he’s done” apparently blaming Dallas for the demise of their friendship, The next move Renfrew made was to smack his boss and friend on the back of the head with the cane before gesturing to Gunn that his eyes had been opened. After hugging Gunn, Renfrew made the New Age Kliq hand gesture before both laying out the arm of Dallas on which he has his ICW tattoo and spitting on it then both men left together leaving all the fans wondering what Renfrew’s motives could have possibly been to turn on his boss and re-align with BT Gunn.
