Live from a packed-out Kincorth Community Centre, WrestleZone presented the 2017 Halloween Hijinx. A fantastic night of action that ended with quite possibly the loudest crowd reaction in WrestleZone history. But what about some of the other happenings from the show?
5. Anarchy is Coming
Prior to the main event, WrestleZone management representative Chris McDonald came to ringside with a big announcement regarding Aberdeen Anarchy 2018. With it being the 10 year anniversary of WrestleZone as a company, Chris announced that the show would once again emanate from the historic Aberdeen Beach Ballroom, but a little later in the year. The official date? Saturday September 1st 2018. Save the date folks. Tickets will be released in the coming weeks.
4. Halloween Comes Early
The penultimate match of the night saw the second annual Halloween Brawl, featuring Zach Dynamite, Blue Thunder and the man who became the Undisputed Champion at last year’s Halloween Hijinx, “Unstoppable” Andy Wild. Dynamite and Thunder were there to have a bit of fun while Wild wanted none of it. Broomsticks, inflatables and pumpkins were used by the three competitors. In the end, Dynamite locked Thunder in a vicious Anaconda Vice to pick up the submission victory.
3. Absolutely Vintage
Kicking off the second half was a battle that had been brewing since last month’s Battle of the Nations event, as Mr P faced off against “Vintage” Nathan North. After plenty of interference from North’s new manager Jeeves Winchester, Mr P looked to pick up the win with a slingshot sunset flip. However, North sat down on top of the proud Scotsman and grabbed the Scottish flag for aided assistance for the three count. Maybe not the most convincing of victories, but still a great victory. You’ve all been given plenty of chances to follow The North Star. If you’ve not done it yet, what’s wrong with you?
2. The King Reigns Supreme
The opening contest saw Aspen Faith put his Tri-Counties Championship on the line against Bradley Evans. Both men went back and forth, Aspen using a more technical-based offence while Bradley stormed through The King of Catch with powerhouse moves. In the end, Faith dropped Evans on his head with a Tombstone Piledriver to mark another retention of the Tri-Counties Title. After being ran off after the match by Zach Dynamite, it looks like we’ve found the next challenger.
1. A Revolution Solidified
In the main event, former Sterling Oil allies collided as Shawn Johnson defended his Undisputed Championship against “The Revolutionary” Damien. After The Sterling Brothers were ejected from ringside, it looked like Damien had a better chance to win the gold only for referee Dennis Law to be taken out later in the contest. This allowed Crusher Craib to enter and chokeslam Damien on the ring apron. Johnson followed with a Samoan Driver, but Damien somehow kicked out. Shawn later went for his trademark springboard back elbow, but it was countered mid-air with a Flying Codebreaker for the three count. The Kincorth Community Centre erupted as Damien, the first ever Undisputed Champion, won the gold once again. Having been on the Damien bandwagon since 2015, it was a fantastic moment to see him crowned as champion.
Another fantastic night from WrestleZone. They never fail to deliver on their shows. When the show releases on DVD, I would of course recommend you buy it. Commentary at the show was provided by Chris McDonald and a fellow Sterling Oil/Nathan North fan in Lee Manton. In the meantime, you can purchase tickets for WrestleZone’s next event at Huntly’s Stewarts Hall from www.ringsideworld.co.uk.
