For those that have been keeping up with the Cultaholic YouTube channel, you’ll have noticed that Jack King has been doing his Top 10 Wrestlers of the Week videos since the start of 2018. Well, I’m here to bring my Top 10 Wrestlers of the Month, since there’s not always that much Scottish wrestling each week. The rules are simple; number 10 gets 1 point, number 9 gets 2 points, number 8 gets 3 points and so on, then we’ll have an overall wrestler of the year depending on who has the most points come December 31st. Let’s get into it!

Honourable mentions go out to King Robert Wishart, Zach Dynamite, Scotty Swift, Ravie Davie, Delsin Dayre, Kuma and Butler.

10. BT Gunn

Coming in at number 10 is “The Oddity” BT Gunn. He kicked January off with a victory over Chris Ridgeway down at Discovery Wrestling, with reports saying it was a fantastic match as you’d expect from these two. His World Heavyweight Championship defence Red Lightning for ICW was cancelled as Gunn was attacked by Lightning’s newest acquisition Iestyn Rees. The month ended with an unsuccessful challenge for Primate’s MEW Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat Match against fellow New Age Kliq member Chris Renfrew.

9. Glen Dunbar

Glen Dunbar is by far one of the most underrated talents in British wrestling today. At CPW’s Caithness Rumble event, he won the Undisputed Championship in a Fatal Four Way Match over Connor Rose, Lad Chapman and Lucha DS. With Eric Arkham winning The Caithness Rumble later that night (more on him later), that could make for a very interesting contest further down the line.

8. Aaron Echo

Aaron Echo made his long-awaited debut for Discovery Wrestling on January 19th, competing in The Disco Derby. Although he came away unsuccessful, I’m sure The Author of The Echo Bible left a lasting impression. The same weekend, he teamed with Kenny Williams, Lionheart and The Kinky Party as they were victorious over The Filthy Generation and The Fite Network in a Glasgow Street Fight for ICW. The month ended with a retention of his Calling Spots Championship over Shreddybrek down at Main Event Wrestling’s Purely Belta show.

7. Eric Arkham

Perhaps an unknown name to many, Eric Arkham mainly competes for Caithness Pro Wrestling. The last weekend of the month saw him losing 3-2 in a 30 Minute Iron Man Match, meaning he lost his Highland Regional Championship to King Robert Wishart. Arkham managed to rebound later in the night, as he went on to win the 2018 Caithness Rumble Match, which I believe guarantees him a shot at the Undisputed CPW Championship down the line.

6. Crusher Craib

January saw “The Creator of Carnage” Crusher Craib debut for Discovery Wrestling in The Disco Derby Match, where he entered at number 12 and made it down to the final 4 alongside Kuma, Bram and eventual winner Andy Wild. The next night, he and Scotty Swift tore into each other at WrestleZone’s Summerhill Showdown event, with Crusher getting the win via disqualification after goading Swift into using a steel chair.

5. Sammii Jayne

“The Queen of Catch” Sammii Jayne had the busiest January out of everyone on this list. At the start of the month, she made her debut for RPW, losing to Deonna Purrazzo in the first round of their Women’s Championship Tournament before teaming with Zan Phoenix in a loss to Charli Evans and Nina Samuels the next day. The following week at Pro Wrestling: EVE, she picked up the win over Candyfloss before retaining her Pro Wrestling: EVE Championship in an 18-woman Rumble Match. The next weekend saw her retain the Discovery Women’s Championship over Little Miss Roxxy before submitting Leah Owens the following night for WrestleZone. The month ended with her, Aspen Faith and Lewis Girvan (the first sighting of The Kingdom of Catch in action as a trio) defeating HT Drake, Satchel Jones and Little Miss Roxxy for 3 Count Wrestling.

4. Aspen Faith

January saw Aspen Faith wrestling 3 times in the one weekend. After he and Lewis Girvan defeated Chris Brookes and Omari down in Edinburgh for Discovery Wrestling, The King of Catch headed up to WrestleZone to become a two-time Tri-Counties Champion with a win over Zach Dynamite. The weekend ended on a bad note, as he was unsuccessful in a 5 on 5 Glasgow Street Fight. A victory down in England for 3CW alongside Lewis Girvan and Sammii Jayne over HT Drake, Satchel Jones and Little Miss Roxxy capped off an eventful month for Aspen Faith.

3. Damien

“The Revolutionary” Damien was another entrant in The Disco Derby, competing as Damien Daniels and entering at number 14 before being the 12th man tossed out. The next night saw a defence of his Undisputed WrestleZone Championship against former champion Shawn Johnson. After putting in a fantastic performance, Damien found himself screwed out of the title as Richard R. Russell low blowed him behind the referee’s back. Two back-to-back losses, but still a phenomenal month for Damien with the effort put in.

2. Shawn Johnson

A return down to Edinburgh for Shawn Johnson saw him entering The Disco Derby, where he found himself as the first man eliminated. Despite this, he main evented the following night for WrestleZone, where he regained the Undisputed Championship from Damien in a fantastic match with some help from Sterling Oil strategist Richard R. Russell.

1. Andy Wild

The first month of 2018 was a monumental one for Andy Wild. A return to Discovery Wrestling saw him last eliminate Bram to win the 20-man Disco Derby, earning himself a permanent spot on the Discovery Wrestling roster. Although he was unsuccessful in his attempt to win the WrestleZone Tag Team Championships from The Rejected alongside Jason Reed the following night in Aberdeen, it looks as if 2018 will be the year of Andy Wild.

Point Standings as of February 1st 2018
1. Andy Wild (10 points)
2. Shawn Johnson (9 points)
3. Damien (8 points)
