WrestleZone management revealed some huge news a few weeks ago regarding their first event of the new decade, Summerhill Showdown on January 25th at Aberdeen’s Sure Hotel (formerly known as the Summerhill Hotel). That night will see the WrestleZone debut of former Impact Wrestling and current Ring of Honor star, “The Prestigious One” Joe Hendry. Hendry is without a doubt one of the most accomplished performers to ever step foot inside a WrestleZone ring, but the questions now begin to come out about who will be his opponent for the evening. So as a little start of year treat for you all (we’re kind folks here at SWN), here are five picks who I firmly believe would make for great challenges for the current Discovery Wrestling Y Division Champion!
Alan Sterling
The new WrestleZone Tri-Counties Champion, Alan Sterling would undoubtedly make for a grand opponent against Hendry based upon the promos alone. Sterling proved himself throughout 2019 with a victory over Grado at Aberdeen Anarchy to end his Anarchy undefeated streak, and then went on capture the Tri-Counties Championship from Jason Reed at Christmas Chaos. With Hendry’s pal Dave Conrad apparently confirmed for the show as well (based on this tweet from Billy), have him accompany ‘The Prestigious One’ while Caleb Valhalla can be in the corner of Sterling. Two big brutes at ringside while the pair of charismatic lads duke it out in the ring.
Zach Dynamite
The Foundation of the Future’s leader was the one to watch during 2019. His match with PAC at Aberdeen Anarchy was one of the best matches in all of Scottish wrestling last year for my money, while his Triple Threat Match at Battle of the Nations against Damien and Liam Thomson was also fairly decent. Despite being around since around 2011/2012 I believe it was, Dynamite remains one of the most underrated lads on the WrestleZone roster, and with Bradley Evans and Ryan Riley having his back, perhaps this is the sort of opportunity Zach needs to put his name on the map across British wrestling.
Scotty Swift
Seeing as Johnny Lions has now sadly retired, it’s not entirely clear what Scotty Swift will be up to going forward for the foreseeable future. Throw him in here with Joe Hendry to get him back in the running for the Undisputed Championship as we head towards Aberdeen Anarchy on May 15th and 16th, or perhaps put him in contention for the Tri-Counties Championship instead. If he won that title, he would become a Triple Crown Champion, so maybe that’s what ‘The Red Haired Warrior’ could turn his attention to for the time being.
Damien
Whether it’s an Undisputed Championship match or not, Damien vs Joe Hendry would no doubt be a sensational encounter. ‘The Revolutionary’ is no stranger to these sorts of huge encounters, having previously faced the likes of RUDO Lightning and of course Tyler Bate, while also taking part in WrestleZone’s first-ever Steel Cage Match in September 2018. You’d have to imagine that Joe Hendry vs Damien would be the main event for Summerhill Showdown should it be confirmed – what a first main event of the year that would be.
Jason Reed
He may have lost the Tri-Counties Championship to Alan Sterling at Christmas Chaos, but don’t let that fool you. Jason Reed is still on a mission to make WrestleZone great again. ‘The One For The Future’ has become one of the most prominent names on the WZ roster since debuting for the company at Proving Grounds 2016, now being officially under the tutelage of Andy Wild at the Fife Pro Wrestling Asylum. Reed vs Hendry would be the sort of match that would allow everyone to see just why they should ignore all the FAKE NEWS and hop aboard the campaign train to make professional wrestling great again.

Tickets to the show are available from Ringside World right now, priced at £15 for VIP, £12 for adults, and £10 for under 14s. Fans can also pay at the door on the night. Doors at the hotel open at 6pm for VIP ticket holders and 6:30 for general admission ticket holders, with the main card kicking off at 7pm!
