The Gordon Perspective: Discovery Wrestling ‘Live! July 2015 Review

I headed along to the event with my good wrestling friend, and radio collegue, Stacey Ann Miller as the kind guys at Discovery Wrestling sorted out press passes for us to get there an talk with a few stars. I spoke to Danny Boy Rodgers, Team Bae (Debbie Sharpe and Sammii Jayne) and Big Damian O’Connor.

We both took our seats before the opening contest. Michael Chase making his debut against Lewis Girvan, who lost out to Chris Sabin last time out for the Y Division Title. The match was very technical and was appreciated by all present. We had the tag team match next between Kid Fite teaming with Davey Blaze against Johnny Lions and Andy Wild, not a bad match which saw the Lions/Wild combo win.

We were then joined by Alan Smith who is one of the partners who run the organisation, he announced that, due to Chris Sabin’s injury, tonight’s four way elimination match would determine a number one contender to face Sabin when he is fit to compete. Dave Conrad joined him in the ring to question why he wasn’t booked, when he was told he wasn’t scheduled, he attacked Alan and left him lying.

The four way elimination match was next involving Lionheart, BT Gunn (in his Discovery Wrestling debut), Christopher Saynt and Danny Boy Rodgers. The match was fast paced and ended with a surprise winner in Christopher Saynt, who was hiding for most of the match. Following that, two heavyweights were in action as Rampage Brown and Damian O’Connor clashed in a rematch nine months in the making after their first clash on the debut show at Meadowbank. It was a great match where both were trying to finish the match early, Rampage did hit the piledriver during the match which Damian kicked out of to Rampage’s dismay but it only made O’Connor more determined to comeback and it lead to him getting the win.

During the interval, I caught up with Lionheart for a quick chat. I also got a photo with him which was awesome.

After the break, which included a can of juice and Mars Bar, we got back to the action with the funniest bit of the show. Joe Hendry came out with Lou King Sharp (his “adopted son”) to do the Joe Hendry Hometown Challenge..he said that Lou would be taking part in the match, which ended up with him facing, The Chubby Wee Chancer Fae The Tap End of Stevenson and the man finally making his Discovery Wrestling debut, Grado. It was so funny what transpired in the ring but Joe did get involved in the match and it was him going through Grado’s bumbag which drew him out the ring and caused the count out win for Lou King Sharp which Grado then went on to hit the Wee Boot after the match.

Penultimate match of the night saw Viper taking on Team Bae (Debbie Sharpe And Sammi Jayne). It was a match that Viper had asked for and she did have the advantage during some of the match but the ending was controversial as the full three count was not registered by the official but he called for the bell after a 2 count anyway with Viper’s foot under the ropes. The crowd were not chuffed at all with the decision.

The main event was a cracker as, former WWE NXT star, Chris Hero faced, The Iron Man, Joe Coffey in a fantastic match which was technical and pushed the guys to their physical limits. The Iron Man came out the victor but they both showed true respect for each other at the end of the match.

On our way out we caught up with Grado for a wee selfie which he was only happy to oblige us with to end a great night in Portobello. I feel this will be Discovery’s home as the crowd were great and the venue felt perfect for the event.

‘Til next time. Enjoy your wrestling folks.
