Hello, and welcome to another edition of Adam’s Top 10. This week I bring to you my favourite tag teams from past years and present.
10. The Wild Lions (“Tenacious” Johnny Lions and “Unstoppable” Andy Wild)
The Wild Lions pairing on Johnny Lions and Andy Wild have really impressed me with their appearances in Discovery Wrestling. Their raw power amazes me even more each time. Despite this, they can still move as quick as Rey Mysterio or an other cruiserweight. I really hope they start appearing in other companies as soon as possible so that more people can see them team up.
9. The 55 (Kid Fite and “The East-End Butcher” Sha Samuels)
The former ICW Tag Team champions come in at number 9 on this list. Two outstanding performers and real life friends come together like bread and butter to form The 55. Having recently lost their manager James R. Kennedy due to a stipulation in their match at Barramania II, Fite and Shamuels will be looking for redemption in the upcoming ICW Tag Team Championship Tournament.
8. Irn Jew (Grado and Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana)
Another set of former tag champs in ICW in the form of Irn Jew. Grado and Colt Cabana came together shortly after Cabana’s arrival to the company and quickly defeated The NAK to become champs. With Colt turning on Grado last year, who knows if we’ll see these two back together.
7. Revolution (“Tenacious” Johnny Lions and “The Revolutionary” Damien)
These friends turned enemies are former Tag Team champions up north in WrestleZone. Shortly after losing those titles, however, Damien left Lions behind. The two former partners are now causing havoc in WZ with their matches and attacks.
6. The Sumerian Death Squad (“The Anti-Hero” Tommy End and Michael Dante)
Two of the most destructive forces in all of wrestling came together to form the SDS in ICW. Along with Mikey Whiplash, they are members of Legion and had a historic Steel Cage match at Fear & Loathing VIII against NAK members Chris Renfrew, BT Gunn and Wolfgang. That match and the whole rivalry will most certainly go down as one of the best in ICW history.
5. The Rejected (Chris Archer and Mikkey Vago)
Perhaps my favourite tag team in recent history is The Rejected. I don’t know what it is about them, but they’re just fantastic. They haven’t had the best of the luck since the tag titles in February but hopefully that will change in the coming year.
4. Team S.M.A.S.H (“The King of Catch” Aspen Faith and “Forever” James Midas)
Another great tag team is Team S.M.A.S.H (Superior Moves and Submission Holds). With the combination of Faith’s technical prowess and Midas’ strength, they are a mainstay in WrestleZone history despite Midas’ unfortunate retirement in 2014.
3. Polo Promotions (“The King of Chat” Jackie Polo and “The Real Deal” Mark Coffey)
When you say ‘Scottish tag teams’, you can’t help but mention the longest reigning tag champions in ICW history Polo Promotions. The duo have recently departed the company before they were able to achieve their goal of 442 days as champs but their legacy will be remembered for a long time to come.
2. Sterling Oil (William Sterling and Alan Sterling)
The 3-time WrestleZone Tag Team champions come in at number 2. William and Alan are one of the most decorated tag teams in WZ history. Having reformed in May 2015, the two are back on track to wanting the belts with a title match ahead of them this Saturday in Stonehaven.
1. The New Age Kliq (Chris Renfrew and “The Oddity” BT Gunn)
Perhaps the most talked about group in Scottish wrestling history is the New Age Kliq. Renfrew and Gunn alone are two of the greatest wrestlers in the country, with Renfrew being a former ICW World Heavyweight champion and Gunn being the current PBW Heavyweight champion and BCW Grand Slam champion. But when you put them together, they’re even better. The two hold the record for most reigns as ICW tag champs with 3 and hopefully they win them again.
Join me again next week where I take you through my 10 favourite characters in Scotland.
