I’m back to give this Top 10 list another crack with 10 of my favourite entrance themes. I often find that entrance music announces a wrestlers character before they even step through the curtain, so it’s important for a wrestlers theme to reflect them in some way or to an integral part of their character. I really enjoy music so sometimes if a wrestler’s theme is a song I love then I tend to find myself supporting them even more so. Sometimes the love for the wrestler can expand my music horizons so it goes both ways.
10. Angeline – Lost In Audio – Joe Hendry…Local Hero
Let’s kick off the Top 10 with a guy that writes the theme tune, sings the theme tune and stars in it (Little Britian joke if those remember that show). Joe Hendry is famed for his parody entrance songs in ICW but across the country he generally uses his own band’s song ‘Angeline’. I like how it’s actually performed by Hendry who can use it to add a little edge to his character if he decides to talk about it as a guy who is so egotistical that he recorded his own entrance theme because Joe Hendry makes things better.
9. Mr Bad Guy – Freddie Mercury – Randy Valentine
From Freddie Mercury’s solo album of the same name this song really nails Randy Valentine, the flamboyant and cocky character, who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is and say what needs to be said.
8. Jackie – Scott Walker – Jackie Polo/Polo Promotions
‘The King of Chat’ often sings his entrance theme to the ring so it’s only right that he gets to chant his own name.
7. Hungry Like The Wolf – Duran Duran – Wolfgang
His name is Wolfgang and he is hungry, what better song would fit? Everyone knows this one and it’s a cracking singalong.
6. Power of Love – Huey Lewis and The News – Kenny Williams
Great scott! There is no better song to use for Kenny Williams when he is decked out in Back to the Future inspired gear and hoverboard, a great song as well so having this in my list is a no brainer.
5. Sinister Rouge – Bad Religon – Scotty Swift
Fast pump up song, stops as it starts and gets the blood going, the name of the song itself fits ‘The Red Haired Warrior’.
4. Plug In Baby – Muse – Jack Jester
Used outside of ICW mostly, Jester uses Plug In Baby by Muse which has a great opening rift to really make the entrance stand out.
3. Like This – SKisM – Aspen Faith
I’m not into dubstep or electronic, whatever genre this song fits into. This song though really puts the Aspen Faith character into perspective, the underlying message of the song is ‘nobody can do it like this’ along with a very in your face beat.
2. Fix Up Look Sharp – Dizzee Rascal – Lou King Sharp
Brash and loud, yeah that describes Lou King Sharp pretty well. Bonus points for it harnessing the power of the pun.
1. Like A Prayer – The Hit Nation – Grado
I think this is the best of example of a song that just encapcilates a wrestler. A fun, pop number that gets the crowd on their feet. Who would’ve thought that a remix of a Madonna song would be one of the most popular entrances themes in the country. It’s down to Grado though who embraces the tune and adds his charisma and ‘dance moves’ to really make it all connect.
There we go, another painless attempt at a Top 10 list. Fancy a go? Send your lists to VoiceOfOSW@gmail.com and we’ll put them up!
