Welcome to another edition of Adam’s Top 10. Today, we’re going to take a look at who I think are the 10 most underrated talents in Scottish wrestling. Just a warning, plenty of WrestleZone stars in this Top 10.
– Adam Morrison
10. The Rejected (Chris Archer & Mikkey Vago)
The Rejected pairing of Chris Archer and Mikkey Vago are absolutely great together. Their tag team skills are unquestionable, they don’t care what the fans chant at them. Although Vago is still quite young in his career having only debuted in January 2015, they won the WrestleZone Tag Team Titles in their first year as a team. I’d love to see them challenging for the ICW Tag Team Titles at least within the next 5 years.
9. Damien
Damien is a man intent on becoming a two-time Undisputed WrestleZone champion. He prefers to handle things in the ring rather than on the mic, especially when backed up by his Sterling Oil cohorts. He’s been wrestling for several years now but is still underused throughout Scotland. He’s able to adapt to any style of wrestling, whether it be technical, brawling or even a bit of high-flying. Hopefully he fulfils his goal and wins that Undisputed Title very soon.
8. Bryan Tucker
Along with Shawn Johnson, Bryan Tucker was part of one of the greatest tag teams in WrestleZone, The Granite City Hotshots. After being betrayed, Bryan returned in March of this year with a new look. With this new attitude, Bryan would be perfect in any company as a Dean Ambrose-style good guy. He may not be the same happy-go-lucky Bryan Tucker, but he’s still as dangerous, if not more.
7. Sammii Jayne
When it comes to women that are underrated, Sammii Jayne comes straight to mind. One of the greatest female technical wrestlers of the last few years, Sammii Jayne has many ways to make an opponent tap out. She can lock you in an armbar at any point, she can give you a kick to the head that you’ll never forget. If all that fails, she’ll just drop both her knees into your chest. I like to think of her and Debbie Sharpe as the Scottish equivalent of Trish Stratus and Lita due to their great chemistry with each other. I can see Sammii as a future ICW Womens champion in the very near future.
6. Solar
One of my favourite high-flyers, Solar is tremendously gifted in the ring. He has some incredible moves that he can hit out of nowhere. He is quite arguably one of the greatest high-flyers going in the UK. Unfortunately there aren’t that many companies that utilize him to the best of their ability. Hopefully more people realise just how good Solar really is and he gets booked in many more promotions around Scotland.
5. Alan Sterling
If you know me, then you know how big a fan I am of Sterling Oil. For me, the most underrated member is Alan Sterling. Fair enough, he had some wacky characters after Sterling Oil went their seperate ways in 2013. He thought he was an MMA fighter, then he thought he was a lord. Thankfully the 2015 return of Sterling Oil saved him and his career. I wouldn’t be shocked if Alan takes his in-ring talents to companies like Discovery Wrestling or ICW in the near future.
4. Lewis Girvan
Lewis Girvan is nicknamed the Best Young Wrestler for a reason. Despite being at such a young age, he proves time and time again why he is the best. Whether it’s defending the Y-Divison Title or representing The Referendum, Girvan always finds his way around the ring. His crisp technical manoeuvers are out of this world. If WWE ever do a second Cruiserweight Classic, Lewis definitely has to be among the picks.
3. Aspen Faith
Aspen Faith is one of the greatest technical wrestlers not just in the UK, but on the entire planet. So far, 2016 has been a great year for Aspen (except for the concussion suffered last month at Discovery Wrestling). He’s had an excellent series of technical classics against Lewis Girvan, with the two now being allies (I for one couldn’t be happier with this team). He had a great outing in this year’s Regal Rumble, until falling off the ring apron. What else does this year hold for the King of Catch?
2. Shawn Johnson
Despite being a 4-time WrestleZone Tag Team champion, Shawn Johnson doesn’t really compete anywhere besides the Aberdeen-based promotion. He made his debut for Discovery Wrestling in July in the traditional Y-Division Elimination match but other than that, prefers to stick to his home turf in WrestleZone. I could see Shawn competing in ICW in the very near future, specifically for their Zero-G Title.
1. Crusher Craib
The most underrated big man in Scottish wrestling Crusher Craib tops this week’s list. He’s a former 2-time Undisputed WrestleZone champion and has won the Regal Rumble a record three times (2012, 2013 and 2016) but still only competes for 2 promotions at the moment, those being WrestleZone and Rock N Wrestle. Crusher needs to be used more around Scotland. There’s plenty of promotions that could benefit from having the Creator of Carnage on their show.
Another Top 10 is in the books. Next week, I’ll be taking a look at 10 wrestlers that you need to look out for in the future.
