Aaron Echo
2017 Asylum Invitational Tournament Winner

Saturday saw the culmination of the inaugural Asylum Invitational. 8 competitors remained at the beginning of the evening:

Leyton Buzzard appeared to be carrying an injury heading into his Quarter Final against Echo due to a vicious attack post-match on Night 1 by Kez Evans. Echo quickly took advantage and walked away with the win.

Krieger became a fan favourite over the weekend due to his unique style of dancing and bringing some fun to the proceedings. Kieran McColm emerged from Round 1 as one of the favourites to reach the Finals, however on this occasion struggled to get the crowd to buy into his smooth style, with again the crowd leading boos as McColm toppled his second PBW Academy performer of the weekend, much to the chagrin of the PBW fans who had come to support their team.

The Sam Barbour Experience came into the Quarter Final off the back of an impressive victory over Dylan Angel in what was said to be one of the matches of the tournament. This cemented SBX as one of the hot favourites heading into Night 2 and he was able to fend off Kai Williams-King to seal a place in the Semi Final.

Ravie-Davie, The Fresh Prince Of Drumoyne Square and Irving Garrett faced each other to determine the last Semi Final spot. The all-GPWA contest entailed Ravie surviving the clutches of Garrett’s “holds” and book a place in the Semi Final against Aaron Echo.

Kieran McColm re-entered the Asylum to a chorus of boos to face now firm fan favourite The Sam Barbour Experience. Kieran in this instance wrestled a completely different style, choosing to break down SBX slowly and methodically, however SBX was able to get the win and booked his place in the Final.

In one of the more shocking events of the weekend. Aaron Echo and Ravie Davie, The Fresh Prince Of Drumoyne Square brawled at ringside after Echo attacked Davie on his entrance. Ravie Davie appeared to make light work of Echo once the match came back into the ring, however once referee Thomas Kearins was distracted and hit in the face by Echo accidentally, Echo almost out of nowhere finished Ravie Davie with a chair shot and picked up a very quick a surprising victory over the man who was the pick of the draw in a lot of the build up.

Heading into the final it was clear that everyone in The Asylum was rooting for The Sam Barbour Experience to topple Aaron Echo, who had built a reputation over the weekend as being a dirty wrestler.

In just under 15minutes, after an emotional match of highs and lows, Aaron Echo struck again, using SBX’s tights to gain leverage in a pinfall which referee Thomas Kearins was unable to see due to being in a blind spot. Echo picked up the victory and became the first ever ASYLUM INVITATION WINNER.
