Hot Take: RUDO Lightning Will Retain At Aberdeen Anarchy

So, the main event for this year’s WrestleZone Aberdeen Anarchy show has been revealed as 2019 Regal Rumble winner RUDO Lightning will defend his newly won Undisputed Championship against former champ Damien at the Beach Leisure Centre come April 13th. For the huge championship bout, RUDO has demanded his own self-appointed referee, that being one of his GPWA students in the form of Austin Osiris. The odds aren’t looking good for The Revolutionary at this year’s supershow event. While it may just be another case of Damien overcoming the odds once more, I personally don’t see it going down that way, and this is why!

As we know, RUDO Lightning is one of the coaches at the Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum, which is undoubtedly the premier institute for training Scotland’s future talent. Alongside the rest of the team at the facility, RUDO has had a hand in giving outside talent that chance to shine on a relatively large scale by inviting them to participate in the Drew Galloway Invitational Tournament (formerly known as the Asylum Invitational Tournament). One of those names from last year’s tournament was Damien, who at the time was in the midst of his incredible rivalry opposite his former comrades in Sterling Oil.

Over the two-day tournament last May, Damien saw off competition from Soldato, Austin Osiris, and Jack Dillon (all talent from the GPWA may I add) en-route to the finals, where he lost to another GPWA lad in Irving Garrett. Due to how the matches played out and how the brackets were set up, Damien found himself with an incredibly tough challenge with four GPWA students in his path. Was it a fluke that the brackets were laid out like that? Possibly. But is there a chance RUDO had a plan in mind for setting the brackets up to test Damien’s willingness and determination? Again, possibly.

Up in WrestleZone, there have been a handful of graduates from the GPWA making their way up to WrestleZone in the last few months. First, it was Irving Garrett, who’s faced Damien, Alan Sterling, and Crusher Craib so far, all in unsuccessful fashion. Then you had everyone’s favourite Thatcher Wright, who found himself unceremoniously eliminated from the Regal Rumble Match this past month. Most recently, you had The Sam Barbour Experience, who went toe to toe with Dino Del Monte this past Saturday in Westhill. Now, you’ve got Austin Osiris making the journey up in a referee position. I’m not one to point fingers, but there’s no chance Big Money will be calling this one down the middle. Maybe to start off, but certainly not the whole way through.

With that in mind, I’m thinking this may just be the start of a bigger story. I’m not saying a full GPWA invasion, but a handful of guys joining forces with RUDO to combat the stars of WrestleZone. The names we’ve seen come up so far and perhaps a few others – wouldn’t mind seeing Charlie Vyce pop up. Have them run roughshod over the top stars of WrestleZone for a while. Maybe have it culminate with a big multi-man tag match with some stipulation, perhaps the GPWA lads can become full-time WrestleZone roster members if they won. That sounds like a good few months to me.

Knowing my luck with previous Hot Takes though, it’s just me reading into things a bit too much…
