Pass Me The Book! AEW Double Or Nothing – Scottish Invasion

aew-double-or-nothing-tickets_05-25-19_17_5cb8bdb8ea9f9Tomorrow evening, All Elite Wrestling are set to host their debut show with Double or Nothing in Las Vegas, Nevada (although you could class last September’s All In as the debut event). Since the company announced their formation on January 1st, a fire has been lit in professional wrestling. For the first time since the days of WCW, WWE finally have some proper competition, with AEW securing a TV deal on TNT Drama, the same network that aired WCW back in the day.

With Double or Nothing now just one day away, it’s time to bring back the Pass Me The Book series. What would happen if we took the card for that show and changed them to include some Scottish stars? The only rule here is that no NXT UK talents can be used. It’s time to go all elite…

preshow

Pre-Show
Angélico vs Craig Anthony

Kicking things off with the pre-show, and a high-flying contest between the South African sensation Angélico and “The Natural” Craig Anthony. Despite WWE constantly using the pre-show to put their Cruiserweight Championship matches on display, the pre-show should be used to make fans want to stick around for the main show. That’s possibly a reason why the pre-show, titled Buy In, will be airing for free on ITV4 – to make fans want to buy the pay-per-view itself. If this show were to happen, this is exactly the sort of match to get more eyes on the product. A fast-paced match to leave the fans begging for more. Exactly the type of contest Angélico and Anthony are capable of.

battleroyale

Pre-Show Casino Battle Royale
Entrants – Alexander Darwin MacAllan, Andy Wild, Brian Pillman Jr., Damien, Darby Allin, Jack Evans, Jason Reed, Jimmy Havoc, Joey Janela, Johnny Lions, Jungle Boy, Kieran Kelly, Kip Sabian, Leyton Buzzard, Luke Aldridge, Michael Nakazawa, MJF, The Sam Barbour Experience, Sammy Guevara, Sonny Kiss, and Theo Doros

Also on the pre-show will be the Casino Battle Royale, with the victor earning a future opportunity at the soon-to-be-introduced AEW World Championship. The rules for the match are that five men will start off, with a new wave of five competitors entering every three minutes with lucky number 21 entering last. For this match, we’ll take 11 AEW guys and 10 Scottish guys. Some of the interactions during this would be excellent – Andy Wild tossing smaller guys like Sammy Guevara to the other side of the ring, the high-flying of Jack Evans and Leyton Buzzard, Jason Reed vying to make All Elite Wrestling great again. An amazing lineup if I do say so myself.

bestfriendsvsnine9

The Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) vs The Nine9 (Dickie Divers & Jack Morris)

Just imagine the sheer hilarity this match would provide. If you’re familiar with the work of The Best Friends, then you’ll understand where I’m coming from with this one. Two excellent tag teams who don’t exactly shy away from a bit of comedy. There’s not much more I really need to say – can’t be going wrong with this.

sixwomantag

Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki & Emi Sakura vs Anastasia, Ashley Vega & Angel Hayze

Now, in fairness, Yuka Sakazaki and Emi Sakura are two names I’m not overly familiar with. I’ve heard a bit more about Aja Kong, but she’s still someone I’ve not seen that much of. Nevertheless though, the trio are scheduled for action at the actual Double or Nothing event. Here, I’ve got them facing Anastasia, Ashley Vega, and Angel Hayze. Three of the fastest rising stars in Scottish wrestling against (what I believe are) three of the biggest Joshi stars. It’d be a pretty good match based off what I’ve seen so far of the three Japanese ladies, plus the rising Scottish women are fantastic to watch. A great match indeed.

scuvsfite

SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) vs The Fite Network (Kid Fite, Lou King Sharp & Krieger)

Like with the Best Friends/Nine9 match listed earlier on, this six man tag team match would be a real hoot to watch. SoCal Uncensored have become one of the most entertaining acts on the Being The Elite series, and their experience speaks for itself with a combined 63 years between them. On the other side of the match, we have The Fite Network/Proper Mental/Pure Dead Brilliant/The Best Lads. Anyone who knows anything would agree that Kid Fite, Lou King Sharp, and Krieger are three of the best in Scotland, perhaps even the whole of the UK. This would surely be a comedy match for the ages.

fourway

Fatal Four Way Match
Dr Britt Baker vs Nyla Rose vs Sammii Jayne vs Jayla Dark

AEW are making it known from the get go that their women’s division will be far different from WWE’s. Judging by what we’ve seen thus far, that is exactly the case, with some of the world’s best independent female performers being contracted. Two of those names are Dr Britt Baker and Nyla Rose, with both stars receiving quite the amount of hype from fans and wrestlers alike. Here in Scotland, two names who are at the top of the game right now are Sammii Jayne and Jayla Dark, with the latter being the current Scottish Women’s Champion down in Fierce Females. A Fatal Four Way Match featuring these four ladies would certainly be something else.

pagevspolo

Hangman Page vs Jackie Polo

For those who enjoy a good old school style match, that’ll come in the form of Hangman Page vs Jackie Polo. Page is one hell of a talent that should be in the main event scene anywhere he goes, whereas Polo’s Just Justice character is just wonderful to watch. Put those men in the ring together, and watch magic be created. Need I say more?

bucksvskings

AAA World Tag Team Championships
The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (c) vs The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith & Lewis Girvan)

I mean, this one speaks for itself, right? For a few years now, the dream tag team match for The Kings of Catch has been The Young Bucks. They’ve faced each other in a few different scenarios, but never a straight up two on two tag team match. It seems weird that there’s been a few shows where they’ve all been on the card and not received a normal tag match, but rather a multi-man situation (this is not a knock on Discovery Wrestling management by the way, the matches they’ve provided between the four have still been incredible). With Matt and Nick as the reigning AAA World Tag Team Champions, throw the titles on the line and let the Meltzer Driver meet the Apter Burner.

omegavshendry

Kenny Omega vs Joe Hendry

Without a doubt, Kenny Omega is one of, if not the, best wrestlers in the world today. His unmatchable charisma matched with his vast variety of moves makes him an absolute bundle of joy to watch inside the squared circle. Someone else who is well on the way to being classed as one of the world’s best is Joe Hendry. The Prestigious One is certainly classed as a top UK talent, but he not be that familiar to a worldwide audience unless they watch the likes of Impact Wrestling. Both are big video game fans, both are fascinating to watch in the ring, both are capable of putting on a world-class contest.

codylionheart

Cody vs Lionheart

Theoretically, if this show were to happen, Cody vs Lionheart sounds like the ideal main event. One of the biggest faces in All Elite Wrestling vs one of the biggest faces in Scottish wrestling. Maybe even chuck the ICW World Heavyweight Championship on the line, and give it even bigger bragging rights. A true match of the year contender just by having these two names attached to it.
