At tonight’s NXT UK tapings in Brentwood, England, Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster lost the NXT UK Tag Team Championships to Gallus members Mark Coffey and Wolfgang, marking Coffey and Wolfgang’s first title victory in WWE. Andrews and Webster had held the titles since August 31st when they defeated The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, a match that also involved the Gallus duo.
Wolfgang debuted in 2003, followed seven years later by Mark Coffey in 2010. The pair are synonymous with Scottish wrestling, being two of the biggest names the scene has ever produced. They’ve won championships up and down the country, with both of them previously holding the Insane Championship Wrestling Zero-G Championship, the Scottish Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight and Tag Team Championships, and the World Wide Wrestling League Tag Team Championships, alongside their own unique accomplishments.
Wolfgang is an NXT UK original, having been with the brand since the very first WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament back in January 2017. Meanwhile, Mark Coffey joined the brand in June 2018, first appearing in the crowd as a supporter for brother Joe, who competed in the second annual tournament. Since then, the Gallus trio have run roughshod over NXT UK.
This win makes them the fourth and fifth Scottish wrestlers to hold a championship within WWE. They follow on from Drew McIntyre (WWE Intercontinental Championship, WWE Tag Team Championships (with Cody Rhodes), NXT Championship, and WWE Raw Tag Team Championships (with Dolph Ziggler)), Nikki Cross (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships (with Alexa Bliss), and Kay Lee Ray (NXT UK Women’s Championship).
