Fair City Wrestling’s Empire webshow returned last night, featuring matches from their show from September 13th. The road to ArdlerMania is in full swing with the biggest event in Dundee on September 28th at the Ardler Complex. Tickets still available here.
Retro Randy Valentine defeated SAMUEL w/Eden & Valek by pinfall.
SAMUEL tried his red mist but Randy was wearing his sunglasses to block the attack, a Big Boot (of Doom) sent SAMUEL to the outside for Red Gate to regroup.
It didn’t take long for Red Gate to take advantage, using any referee distraction to get a dig or two into Retro Randy which allowed SAMUEL to wear down the Ruler of Retro with chokes, stomps, and slams.
Randy Retro-Up’d off the back of a suplex to land some haymakers, a Big Boot (of Doom), followed by a Leg Drop of Doom for a two count. Valentine went to the top rope looking to finish the job.
Eden jumped onto the apron to unleash a hell scream but was countered by Randy by way of putting a bucket over her head. It was effective! Eden hurt herself in the confusion, screamed herself silly and off balance, falling off the turnbuckle into the arms of Valek who carried her to the back.
SAMUEL tried to take advantage of the shenanigans but Valentine ducked a clothesline, hit a body slam (of Doom), and finished the match with an Macho Elbow (of Doom).
The Fair City Faithful(TM) love them some Retro Randy Valentine. A big character, providing plenty of nostalgia for an older generation of fans while the audience gets some good ol’ fashioned family friendly colourful wrestling to boot.
We got a little bit of SAMUEL, at the moment he’s a little bit one dimensional but being opposite a big presence like Randy it wouldn’t be an easy job to stand out. The counter to the Eden scream was fun.
Commissioner Kevin Williams entered to announce that the Fair City Rumble will return on Friday October 11th at The Tulloch Institute in Perth.
Bruiser Brad Evans defeated Euan G Mackie by pinfall.
Mackie had to dip, dive, and dodge to try and tire out Evans in the early going, doing anything to avoid having the giant mits of Brad grab him. After a game of hide and seek, Evans eventually got his hands on Mackie, slamming him with delayed vertical suplex.
Evans threw his weight around with some crushing slams. Mackie had to go to the devious well, biting the fingers of Bruiser Brad to get an opening. Bruiser Brad countered a Sliced Bread #2 attempt into a powerslam for a nearfall.
Euan fought back, finally getting Brad down to the ground with a dropkick to the head following a knee to the stomach in the corner. A splash wasn’t enough but Mackie kept on his larger opponent, a springboard stunner could only muster a two, a Sliced Bread #2 was only good for a near fall, a Wheelbarrow DDT still couldn’t keep Evans down.
With Bruiser Brad still breathing, he caught Mackie attempting a seated Senton from the top rope, catching him in a Powerbomb position to ram him back first into the turnbuckle and transition into a Piledriver to score the win.
A fantastic finishing sequence from the Powerbomb to the Piledriver. Two wrestlers who know what they’re about, Mackie the wily trickster and Brad the violent brute, a throwback wrassler. The David versus Goliath plot line is simple but effective. A great match.
Caleb Valhalla defeated Spike Tierney by disqualification.
In what you would think would be speed versus power, Caleb Valhalla busted out some high risk moves to show that he could match agility with the FCW Junior Heavyweight Champion. Spike had to do his best to dodge a rushing Valhalla, managing to send Caleb into the turnbuckle and turning around to be hit with a Rough Ryder.
Any hesitations from Spike were punished with Caleb firing back from a kick to the head with a big spear for a two count. A Helride was countered into a Ripcord Enziguri to send Valhalla to the ground but a Swanton Bomb from Spike couldn’t get the three.
Caleb powered out of an Abra-Kebabra attempt before throwing Spike with a German Suplex to cause a reset to the match. Valhalla powered up, hitting clotheslines in the corner, a launched Fireman’s Carry, and a big Belly to Belly Suplex. Just as it looked like it was game over Spike dragged referee Chris Quinn into the path of a rampaging Caleb, before Tierney decided to low blow the referee to cause the disqualification.
Valhalla wasn’t to be denied, hitting Tierney with a Helride and throwing him out of the ring to close the episode.
This was a fired up crowd, that were well behind Caleb Valhalla throughout the bout. These were two well matched opponents, and though both are of similar heights, the difference in builds and styles made for some nice chemistry between them.
Overall this was a lot of fun. The 50 minutes flew by with three competitive matches to enjoy.
The commentary trio of John Young, Tom Atlas, and Jay Robin provided some nice insight into the stories, while also showing plenty of personality themselves. Atlas settled into role very comfortably while Robin took pleasure in providing some choice barbs towards Atlas about his DE brethren with John bridging the gap to keep the peace.
