Pro2 Wrestling will once again storm the shores of Troon as Ayrshire’s only homegrown wrestling promotion presents ‘BattleLines III’ live from the Walker Hall, and ticket sales project a fully sold-out affair for Ayrshire’s wrestling faithful. This is Pro2’s biggest show to date, and the card is red hot. This article will dissect the six-war event in detail.
The Blood Money Mercs have made it visibly clear on social media that they are disgruntled over not being included in the plans for the show and stated that it would be a shame if things didn’t go well. Whether the dastardly duo have plans to intrude at the Walker Hall is yet to be seen, but Pro2 security will need to be highly alert should they show up.
BMW Tag Team Championships – Lucha Scotland (Lucha DS & Soldato) (c) vs Opulence (Che Monet & Luke Kyro)
Lucha Scotland have been on a tear as tag team champions, racking up impressive wins over an assortment of teams such as The Blood Money Mercs and The Collective, and even managed to dethrone The Alliance for the Pro2 Tag Team Championships. The luchadores have impressively claimed several tag team championships in the world of Scottish professional wrestling, but one team, in particular, is angling for the same levels of success.
Ever since Opulence formed earlier this year, the two immediately discovered great tag team chemistry amongst them, picking up two substantive wins over Meat Factory, and are keen to move up in the tag team division. But, they’re not gunning for the Pro2 Tag Team Championships. Not yet. They want to chip away at Lucha Scotland bit by bit, piece by piece, and it starts by targeting the Big Massive Wrestling Tag Team Championships.
The Big Massive Wrestling Tag Team Championships will see their third cross-promotional title defence in Pro2, with their most recent being Homecoming at the start of Pro2’s 2024 season when Lucha Scotland dethroned The Collective’s Marc Munro and Scott Valentine in a title versus title tag bout featuring Lucha Scotland’s Target Wrestling Tag Team Championships. The titles have seen three different sets of owners in Pro2, but could we see a fourth? Luke Kyro’s newfound attitude and Che Monet’s mean streak have certainly become a toxic combo that is making an imprint on Pro2’s tag team division, but they will have to work hard to ensure that their inexperience as a tag team does not contribute to a potential loss.
Cowboy Rules – Frank Gallo vs Frank X. Cross
“The Madman of Methil Docks” put on a match-of-the-year candidate when he squared off against fellow PWR PRO alum Hunter Samson. Although he lost, he has greatly impressed Pro2 management and they were keen to bring him back. But, they could not have foreseen what he had in mind.
Frank Gallo has studied the Pro2 landscape thoroughly and has put Pro2’s “Struttin’ Sheriff” in his crosshairs in a Battle of the Franks, challenging him to a Cowboy Rules match. In a vignette, he mocked Frank X. Cross’s cowboy persona and predicted that Cross could not throw him over the top rope, with both feet touching the floor – much akin to a battle royal.
Cross has not had a successful year in Pro2. He lost his championship rematch against Davey Blaze at ‘Homecoming’, including his endeavours for the Undisputed Why So Serious? Championship at Rock ‘n’ Rasslin’ during PrestFest against Logan Smith as well as the Ayrshire Heavyweight Championship against TJ Rage at ‘Dominion’, not to mention being unable to return to Rankinston to defend his throne in the King of the Bing Battle Royal.
Now, he approaches the one-year anniversary of his downward spiral, and he is relishing the challenge made by Gallo in the hopes that this could be the wake-up call he needs. But, as the two turn the Walker Hall into a Wild West showdown, who will be the first to be thrown overboard?
Scottish Interpromotional Championship – Davey Blaze (c) w/Charles Boddington vs Sam Taylor
Ayrshire’s own Sam Taylor has impressed Pro2 in both of his outings in the King of the Bing Battle Royal, accumulating a total of two eliminations thus far. Not only that, he has been impressing audiences around Scotland and at British holiday camps with his agility and acrobatic moves. The eighteen-year-old from Kilmarnock has been grinding to earn every opportunity he can get in Pro2 and is improving with age, and that hard work has seemingly paid off as Pro2 management has granted him a championship opportunity against “the Glasgow Gladiator”.
Blaze is approaching his one-year anniversary as Scottish Interpromotional Champion, having defended the belt ruthlessly throughout the year against some of Pro2’s best, with Charles Boddington in tow to provide underhanded assistance to ensure that the belt stays around the waist of Blaze. Blaze’s rugged aggression will be an interesting mix against the nimble high-flying of Killie’s young gun. But, given that he dethroned Frank Cross on his one-year anniversary as Scottish Interpromotional Champion, could déjà vu strike Blaze, or will he continue his reign and make an honest man out of Taylor?
Pro2 Belle’s Championship – Angel Hayze (c) vs KT Mills
“The Polynesian Powerhouse” put on what was arguably the best Belles’ match in Pro2 history when she unsuccessfully challenged Angel Hayze for the division’s championship at King of the Bing 2024. Even though she lost, she and Angel put on a clinic and Pro2 management are keen to see it again, so they have granted KT Mills’ demand for a second opportunity at the gold.
Hayze has been defending the belt valiantly since dethroning Emily Hayden at ‘BattleLines II’ and knows exactly what it takes to take down competitors of all sizes. The firm fan favourite has continuously asked for more challenges, and a double dose of “the Polynesian Powerhouse” is a monumental undertaking. However, Mills has learned her lessons from Rankinston and is keen not to suffer a repeat.
Pro2 Why So Serious? Championship – Logan Smith (c) vs BT Gunn
The popular Logan Smith has fought off all challengers for nearly two years and has made the Why So Serious? Championship one of the most coveted workhorse championships in Scottish professional wrestling – a status that started with “Prizefighter” Dean Ford in what was one of the best modern feuds in the country. He has fought contenders big and small, and, at ‘BattleLines III’, he will be fighting one of Scotland’s modern legends.
BT Gunn will return to Pro2 after a two-year absence after colliding with TJ Rage in a no contest for the Ayrshire Heavyweight Championship in late 2022 at ‘Beach Brawl’. The former NAK co-captain has been one of the most revered veterans on the tartan circuit, winning gold in Scotland’s biggest promotions and main-eventing several major showcases.
In a never-seen-before matchup, Gunn and Smith will no doubt put on a masterpiece for the Pro2 faithful. Gunn is hoping to add a flicker of Ayrshire gold to his collection, and Smith is hoping to continue his record-setting reign just a little bit longer.
Pro2 Ayrshire Heavyweight Championship – TJ Rage (c) w/Charles Boddington vs Hunter Samson
The 6’7” colossus from Fife has come a long way since he debuted at King of the Bing 2023. Having lost scandalously at ‘Homecoming’ earlier in the year thanks to Charles Boddington, the giant declared war on Boddington and his crew. And, after some backstage chicanery from “the Manager of Champions”, Samson’s only path to getting another crack at Rage’s gold was to win the 2024 King of the Bing Battle Royal. Not only did he win the match, he ran roughshod and set several records in the bout before immediately declaring his intention to cash in against Rage at ‘BattleLines III’.
The 20th of October will be day 1,044 in the Reign of Rage, and the Airdrie veteran has been a powerhouse of Pro2’s main event scene, dominating it for three years. He has collided with Scotland’s best to keep Pro2’s top belt, such as Andy Roberts and Grado, and has easily become one of the most detestable wrestlers in the country. He managed to beat Samson before, but the man he is facing in Troon is a completely different machine compared to the one he faced in Drongan. This year-long feud will culminate in a phenomenal main event, and a man in the shadows has been advising the giant. The advice has done many favours for Samson since his ‘Homecoming’ defeat, but he must be able to implement an effective strategy if he is going to dethrone the champion.
