Two shows in two weeks, welcome to some regularly scheduled programming. Episode two featured two more matches from Fair City Wrestling’s Dundee & Angus Pro Wrestling event back in June.
Loser Leaves FCW & DAPW – Luke Matthews defeated Euan G Mackie by pinfall.
Before the bell Shaun Faegan, who accompanied Luke Matthews to the ring, went after Mackie. Matthews dragged him off and sent him to the back – shouting that Faegan could get him disqualified and lose the match.
The distraction gave Euan G Mackie time to recover and dropkick Matthews, dragging Luke to ringside for a brawl by the merch area as the light burst through the Queen’s Hotel doors as Matthews found himself thrown through them.
Mackie kept the flurry of offense going until a springboard back into the ring was met with a right fist to the side of the head to give Luke Matthews the time to capitalise by striking with a hard kick to the back of the neck, and focusing an assault onto the upper body of Mackie.
Some quick reflexes saw Euan kick the knee of Matthews, but was met with a retaliatory twisting senton to put the Shogun back in the driver’s seat. The support rose for Euan G Mackie with his attempts to mount a comeback being fought back but the determination to succeed gave Mackie the opening to strike with Polish Hammers, and running knees into the bread basket.
Matthews wasn’t one to lay down coming back with a jarring knee with the momentum switching back and forth as the desperation started to set in for both to end the match. Both men continued to throw strikes while on their knees, forearms, and headbutts as Mackie got the better of the exchange.
Two Sliced Bread’s and a top rope leg drop had Euan on the home straight but a returning Shaun Faegan rushed the ring and in the chaos left Mackie prone to receive a Curb Stomp from Matthews to end his night.
As Euan removed his boots to symbolise the stipulation, Kevin Williams marched out and declared he would place his boots down in exchange… but after talking about Matthews and Faegan going on about guys like Mackie taking up spots and the General Manager abusing his power, Kev changed his mind and booked Euan G Mackie and himself against Luke Matthews and Shaun Faegan for ‘No Sleep ‘Til Ardler’. Faegan confronted Williams but was sent scarpering to the outside thanks to a Mackie dropkick.
The crowd invested their emotions into this match, which made the pin attempts have an extra bite. Matthews throwing everyone off the scent by demanding Shaun Faegan to leave, only for him to comeback to provide the assist was very good. The in-ring was solid, with the reactions coming up at the right times to will Euan G Mackie on which was effectively deflated when the three count arrived. There was a great reaction for the post-match announcement, with some well placed storytelling beats that worked well with the fans in attendance.
Johnny Pressley entered for his concert but was interrupted by Rich Money who yammed on about charity being a scam, he was eventually goaded into putting his King of the Class crown on the line against Mr Pressley.
DAPW King of the Class – Johnny Pressley defeated Rich Money by pinfall.
After Mr Money handed his crowd off for safekeeping, Pressley dunted Rich with an El Kabong to emulate the King of the Mountain Jeff Jarrett. While Rich Money lay on the ground, an official entered the ring and counted the fall to crown a new King of the Class, Johnny Pressley.
A fun little segment to end the episode that the crowd enjoyed. It’s quite easy to get behind a pompous pillock get smacked with a guitar. Rich Money hyped his role well to bait the crowd, and that heat transferred via the acoustic equaliser for Johnny Pressley to gain the crown and the adulation from the fans.
Of course the main event was more a segment, this episode was really all about Euan G Mackie and Luke Matthews in a well paced match that had plenty of time but didn’t feel like 20 minutes or so which, for me, marks a good bit of sports entertainment. After a muted start in episode one, the audience started to show a signs of life here as they were drawn into the jeopardy of the loser leaves concept.
