Nae Mercy has been and gone and it’s Dundee & Angus Pro Wrestling back at The Queen’s Hotel in Dundee for the latest edition of Fair City Wrestling Empire.
The episode opened with a ten bell salut to Scott “The Butcher” Renwick, whom had passed away recently before this event took place. A lot was said at the time with tributes from everyone that had a moment in the mere presence of Scott all coming out with glowing praise of a family man, a man that loved the people he worked with, and loved the people that watched him live out a dream of being a professional wrestler. A positive light in Scottish professional wrestling that will be missed.
The Filth & The Fury (Jay Robin & Sami Sparx) defeated Tommy Raiden & Rich Money by pinfall.
It was a tense opening with Tommy Raiden rushing out to square up to Jay Robin before his tag team partner’s music even hit, to Rich Money slapping Sami Sparx across the face to rile The Chaotic Luchador. Money and Raiden did a little cocky pose on the turnbuckles, which baited Sparx and Robin to do the same that lead to a sneak attack by the dastardly pair. The Filth & The Fury bounced back to send Raiden out of the ring for the match to officially start between Sami Sparx and Rich Money. Money was isolated as Jay Robin went to deliver a Tower of London that wasn’t super clean for Raiden to dive in to break the pin attempt that followed.
Money and Raiden took control, choosing Jay Robin as their victim. Rich Money started messing with Tommy Raiden, faking tags and not bringing Raiden in. Robin tried for a running knee that was ducked with Money keeping the upper hand with a teardrop suplex and a nice running basement neckbreaker to Jay. Tommy tagged in against Money’s wishes to get in on the action and continuing the pressure on Jay Robin. Jay caught Raiden for a Gory Bomb but Rich Money dove in to break it up and dragged Tommy to the corner to tag himself in.
A bit more miscommunication from Money and Raiden had Robin push them both back to tag in Sami Sparx, who ran riot against the pair. Rich and Tommy retreated to the outside to regroup with Money leaving Raiden to slide back in and quickly outnumbered into a backdrop/sit-out powerslam to give the win to The Filth & The Fury.
This change in Rich Money is excellent, an added aggression and an edge that suits him. The arrogance to not bring in Tommy, which wasn’t diluted when he actually needed the assist was well done. Raiden getting into it with Jay Robin before the bell was a nice touch to get across his unhinged nature. There wasn’t an awful lot of tag team dynamic but the finish backdrop/sit-out powerslam was cool.
Lex Loomis was in the woods to talk about his upcoming match with Shaun Faegan, there was a bear called Fergus and an amp randomly in the forest. It was a whole thing.
Ian Ambrose defeated Stan The Slav King by pinfall.
Eddie Devine and Miles Ambrose were immediately ejected from the match as they entered the with Ian Ambrose, in contrast to Patryk Peterski voluntarily leaving after entering with his Cheeki Breeki comrade.
After Ambrose broke the tie up with a jab, Stan went for a double leg to take down Ian and started punching while Ambrose tried to cover up. A rattled Ian Ambrose rolled to the outside, catching a rushing Stan with an uppercut to put the match back into his favour. Ambrose went about assaulting Stan with strikes and suplexes but couldn’t get the desired three count. A corner charge had Stan evade the former FCW Heavyweight Champion to open up the match, a duo of corner dropkicks had Ambrose seated on the canvas and looking up at a Stan The Slav King basement clothesline for a near fall.
Stan’s Vodka Shot running knee missed the mark and collided with the turnbuckle. Ambrose smelled blood for a dragged up back suplex to drive Stan to the mat. Stan went for a Code Red in response for two as neither gave an inch. The trade off of forearms and boots went back and forth. Ian was knocked off the apron and started favouring his previously injured knee, with the referee checking in on Ambrose, Eddie Devine interjected to smash Stan with a chainmail covered fist. Ian rushed into make the pin but Stan kicked out, Ambrose quickly struck with a cutter to finish the job.
Devine and Miles Ambrose stotted out to celebrate, a post-match attack and the beginnings of a head shaving was put to an by Patryk Peterski with the Ambrose clan making a swift exit.
A solid match, Stan got some spirited comebacks, while Ian Ambrose got to show this more focused side that has been engaged since the aftermath of the Fair City Rumble. The immediate sending back of Miles and Eddie provided enough subtle foreshadowing for the surprise return of Eddie Devine to the match. There was a lot of good things happening. Patryk with the heroic keeps his stock strong. A well layered match to keep the thread of Ambrose versus Peterski well maintained.
It was another episode of FCW Empire that flew by. Two good matches, one to establish a new team while also giving time to their opponents to show more of their individual endeavours, whilst the other kept the an ongoing issue continuing and adding a further personal element to the story.
Before the episode ended Stan The Slav King and Patryk Peterski gathered backstage with Stan declaring that before it was just business to back up Patryk, but after a head shaving it was now personal with the challenge set for a future show, Cheeki Breeki versus The Scum Bucks.
