By The Masked Embroiderer

When I asked Judas Grey to take part in our Top 5 series I was intrigued by his choice of the Wrestlemania 34 ‘Mardi Gras’ New Orleans stage set. And when he admitted to having a Mardi Gras Mask tattoo then I knew he had to be another guest in our Tattoo series too.

He did warn me that he is a bit of a narcissist and that this might possibly be one of my longest articles yet but it was a chance I gladly took. So here we are back in the SWN Behind the Art tattooists chair with Judas Grey.

Obvious question first of course. Judas, what tattoos have you got?

We shall start at the beginning and with the most sentimental one “Kirsten” across the chest. This tattoo isn’t an ex-girlfriend don’t worry it’s the name of the woman who made me who I am today my mother. She passed when I was young and before I started trying to get into a career that means my chest is on constant display I wanted something small and meaningful for my first tattoo something I knew in years to come I wouldn’t hate but also big enough that if it hurt I would know I couldn’t survive a big one.

Next up is my shoulder piece. I got my lantern when I was 18 and it was something I always knew I wanted. I’m a huge Lucifer fan (the show, but the devil’s cool too) so I got this big old style lantern with a little engraving in it that says “light bringer” which is the rough translation of lucifer in English it was my longest tattoo and low key my favourite. Soz mum!

Simply put I am a DC boy through and through so Batman is my guy.

Mine too

But I love the villains, one of which is Scarecrow so I got a scarecrow in a corn field with bats instead of crows flying away (on my bicep). I just like the little touches like that.

Fourth is the grim reaper/guillotine tattoo. The reaper is there more to fill space more than anything but I guess death is the overall image but the meaning is actually based of the name of a song by my favourite artist Jon Bellion.

We move onto what everyone says is the “Scouts” tattoo but no. My Fleur-de-lis and Mardi Gras mask tattoo probably the one I get the most compliments for as it’s the most visible but this is a double I guess. The idea came from my love for the tv show “The Originals” but as previously stated before I would love to go to New Orleans and my favourite WrestleMania stage was in New Orleans.

It was your choice of that stage in our Top 5 article that intrigued me. What is it about New Orleans that attracts you?

I like the aesthetic and the overall vibe. I enjoy how lively it looks and more specifically during Mardi Gras. All the colours and amazing outfits, the big exotic masks, the parties, just the energy from the people looks so fun and I just always think of the WrestleMania stage they had with the giant mask for I think 34 and how cool I thought it was.

I definitely can agree with you there. I think it’s probably one of the best stages they’ve ever made. Very iconic. And New Orleans does look like a party kinda town.

What other tattoos have you got?

Then the filler I’ll quickly run through. Number 13 I just really like the films Friday the 13th. Moth well my mate said get a moth and the writing on the back of my arm was in the nun and translated in the nun as “god ends here” (I don’t think I’ll be welcomed into heaven at this rate).

I then got my leg tattoos a black heart which is an inside joke with my friend and my anime piece consisting of Tanjiro from Demon Slayer, Levi from Attack on Titan, and Mikey from Tokyo Revengers.

Lastly my hand I love the holiday season and Halloween specifically so I asked for something Halloween related and we ended up on a Jack O’Lantern.

You’ve got a fair few and such a wide variety. But are there any that you’ve seen that you are jealous of or admire?

Yeah loads, too many to name. Tattoos are just so cool when done well. I’ll definitely get more tattoos but for now this is it.

Do you enjoy the whole process?

I mean most of mine have felt pretty easy. When it gets near the end and too the whites it’s pretty annoying but other than my bicep which was hell I’d say most were pretty chill.

Well, there you have it. Judas Grey thank you very much once again.
