OSWtv Meets… Sammie Jo

When did you start watching wrestling and was there a moment that got you hooked?

I used to watch wrestling when I was younger with my brothers. Which used to lead to us all throwing each other off of bunk beds! I laugh when I think back!!! I loved watching Lita, she was who I looked up to, she didn’t care if she was in the ring with the guys or girls!

I fell away from wrestling as I approached my adult years until I attended an ICW show at the end of 2013. That’s where I saw Nikki Storm and Carmel v The Owens Twins with Kay Lee Ray as the guest referee. I saw real women doing this!!! I was hooked from then, attended as many shows as I could from then, SWA, BCW, Pride, PWE, ICW to name a few!

What made you decide to start training to be a wrestler and where did you start?

When I saw those five women at that ICW show, it was then I reminisced back to my childhood. I thought then, maybe this was something I could do!!! I went back to the gym to get myself into shape and started training at the end of June 2014 at the Source Wrestling School and have never looked back!!!

Who are your biggest influences in professional wrestling?

Definitely Lita, I wasn’t a big fan of the attitude era when it came to women’s wrestling but Lita showed me that women could do it!

Nowadays, Nikki Cross (Storm) is a major influence. She has helped me in training and her attitude to training, and life, is incredible.

Mikey Whiplash has also been an incredible influence and mentor. His approach to wrestling, especially women’s wrestling, is second to none. He, like Nikki, has pushed me to work harder that I possibly imagined myself to ever do!!!

Do you have any favourite matches or opponents that you have worked with?

I absolutely love working with Bae Club. Sammii Jayne and Debbie Sharp are a force to be reckoned with! They are unique and bring amazing comedy to a match. They are both incredibly skilled and I can’t wait to face them again!!!

And finally, who would be your dream opponent, past or present?

Wow! Dream opponent…I am loving the women in WWE at present and would love to face off against them all!!! I think it would be a call between Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks!
