WrestleZone return to The Northern Hotel on September 9th for their annual Battle of the Nations event. This year sees the inaugural WWE United Kingdom Champion, Tyler Bate, make his way to The Granite City. He replaced the current champion, Pete Dunne, who was unable to appear due to a WWE contracted engagement in London. Not a bad replacement as it is the other half of, what many think, the best match in WWE this year after their encounter in Chicago over the WWE UK Championship.
He joins a packed line up with three championships on the line, the annual Battle of the Nations and a vicious grudge match that will miraculous if it stays within the confines of the The Northern Hotel.
Six matches, plus a bonus match for those that purchased VIP tickets, makes for an exciting event with a little bit of everything. Let’s start the preview.
Crusher Craib got injured at Aberdeen Anarchy back in 2016 when his top rope dive ended up leaving him lying on the canvas with a broken hip socket. He disappeared from WrestleZone to recover and was first seen again at this years event to announce his return to the ring at Battle of the Nations. In a shocking turn of events, Craib revealed that he had joined Sterling Oil by booting his opponent from Aberdeen Anarchy, Scotty Swift, and allowing Shawn Johnson to pick up the scraps and the Undisputed WrestleZone Championship. Since then Craib has picked his moments to attack Swift after matches and just cause destruction whenever he sees fit. We rarely see the side of Swift that is merciless in revenge but the constant attacks must be taking a toll on the former champion and it’s only a matter of time until he reaches a breaking point.
The annual Battle of the Nations has the likes of Drew Galloway and Doug Williams compete on behalf of their country. This year marks Andy Wild’s third Battle of the Nations match, with a win-loss record of 1-1, the tiebreaker comes in the form of Mr P, who has been at the receiving end of some ‘wild’ beatings at the hands of the Englishman. Mr P isn’t one to back down but after Wild was embarrassed at Aberdeen Anarchy from suffering a stink face from Rikishi, he has been in no mood to take things easy. Mr P is going to have to dig down deep into his reserves as Wild will be feral.
The wild night continues with The Rejected once again defending their WrestleZone Tag Team Championships against The Sterling Brothers. William and Alan watched Archer and Vago shave the head of their manager Richard R Russell at Aberdeen Anarchy, with Russell set to return at Battle of the Nations with a ‘hair transplant’ and he will be out The Rejected
toupeeto pay for the embarrassment suffered in the form of the belts they have held since last years Christmas Chaos event.
Aspen Faith defends his Tri-Counties Championship against one of the most experienced in WrestleZone, ‘Tenacious’ Johnny Lions. A match that has a bit of history as Faith defeated Lions on route to becoming the inaugural WrestleZone Tri-Counties Champion. It has been quite a number of years since Lions has held a single title in WrestleZone and he comes up against the King of Catch, one of the most technically sound and calculating competitors in the company. A man that, no doubt, has studied every weakness and has formulated a counter to all of the offense that Lions is known for. Could be a chess game of a match and Faith is the King.
The Undisputed WrestleZone Championship is also on the line when Shawn Johnson of Sterling Oil takes on a former Undisputed WrestleZone Champion in Joe Coffey and the wildcard in this one, Zach Dynamite. Johnson must be fuming that Damien has overshadowed him at this event and will bring that frustration into this bout. Coffey comes in on the role of his life while Dynamite could perhaps throw a spanner into the works.
And finally, WrestleZone management needed to pick one of the best to represent their company against the former WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate. In a surprising choice, considering his current run in the promotion, they went with the first WrestleZone Undisputed Champion, Damien. Damien, though is solid in the ring, has been on a bit of bad form. The black sheep of Sterling Oil was humbled when chosen to face Bate. Perhaps ‘The Revolutionary’ has seen the light and a stand out performance at The Northern Hotel will give him the push to finally break away from Sterling Oil and set his sights on Shawn Johnson. You can feel the tension when the two are in the room and with Johnson recently abandoning Damien during a tag bout, what will finally be the straw that breaks the camel’s back?
All this plus a bonus match between the young Nathan North against the a WrestleZone veteran Bryan Tucker, for those VIP ticket holders, to round off a loaded event. Make sure you grab your ticket from http://www.ringsideworld.com.
