Hidden Gems: Kenny Omega vs Dickie Divers

Kenny Omega vs Dickie Divers

Before Kenny Omega was part of The Bullet Club, The Elite or cracking seven star matches in Japan, “The Cleaner” was in Pollokshaws to face Dickie Divers for Scottish Wrestling Alliance at the Burgh Hall on March 10th, 2013. In a fantastic back and forth bout, Omega and Divers took each other to the limit.

Reflecting about the match in a 2014 interview with Snapmare Necks, Divers said that “wrestling Kenny Omega was a great experience, because he’s a guy I love watching myself, so getting the chance to actually be in the ring with him was brilliant. What people don’t know about that match is that I was probably the most unwell I’d ever been in my life so the match had to be toned down!”

Since this match in 2013, Kenny Omega is widely considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world following his stint in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The Canadian is tag team champion with Adam ‘Hangman’ Page in All Elite Wrestling, a company where he serves as an executive vice president as well as an in-ring talent. Dickie Divers is no slouch himself, after picking up championships and accolades around Scotland, he’s currently part of the set up at Reckless Intent Wrestling as well as training the next generation as Head Coach at the Lothian Academy of Professional Wrestling. Divers’ is still putting in a shift around the country every time he steps into the ring, in singles action or as part of The Nine9 with Jack Morris.

This was Kenny Omega’s only singles match [according to Cagematch.net] in Scotland with his only return [as of writing] to the country being in 2017 as part of Discovery Wrestling’s ‘The Elite’ event, teaming with The Young Bucks in a six man tag team match in a packed Edinburgh Corn Exchange.
