WrestleZone are set to make the first of two stops at Aberdeen’s Northern Hotel of the year this Saturday night, as they present the 2018 Regal Rumble. With this year being WrestleZone’s tenth anniversary, management have gone all out to make it the best Regal Rumble possible. A 25-man Rumble Match, 3 fantastic championship matches, a huge announcement. This is a show not to be missed!
2018 Regal Rumble Match
Announced Entrants; Damien (entering at number 1), Blue Thunder, Scotty Swift, Jack Jester, Mr P, Chris Archer, Mikkey Vago, Aspen Faith, Jason Reed, William Sterling, Alan Sterling, Nathan North, Zach Dynamite, Bryan Tucker, Johnny Lions, Andy Wild, Lord Michael of Graham, Krieger, Lou King Sharp, Lewis Girvan, Dino Del Monte, Bradley Evans, Crusher Craib and Richard R. Russell (entering at number 25)
The main event for the evening will see the biggest match on the WrestleZone calendar, the 2018 Regal Rumble Match. This year sees 25 competitors enter the fray, all with the goal of main eventing Aberdeen Anarchy X for a shot at the Undisputed Championship. In there, we’ve got previous winners such as Scotty Swift and Jack Jester, we’ve got big powerhouses like Crusher Craib and Andy Wild, we’ve got young up and comers like Nathan North and Bradley Evans. With one of the most stacked lineups to date, here are my five picks to win it all;
Think it’s fair to say most people are expecting a victory for Damien. Even though he’s entering at number one, that doesn’t mean he’s got no chance of winning. Just look at Bryan Tucker in 2011, he started the match and went on to win the whole thing. Damien main eventing Aberdeen Anarchy against Shawn Johnson would be a perfect culmination to the ongoing story.
Richard R. Russell
Yes, really. Hear me out on this one, Russell now has the best number in the match after striking a deal with Alan Sterling and will also have three other guys in there watching his back. Of course they’re going to protect him at all costs. If they get to the end of the match together, you’d have to imagine Crusher, Alan and William would simply eliminate themselves to give the victory to Russell. Anything to ensure a Sterling Oil victory for the second year running.
A favourite here at SWN every year when it comes to The Regal Rumble Match, Aspen Faith has had mixed fortunes when it comes to entering the contest. Although he has a huge four way title defence earlier in the night, The King of Catch has to be considered one of the favourites to win it all given his current success all over the UK. With his usual Kings of Catch partner Lewis Girvan also in the match, maybe they’ll work together to eliminate some of the opposition.
Andy Wild is one of the larger guys in the match, meaning not only will he be harder to eliminate, but it’ll be easier for him to throw some of the smaller participants over the top. Having been victorious in Discovery Wrestling’s Disco Derby at the start of the year, the Englishman knows what it takes to get the job done in this kind of situation.
The Mystery Competitor
WrestleZone management have announced 24 of the 25 names for the match, leaving 1 as a mystery competitor. Could it be a return? Could it be a debut? No-one knows, so no-one can prepare for whoever it may be. Gives them a much higher chance of winning the whole thing.
Triple Threat Match for the Undisputed WrestleZone Championship
Jack Jester vs Shawn Johnson (c) vs Lewis Girvan
In a match that’s worth the price of admission alone, Shawn Johnson will defend the Undisputed Championship for the first time since regaining the gold in January in a colossal Triple Threat Match against two men making their return to The Granite City as we welcome back former champ Jack Jester and Lewis Girvan. The Sterling Oil member was only able to become a two-time champ after Richard R. Russell entered the ring and low blowed Damien behind the referee’s back, allowing Shawn to pick up the scraps. But he’s got himself in a bit of a difficult situation now as he comes up against two of the UK’s very best. First off is Jack Jester, a man who decimated Johnson after arriving in WrestleZone back in 2013. Jester hasn’t been seen since Aberdeen Anarchy 2015, where he defeated Shawn’s then-tag partner Bryan Tucker. While he’s been away from WrestleZone, he’s been making a name for himself all over the UK. Then we have Lewis Girvan. When looking at the accolades of the three men in this match, you may class Girvan as the odd one out, with Johnson and Jester both having held the Undisputed Championship as well as being former winners of The Regal Rumble Match. Despite never having won any titles in a WrestleZone ring, The Renegade recently came off a 666-day reign as Y Division Champion down in Discovery Wrestling, during which he shared a ring with the likes of NJPW’s Kenny Omega, Lucha Underground’s Shane Strickland and Bullet Club member Marty Scurll, proving time and time again that he is more than capable of hanging with the best of the best. Shawn Johnson may have bitten off more than he can chew with this one!
Fatal Four Way Match for the WrestleZone Tri-Counties Championship
Mr P vs Andy Wild vs Aspen Faith (c) vs Johnny Lions
Aspen Faith will put his Tri-Counties Championship up for grabs in a huge Fatal Four Way Match against Mr P, Andy Wild and Johnny Lions. Since regaining the gold from Zach Dynamite towards the end of January, The King of Catch has made successful defences against Mikkey Vago, Damien and Scotty Swift, but now finds himself across the ring from three guys gunning to get championship gold back around their waist. First off is Mr P, a former 2x Tag Team Champion. P challenged Aspen for the gold during his first reign this past September, but the match ended in a time limit draw following a distraction from Nathan North. Then there’s Andy Wild, a former Undisputed Champion. The unstoppable Englishman made it to the quarterfinals of the inaugural championship tournament, before losing to Bryan Tucker. Wild will surely want to be holding championship gold en-route to The Beach Ballroom. Finally, there’s Johnny Lions, a former 2x Undisputed Champion and Tag Team Champion. The Tenacious One was eliminated from the quarterfinals of the tournament at the hands of Aspen Faith, and also failed to dethrone The King of Catch at last September’s Battle of the Nations. The odds don’t look good for Aspen Faith to leave The Northern Hotel with the gold around his waist.
WrestleZone Tag Team Championships
The Rejected (Chris Archer & Mikkey Vago) (c) vs Lou King Sharp & Krieger
The Tag Team Championships will also be on the line at The Northern Hotel as The Rejected defend the gold against a new team, with Lou King Sharp and Krieger both making their return to WrestleZone but for the first time as a tandem. Throughout 2017, The Rejected found themselves in a fantastic series of matches against The Sterling Brothers, with the two teams swapping the titles back and forth. The 12 month rivalry saw The Rejected earn the respect of the fans, Richard R. Russell being shaved bald and Mikkey Vago suffering a concussion at the hands of Alan Sterling but in the end, it was The Rejected who had the last laugh as they won a Christmas Brawl in the final battle between the two pairings. After retaining against the team of Andy Wild and Jason Reed in January, Archer and Vago now find themselves against a team that they’re not so familiar with. WrestleZone fans will recognise Lou King Sharp, but they may not know as much about his best friend in the whole world Krieger, with his only WrestleZone appearance coming at last year’s Proving Grounds event. When Sharp and Krieger aren’t doing a sexy dance or being pure dead brilliant, they’re defending the PBW Tag Team Championships. Will they be able to add another set of tag belts to put around their waists?
No DQ Match
Scotty Swift vs Crusher Craib
For the first time since being putting on the shelf, Scotty Swift will return to the scene of the crime as he takes on the man who injured him Crusher Craib, with WrestleZone management removing all rules. This rivalry stems all the way back to Aberdeen Anarchy 2016, where Crusher challenged Scotty for the Undisputed Championship. After missing a dive off the top rope, The Creator of Carnage was sidelined with a broken hip socket. One year later, Scotty found himself defending against Shawn Johnson at last year’s Aberdeen Anarchy event. Crusher Craib, who returned earlier in the night to announce his return to action, came to ringside to save Swift from the interfering members of Sterling Oil, only to boot him in the face and rejoin Sterling Oil, handing the gold to Johnson in the process. Crusher and Scotty faced off in September at Battle of the Nations, where Crusher decimated Swift with three big boots and a curb stomp, forcing referee Dennis Law to stop the match. The Red Haired Warrior returned at the end of 2017, saving former rival and then-Undisputed Champion Damien from a Sterling Oil beatdown. A second match between the two fierce rivals came at January’s Summerhill Showdown event, with Swift being disqualified after using a steel chair. Their most recent altercation came in Peterhead earlier this month, where Crusher interfered in Scotty’s main event match against Aspen Faith, allowing Aspen to remain the Tri-Counties Champion. Another chapter will be written in this bitter rivalry come Saturday night!
WrestleZone management have also announced they’ll be revealing the first former WWE superstar for Aberdeen Anarchy X this Saturday night. William Sterling voiced his opinions, saying he wants to see Demolition Smash coming to Aberdeen Anarchy. Who do you hope to see coming to The Beach Ballroom on September 1st?
Tickets for the show are available from www.ringsideworld.co.uk, priced at £12 for adults and £10 for under 14s, with pay at the door entry available on the night aswell. VIP tickets can also be bought online, priced at £15. Doors open at 6pm for VIP ticket holders where they can watch a bonus match, with general admission ticket holders gaining entry at 6:30.
