Preview: Pro Wrestling Elite ‘7th Anniversary Show’

Seven years of Pro Wrestling Elite will be celebrated on Saturday night with the company set to host the anniversary event from Ayr’s Citadel Centre. Along with a host of fantastic matches including 2018 Elite Rumble winner Kenny Williams getting his opportunity at the PWE Heavyweight Championship, former WWE superstar The Hurricane will also make his debut!

PWE Heavyweight Championship
Joe Hendry (c) w/Leyton Buzzard vs Kenny Williams

After winning the 2018 Elite Rumble Match in March, Kenny Williams cemented his spot in the main event of the seventh anniversary show with a guaranteed opportunity at the PWE Heavyweight Championship against Joe Hendry. The Lucky Yin entered early on in the match and went through an absolute onslaught of tough opposition, lastly tossing out Bram to earn the championship match. As he and Hendry stared each other down afterwards, The Prestigious One’s intern Leyton Buzzard ambushed Kenny from behind as Joe went full-fledged prestigious in PWE. While this is the main event in Ayr, both men are also doing rather well elsewhere with Kenny in NXT UK and Joe set to be part of the World of Sport reboot at the end of the month. Who will head towards the next chapter of their careers as the PWE Heavyweight Champion?

Gauntlet Match for the PWE Tag Team Championships
The Kinky Party (Jack Jester & Sha Samuels) (c) vs Bram & Mikey Whiplash vs The Purge (Stevie James & Krobar) vs The Govan Team (Ravie Davie & Cousin Zander)

The Tag Team Championships are set to be defended as new champions The Kinky Party will run the gauntlet against three other teams (or more if Lionheart has a surprise up his sleeve). Jack Jester and Sha Samuels were scheduled to face off against each other at PWE’s most recent show at the start of May but opted to instead drink in the ring. As a result, Lionheart put them in a Tag Team Championship match against Polo Promotions, a match they would go on to win to become the new champions. They’ve got quite the challenge in their first defence, two teams looking to make their name known around the UK as well as two of the UK’s biggest names coming together to form a possibly unstoppable unit. Pro Wrestling Elite put it in the best way on their Facebook page when they said the party could be over before it’s even started. Only time will tell.

The Hurricane vs Jackie Polo

Former WWE and Impact superstar The Hurricane is coming to Ayr for some Just Justice as he faces Jackie Polo. Hurricane wasn’t necessarily the most accomplished star in WWE in terms of winning the bigger achievements, but he did manage to get himself a handful of reigns with the Cruiserweight, Hardcore, and Tag Team Championships. He typically comes along as a superhero, something that Jackie Polo won’t take too kindly to. While his Just Justice character has been an ICW exclusive so far, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Polo taking it to other promotions. The match graphic currently has him in his Polo Promotions gear, however the beeeeeesssssstttttt tag team in Scotland seem to be going their separate ways in the majority of promotions they compete for. Having just lost the Tag Team Championships, this could be the next stepping stone in Jackie Polo’s PWE career…

BT Gunn vs Chris Renfrew

A battle between former New Age Kliq brethren will rock The Citadel Centre as BT Gunn faces Chris Renfrew. The NAK had been the backbone of Pro Wrestling Elite’s tag team division for many years, holding the Tag Team Championships on two separate occasions (as well as being the inaugural champions) and facing the likes of Billy Gunn, X-Pac, The UK Hooligans, and Martin Kirby. It was last year’s sixth anniversary show where their second reign as Tag Team Champions came to an end thanks to The Hooligans, followed by failing to regain the titles on night two. This put Renfrew over the edge as he dropped Gunn with a Stone Cold Stoner. Since then, The Oddity has attempted to reconcile with Renfrew to no avail, shown when Renfrew eliminated Gunn from May’s Elite Rumble Match. Imagine if they do get back together though and enter that Gauntlet Match? It probably won’t be happening, but who knows these days.

Khifie West w/Red Lightning vs Lionheart

At Pro Wrestling Elite’s show in May, Khifie West demanded a match at the seventh anniversary which was refused by Lionheart, resulting in the newest client to RUDO Sports and Entertainment Brand assaulting the owner. Following Lionheart’s victory over Andy Wild later that evening, Khifie attempted to further attack Lionheart but this time he countered and granted West a match this Saturday against him. It’s not often Lionheart steps in to the ring at a PWE event but when he does, it’s only when he wants to prove a point to his roster members (or in some cases, when a replacement is needed at the last second). Khifie has been running his mouth for too long and everyone is sick of it, especially The Dugfather. With Red Lightning in his corner however, you never know what sort of tricks he’ll pull out.

Jordan Devlin vs Andy Wild

Jordan Devlin again returns to Scotland for his PWE debut, squaring off with Andy Wild in a match originally scheduled to take place at Discovery Wrestling’s show in March. Both competitors have been making their names known all over the UK,Β  with Devlin joining the NXT UK roster after competing in both instalments of the United Kingdom Championship Tournament. Andy Wild meanwhile has been on a massive resurgence for the past two years, winning huge matches wherever he goes. It’s a surprise that the leader of The Wild Boys has been omitted from both NXT UK and World of Sport, especially considering he had a WWE tryout in November. Matches against stars the calibre of Jordan Devlin could put him on the map to get signed to a contract from either side.

Fatal Four Way Match
Iestyn Rees vs Wolfgang vs Charlie Sterling vs Joe Coffey

A massive Fatal Four Way Match rounds out the card for Saturday with Iestyn Rees, Wolfgang, Charlie Sterling, and Joe Coffey colliding. On paper, this match is a bit random, just four big powerhouses going at it. However it could potentially place any of them in line for an opportunity at the Heavyweight Championship somewhere down the line. Iestyn has been announced for World of Sport, Wolfgang and Joe will be featured on NXT UK, and Charlie’s also there. Let’s just hope the ring can contain these four huge personalities; they’ve got huge career-changing moments coming their way so they can’t afford to be picking up and injuries at this stage.

A promo video for Saturday’s event has been released on the PWE Facebook page;

As of writing, general admission tickets can still be bought from, priced at Β£12.75 or a group ticket for Β£45.
