Welcome to Starter For 10. We ask professional wrestlers 10 questions so that you can find out a bit more about your favourite real life superheroes.
On this edition, Dino Del Monte answers our questions.
What drew you into professional wrestling?
I think the combination of combat and characters really drew me in. It has a combination of everything comedy, drama, violence and even horror at times so it always kept it interesting to me. Most of the guys I knew idolised footballers. I idolised wrestlers.
Who were your favourite wrestlers growing up and who are your favourites now?
Growing up I was a fan of Undertaker, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena & Batista. I took a hiatus from wrestling around 2008 and got back into it about 2014. It was then I discovered all the different wrestling promotions outside of WWE which introduced me to my current favourites who are Chris Hero and Adam Cole. I also started watching older AJPW, NWA, WOS etc and absolutely love the work of Stan Hansen and the Funks (mainly Terry) and Rollerball Rocco.
What made you decide to start training to be a wrestler and where did you start?
I wanted to become a wrestler as soon as I saw ‘Big Evil’ Undertaker on TV but back then there was no opportunities anywhere near me but I finally told myself in November 2016 that I would follow the childhood dream. So when I discovered the WrestleZone Training Academy 10 minutes from my work, I instantly jumped at the chance.
Who are your biggest influences in professional wrestling, as a fan and as a wrestler?
As a fan, Undertaker is a big influence as every time he stepped into the ring I believed that he was really this other dimensional spirit and I was never disappointed whenever he was in the ring. As a wrestler, Chris Hero is a big influence as he has mastered every style of wrestling and can have a good match with anyone.
Who has been your favourite opponent(s) and do you have a favourite match?
My favorite opponents and my favorite match are Bradley Evans & Kaden Garrick from our triple threat at Battle of the Nations. I feel like going up against two powerhouses really pushed me to the limit and tested my toughness.
What has been your career highlight(s) so far?
Career highlight was making my debut at the Regal Rumble and showing the WrestleZone crowd that Dino Del Monte is not to be taken lightly, no matter what people may think when they first look at me.
Who would be your dream opponent, past or present?
Dream opponent would either be The Undertaker just to fulfill the childhood dreams of my 8 year old self.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Hard to say as anything can be around the corner but in 5 years time I would hope to be working for more promotions and make a good reputation for myself as a wrestler.
Where can we find you on social media?
You can find me on twitter @monte_dino. A Facebook and Instagram will be following soon.
And finally, why do you do what you do?
I do what I do because I love it and nothing and no one will ever stop me.
Thank you to Dino for answering our ‘Starter For 10’.
