Insane Championship Wrestling returned to action at The Garage for a packed card of professional wrestling. Let’s take a look at some of the talking points coming out of tonight.
YouTube Gets Insane
After the apparent demise of Triller+, Insane Championship Wrestling announced earlier in the day that Wubba Lubba Dub Dub would be streamed live on a new subscription tier of their YouTube channel, bringing the insanity live on YouTube.
A big shift for ICW, a more accessible platform but the risk being that the subscription is for only ICW which means their potential footfall is narrower. However, I hope that means members not only get to enjoy ICW live, including The Insane NORTH Weekender, but also get access to Blockbuster and GPWA events in the near future along with building a Scottish wrestling archive of content.
Vanity Get Dangerous
The Dangerous Brothers managed to ward off the NORTH invasion of George Hunter and Kemper to keep a hold of the ICW World Tag Team Championships in a hard fought defence.
Kez Evans put the call out to all challengers, with Judas Grey and the debuting Ronan King aka Vanity making their way out to size up the ICW World Tag Team Champions ahead of The Insane NORTH Weekender. Evans and BT Gunn gave Vanity a warm welcome to the title hunt in the form of stereo superkicks.
Two outstanding tag teams set to clash for the first time ever, the weekender just got bigger.
Kings To Collide In The Capital
It was turnabout being fair play with Lost Boy Aspen getting his hands on The Girvans before their scheduled match could take place. Fraser took a spill on the stage to set the tone with Aspen producing a pair of scissors to cut open his former Kings of Catch tag team partner.
The chaos was interrupted by a Just Stop Insanity protester, with Fraser Girvan recovering to start brawling with Aspen as the security team tried to separate everyone.
Aspen grabbed the microphone and put the challenge out for a showdown at a venue that’s very special for The Kings of Catch. August 15th. Edinburgh Corn Exchange. The Insanity Show. Edinburgh Street Fight.
A venue where they have shared the ring with The Young Bucks, a venue that they have faced off before over 10 years ago, blood will be spilled.
A Mixed Fortunes For The Scum Of The Earth
Kenny Williams came into Wubba Lubba Dub Dub faced against the prospect of a three on one handicap match against Colton Davis and KOE. Arcade Violence had his back for what looked like one night only in a victorious six man tag team match.
It wouldn’t be the last time we’d see The Scum of the Earth, interrupting the injured Emersyn Jayne to throw out the challenge to defend the NORTH Ultraviolent Championship on June 21st once he officially takes it from Scotty Rawk on June 20th as part of The Insane NORTH Weekender. It was accepted by The Badass who took her leave after a handshake.
Colton Davis and KOE returned to spoil the party, attacking Williams until Aaron Echo made his return to Insane Championship Wrestling to fight off the trio and embrace Kenny Williams. Kenny has back up, and he’s a big lad.
It looks like the issues between Colton Davis and Kenny Williams is about to take an even more violent turn.
Grand Slam Coffey
It was a wild end of the first half of Wubba Lubba Dub Dub, an impromptu beginning to the scheduled ICW World Heavyweight Championship triple threat ended with one of the biggest upsets in recent ICW history. Jason Reed dethroned Rhio to lift the ICW World Heavyweight Championship, pinning the third person in the bout, and long time rival, Dylan Thorn to grab a title that many think should of been his a long time ago.
Fast forward to the main event featuring Mark Coffey against Landon Riley with Mark’s Square Go! briefcase in the balance. Thanks to a little help from Ben Rodgers, Coffey rattled his forearm off the jaw of Riley and snatched back his briefcase.
Reed returned to smugly show off his new trophy, squaring up to The Power Forward and basking in the vitriol inside The Garage. While said-basking took place, Mark handed the briefcase of referee Thomas Kearins to trigger a cash in much to the shock of the unprepared Staunch Superstar.
In a match full of edge of the seat near falls, Mark Coffey planted Jason Reed with the Tiger Bomb to lift the one title that had alluded him in Insane Championship Wrestling, marking only the third Grand Slam champion in ICW history after BT Gunn and Stevie Boy.
Mark rallied the troops in victory, citing the win being the culmination of the worst year of his life and that him becoming champion was thanks to everyone that supported him and ICW, to end the debut on YouTube on a high note.
Elsewhere The Ruff Riders defeated Ungodly Justice who assaulted Jack Ripley and Gene Munny after the match until Natasha Swann ran out to put her body in harms way. Nick Justice put out the challenge for The Insane NORTH Weekender for a rematch. Wolfgang retained the ICW Zero G Championship against Austin Brookes, and Molly Spartan punched her ticket to the front of the line by pinning Natasha Swann to become number one contender for the ICW Women’s Championship.
