Preview: Discovery Wrestling ‘The Disco Derby’ (Adam)

Discovery Wrestling plan to kick off 2018 in style as they head to The Jam House in Edinburgh for the first annual Disco Derby. Not only do they have the 20-man over the top rope contest, but the event will also feature the Discovery debuts of Zack Sabre Jr., Chris Brookes, Omari and Little Miss Roxxy. Has there ever been a better way to kick off the new year?

The Disco Derby
Announced Entrants; Ravie Davie, DCT, Crusher Craib, Andy Wild, Damien Daniels, Aaron Echo, Solar, Dickie Divers, Kieran Kelly, Kuma, Shady Nattrass, Scotty Swift, Jackie Grady, Rob Mills, Jason Reed, Shawn Johnson, Soldato and Jonathan Richards

The highly-anticipated Disco Derby comes to The Jam House this Friday night. This is a 20-person contest, with all the entrants being either complete newcomers to Discovery Wrestling or have only made 1 or 2 appearances for the company. The rules for the match are as follows;

Two entrants will start. Every 90 seconds, another person enters the fray until all 20 have entered. Elimination occurs by being thrown over the top rope with both feet touching the floor. When we are down to the final two, a pinfall or submission will decide the winner.

Whoever wins this match will become a permanent member of the Discovery Wrestling roster. It’ll be interesting to see some of the collisions in this match. Damien Daniels squaring off with the likes of Kieran Kelly and Aaron Echo, powerhouses such as Crusher Craib, Andy Wild and Kuma, high flyers such as Soldato and Solar, Scotty Swift and Crusher Craib standing across the ring from one another with all the animosity between them. This is certainly a match to look out for.

Y Division Championship
Joe Coffey (c) vs Zack Sabre Jr.

Joe Coffey’s third defence of his Y Division Championship will take place at The Disco Derby as he defends against the best technical wrestler in the world today and Discovery debutant, Zack Sabre Jr. The Iron Man has had two tough opponents since winning the gold in the form of Matt Riddle and Matt Cross, but now he has to contend with someone like The Technical Wizard. Sabre has had a fantastic past 12 months, including joining Suzuki-gun over in Japan and wrestling at The Tokyo Dome for the first time in his career. The Englishman is no stranger to championship gold, currently holding the Defiant Internet Championship, the RevPro British Heavyweight Championship and the EVOLVE World Championship. Can he add the Y Division Championship to his list of accolades and become Zacky 4 Belts?

Discovery Women’s Championship
Little Miss Roxxy vs Sammii Jayne (c)

The Women’s Championship will be on the line this Friday as “The Queen of Catch” Sammii Jayne makes defence number two against Discovery debutant Little Miss Roxxy. After winning a tournament to be crowned the inaugural champion back at the start of November, Jayne successfully defended her newly won gold against Kay Lee Ray just last month and now finds herself standing across the ring from Little Miss Roxxy. These two had recent altercations at 3CW’s The Fight Before Christmas weekender, where Sammii and Charli Evans defeated Roxxy and Jetta, before Sammii then defeated Roxxy inside a Steel Cage the following night. Roxxy was also tombstoned by Aspen Faith. Despite Sammii and Aspen not being affiliated in Discovery (unless management want to book The Kingdom of Catch as a thing), Roxxy will surely still want to get some payback and walk away as the new Discovery Women’s Champion.

Chris Brookes & Omari w/Kid Lykos vs The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith & Lewis Girvan)

In a change to the biggest tag match in British wrestling history, Chris Brookes will now team with fellow Discovery debutant Omari to face The Kings of Catch. With Kid Lykos suffering an injury, it meant the long-awaited tag match between CCK and The Kings of Catch were have to be put on the back burner for the time being. Aspen Faith and Lewis Girvan had a pretty successful 2017 in Discovery Wrestling, with Aspen winning their Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational and Lewis reaching 666 days as the Y Division Champion before losing it to Joe Coffey. Chris Brookes, alongside Lykos, also had a great 2017 as they won Tag Team Championships everywhere they went. Then there’s Omari, one of the finest breakout stars of the last 12 months, competing for the likes of Fight Club: PRO, ATTACK! Pro Wrestling and Lucha Forever. Although it’s not the huge match that was originally planned, you can still expect this to be a great match.

BT Gunn vs Chris Ridgeway

Another big match set for Friday sees “The Oddity” BT Gunn facing off with one of the standout talents in the UK as “Smashmouth” Chris Ridgeway makes his return to Discovery Wrestling. Gunn had one hell of a 2017, winning titles all over the place. After becoming the first-ever ICW Triple Crown Champion and then the first-ever Undisputed ICW Champion, Gunn has been near unstoppable. Another man who’s been on a tear over the last 12 months is Chris Ridgeway. The hard-hitting star has done it all. Whether it was winning the FNW British Championship, invading Defiant Wrestling with the rest of the IPW roster or taking part in a WWE tryout, it’s been a noteworthy year for Ridgeway. Both men are known for their impactful strikes and it would come as no surprise if they both left with bruises all over their body.

Tickets to the event have now sold out. However, you can message the Discovery Wrestling Facebook to be put on a reserve list should anyone have to pull out and a ticket becomes available. In addition, you can also keep checking the Discovery Wrestling fans group on Facebook to see if anyone is selling their ticket.
